What do you mean by people sweetening their logs? Like posting naked pictures? Are you suggesting that’s what we should do?

You should get into powerlifting. I found once I had meets to train for and specific goals I wanted to reach for those meets, training became a lot more focused and fun.

It was one thing to get a PR in the gym. It’s another thing entirely to get it on the platform. I’m sure other powerlifters will agree that it is a freaking amazing high.

Yeah, leg prss, bleah. I will carry on with it for a while longer because no doubt it’s hitting stuff that hasn’t been in a while.

Yes Naked pics please.
I mean exaggeration there are plenty of logs in the training logs section that seem too amazing to be true, less so in over 35 and far less so here.

I try to avoid the competition thing- I am very competitive, but its hard to do so it is not easy to throttle down or train sensibly
I played Judo, and wrestled in college and post college, and was happy for a while to not be competing.

I love to train, squat, and deadlift, but detest the bench press-
so I would have to work on that.

Okay, I see what you’re saying about exaggeration. I’ve seen a few of those in all parts of this site. Someone will say they squat xx amount of weight yet can’t pull xx off the floor. My instinct is 1/4 squats or something like that. However, I’ve met enough heavy competitors with tyrannosaurus short arms to know that it is feasible. I still think bullshit but would never call anyone out on it.

I just mock them in my head. I believe you see it less here. You’re also less likely to see it with people that compete because all results are published so it’s hard to exaggerate that.

I’m not a big bencher either. I don’t mind doing it because I get less anxiety from it because I don’t expect much.

I just never had any use for it, its useless for the sports I did, so I never did it.
and then sucking at it made it sooooo easy.

I always feel its the the bench has the least reward, and most damage and takes the most time to recover from.

Im like low to mid threes squat, low 4’s dead
maybe 255 or 265 on a really good day.
blah blah blah

But I can see why people do it, and how powerful the draw is
to compete not bench press oops

I don’t fit in here. Benching is alright, but for some reason, I am a retarded deadlifter.

No. You can tell from her avatar it’s because she’s afraid to scrape her shins…or maybe it’s the heels.

lmao. I just got an awesome visual of PMPM with long legs wearing her heels and these little tiny t-rex arms that are basically just her forearms connected to her shoulders

I’m not joking. Don’t forget training with Pete who had a decent bench but his deadlift ended up somewhere just north of his package meaning it wasn’t his best lift.

Where do your arms end when you just let them fall straight?

My nephew and I were having this discussion. He and I have a similar build and he does well at jujitsu with his orangutan arms and long legs against much bigger guys. Until they get inside his reach, then they flatten him.

Saturday April 18, GL Burlington

Warm up elliptical 5 minutes
Stretching and mobility. I’m going to have to add some stretching for my pirformis because it hurts like a bitch today.

PMPM I’m still trying the one you told me about but it doesn’t feel like I’m stretching it out enough. I’ll google some other stuff. I may just be doing it wrong.

When I did my reverse lunges, it killed stepping back with my right leg because it was like a needle in my left ass cheek.

Reverse lunges off a step
30lb dbs
5 sets each leg
12, 12, 9, 9, 6

2 minutes between sets.

I chalked my hands because it gets to the point where the toughest part is just holding onto the bells. My forearms were cramping along with my quads. Now I have cool Popeye looking arms.

GHR superset with snatch grip deads

GHR done from the lat pull down
4x10

SGD
115x4x10

Again, the toughest part of this was grip. I worked on my hook grip which hurt like hell but did help. When I was done, a guy came over and asked if I trained somewhere else for the times when I whipped the weight over my head. He was watching me and thought I was an Olympic lifter because he’d seen my use the snatch grip. Really though, he just wanted to say snatch. I should have told him it was okay and we could say it together.

Seated wide grip low row super set with BB curl

SWGLR
3x12x60

BB curl
2x12x40
1x10x40

I have the same problem w/ grip when I do my split squats. I was stuck doing them at 45 lb dbs for the longest time becauseI couldn’t imagine going up in weight and being able to hold on. I just went up to 50 I just had too, it was getting stupid to stay where I was. I really don’t want to have to resort to chalk for 50lbs but I might have too, bleh.

I think he just wanted to see your snatch up close.

