A Cheerful Misanthrope

That’s a nice setup. It makes such a difference to have your own stuff and not to have to deal with the ass-hattery of commercial gyms, though the latter makes for some great video and stories. Cooler still is getting a training partner to share the equipment with. I’m still looking, myself.

Then I had to lever 7’ of iron upright. All by myself.

It looks like my bench video didn’t post:
4x100

Deadlift today. The first couple of reps were easy but they got hard fast. In my head I’m thinking, “ass down, fuck the bar”. Also, strangely I was thinking of 'SteelyD. Is that bad?

This is my inaugural set of squats in my new rack. I call them barefoot beer squats.

This makes SteelyD grin from ear to ear.

I actually enjoy the commercial gym for the social aspect. I mostly keep to myself but it’s nice to chat with people. The home one is because I’m spending so much time training now.

After I had so much fun setting up the rack, I decided to try to make my first bumper plate. I couldn’t get 2" pipe and flange so I bought a drill attachment that cuts out a 2" diameter hole. I cut out a hole, drilled 4 holes to match the holes in the tire and bolted the wood to the tire. This is what it looks like. The extra pipe or wood is only there to stabilise the tire on the bar.

Trying again on the bench video.

So after I futzed around in the rack and built my bumper plate, I decided to squat a bit heavier.

This is what it looked like:
45x10
95x6
135x5
165x3
185x1
205x1
215x1 - PR
215x1
215x1
215x1
215x0

All the squats at 215 were high. Still, who else has gotten a squat PR in jeans, flip flops and a couple of brown pops down their neck.

Trying again on the barefoot squats

This is one of my reps at 215.

Trying once more with the bench

Looks great! And nice job with the 215. You make have to set that goal of squatting 225 raw at the end of this cycle just a bit higher!

The bumper plate looks really cool. What is the weight?

My only suggestion is you may want to stabilize that platform a bit more, you don’t want to be thinking about balancing on it when you are moving 90% plus attempts.

BTW, do you fix plumbing/drywall? I need some work done in our bathroom with a leaky shower.

I told you I’d get it done. I threw the platform in on the singles. I didn’t have it on the lighter sets but, like you, it was too high for a lower bar position. It still isn’t ideal.

If you want to come by tomorrow and get your plates and check it out, you’re more than welcome.

I think jeans count as support gear…

Seriously though, if you got 5 singles in you on a PR weight I’d bet that your actual max is prob at least 20 lbs higher.

I think the flip flops and beer add a good 10lbs anyway.

Sounds like a plan. Call me in the morning, assuming your able to… as it may depend on how many beers were victims of the celebration.

Great Job!! That’s a lota extra work without the flange and pipe but looks like you pulled it off. One more tire and you can start having fun

c.

Jebus, how did you squat in jeans. My jeans always feel like the thighs and ass are going to tear at any moment. If I tried squatting in them I’d be on the news.