The other day leaving the gym the SF guys were doing KB snatches and I walked by and said nice snatch boys. They laughed…you had to be there.

Are there many women there or with all the men does it ever get to be like a prison movie?

Do you ever do anything with the KBs? I have one at home and used to train snatches for conditioning and they are a killer.

Not many women here and at the smaller bases when you talk to a woman she acts like you just raped her. I don’t really interact with any females as I’m sure that would change things. I’m basically in a cave all day long.

A prison movie? Well, I’ve never seen a man raped in the shower or anything.

I do have one girl who seems to be an admirer she is like 5ft tall, black, gold tooth, red dyed hair. She works mornings at the chow hall and gives me hugs but no interest from here, it is nice to have even a tiny bit of physical contact.

I do like KB’s I have two 56lbers and a 24lber. I like doing swings from time to time, clean and presses and turkish get-ups…can’t remember the name of the other one but you pop your hip out to one side, straight stiff legs, KB in the air, touch other hand to the ground…love that for stretching the hips out.

I’d like to see a video of this if you can find one. I’m all about stretching my hips lately.

Ouroboro, talk to Vader re: piriformis stuff. He’s been dealiing with piriformis and glute issues for a while and he might be able to give you some other stretches.

Do you think he’d be up for just coming this way and kneading my ass? I did a lot more stretching on it today at the gym. Between sets of everything I just laid down and stretched it out. It feel good right now but we’ll see what it’s like when I cool off a bit.

I think the lift Free2b is talking about but the name escapes me. I think its an abdominal builder. I do it from time to time with my kettlebell and I may have pulled it off T-Nation under some ab article. You can use a dumb bell too. Basically, you press it one handed over your head and lock it out. Holding it over your head, you bend in the opposite direction and touch your toe. The entire time you do it, have your face looking at the weight. I do sets of ten with a 30lb bell. It really hits your entire body.

Sooo any who…

Sunday April 19, GL Burlington

5 minutes elliptical
10 minutes stretching and mobility

Bulgarian split squats
30 lb DBs
12,12,9,9,6
2 minutes between sets

Cheerleader press super set with seated DB cleans

CLP
30x4x10

SDBC
25x4x10

60 seconds between exercises and 2 minutes between sets. Also, between sets I splayed out on the bench and stretched my pirimormis.

Dips, Skulls, Pushups superset

Dips
3x6

Skulls
30x3x12

Push ups
20,10,8

2 minutes between sets

At the end I tried an exercise I’ve wanted to do but have been gearing up for meets for so long, I haven’t had time. I saw a video months ago of C. (on the Staley site but also used to have a log here) do Zerchers off the floor. They looked super cool. I started trying with 135 but was so tapped out from my workout that I couldn’t get the mechanics right. Court managed to get it up then couldn’t get it down because it was wrapped in her suit. No doubt all the guys had an eye full of lesbionic weirdness as the two of us humped each other trying to get the bar untangled.

I fucked around with 115 and was finally able to get it balanced on my knees and my arms hooked underneath. That’s the video Court has and I’m not sure I want to see it.

I did two sets of five or six with 115lbs.

For those who have lead a super sheltered life, Zercher squats are squatting with the bar in front of you with it cradled in your elbows. Not like a front squat but held down in front of you rather than up at your neck. Doing it off the floor requires you to pull it, balance it on your knees and somehow McGyver your arms under it so it rests in the crook of your elbow. My forearms look like hamburger right now.

Okay, this is shameless self promotion and rhetorical question time. I posted this picture from yesterday because I love how my hair looks. I have had a life long battle with bad hair days. In the past week, it’s been looking great because … I made an appointment to get it cut. Since I last got it done, I’ve been struggling with some kind of fucked up mullet look that my hair stylist seemed powerless to correct.

Court, before you say anything, I realise this is the shirt I wore to the gym today. Sometimes I just can’t be bothered.

I almost forget the best thing. I went grocery shopping after the gym today and chicken was on sale. I got 13 good sized boneless, skinless chicken breasts for $28. They had a limit or I would have filled my cart.

LOL! I remember c. and Phil doing the zerchers from the floor. I would fall on my ass.

Your hair looks good

C. made it look so easy. If you talk to her, tell her she was my inspiration for them. I’ll see if I can go heavier than 115
