I’m still working on speed, power and volume so all sets of all lifts had less than 60 seconds between them. This may not sound fast to most people but I’ve been kind of slow for the last year or so allowing plenty of recovery time between sets. This cycle is totally bagging me. I think every part of my body hurts right now.
On the bright side, I got my new THP knee wraps in the mail yesterday and took my pants off as soon as I got in the door and tried them out. They are stiff as hell and I’m pretty stoked to try them out but that won’t be for over a week.

Glad to hear it. It should definitely help with your squat speed because you’re probably one of the slowest squatters in the world
It’s also making you work hard which those guys say we never did at the barn (and well, they do have a point). I’m glad Hoi is kicking your ass. I still need to give him back his knee wrap thingy…
I’m doing 4 weeks of Sheiko, then going to evaluate at that point what I’m going to do for the next 5-6 weeks. Now that I’m feeling more energetic and strong I may stay on it a bit longer…

I’m sure you can appreciate how much pain I’m in right now since it’s probably similar to the pain you’re in. Hoi say’s I’ll get used to it. The fact is that I love it. It is the volume and intensity I’ve done on my assistance work when I train alone and it feels good to be doing it on the big lifts again.
This type of pace feels more natural to me and I never felt right going to a lower volume. It did work for me but this feels better and more suited to my temperament.
A friend sent me a copy of the ‘Purposeful Primitive’ for my birthday and in it are bios on a cross section of top level lifters including some old school ones. Their training methods run the entire spectrum of crazy high volume to a few heavy singles. The trick is experimenting to see what works best for each of us.
I’m sure you’re home after a refreshing morning of beating the ever lovin’ shit out of some poor, unsuspecting patron at Tim Horton’s. That’ll teach the MotherFucker from reaching for the coffee stirrer that you wanted! Did you bring the girls along this time to show them how it’s done?
Anyway, I hope you got some good GPP out of this morning’s festivities. No doubt a man or two in the joint felt a stirring in his loins as the lioness asserted her dominance once again. Won’t be long before the RCMP has Tim Horton’s right up there with some of your seedier strip clubs as a “place to avoid.”

Actually, I spent the morning at the gym doing one of the crappier workouts I’ve done recently. Immediately afterwards, I stopped at a friends for a few minutes to cry about my crappy workout and get a 30 second backrub and made a concerted effort to schmooze my way into his hot tub.
Then I took the girls out for waffles for lunch. That was very nice. I had bacon, eggs and homefries. I think I got my salt and fat quota.
I like when you talk about loins stirring. It gives me a funny tingling feeling.
This was the weakest workout I’ve had in a while. I’m hoping its attributable to pms. Even the bar felt heavy.
Bench
45x10
65x5
95x5x5
These were supposed to be fast and explosive. They were slow and hard.
CG bench
90x3
I barely got the third rep off my chest and some old fellow was ready to save me.
85x4x5
Squat
45x10
95x5
135x3
145x4x5
145x4
Again, quite a few of these were a grind and I couldn’t get the last rep on my last set. I had to dump the bar. Only a few were fast. I felt light headed and my vision started going dark during a couple of the sets.
Good mornings
45x10
95x5
135x5
145x5
155x3
165x3
175x4
175x4
BB rows
95x12
95x10
95x7
I had planned to do push press but figured the state I was in, I’d better not be putting any weight over my head. I’d either kill someone or wreck my back.

Tres` smart. 3/4 of the battle is knowing when to retreat so you can fight again another day.
You probably had an active morning of fighting in Tim Horton’s. No matter how soundly you beat up on “the other gal,” the adrenaline rush would’ve affected your workout. It makes sense to me that you were a bit fatigued.
Oh, were you asked to “find the mushroom” in the hot tub? :-0
Pictures are up of the Niagara meet. There are quite of few of you and Court and a few of Diana. There’s one squat photo of me that makes me look like a midget! I know I have short legs, but jeez, not that short!

Good call on the pics! I look constipated in most of the pics. If I don’t look constipated I look evil and possessed. Sometimes both.
Ouro looks quite disinterested in everything she’s doing. Just very relaxed and “meh”. It makes me laugh.
I won’t comment on the constipated look, but I was sure impressed with your ability to lift sideways!
And Ouro wasn’t disinterested, she was just checking out the lighting to make sure the photos would come out alright.[/quote]
As a group, we all look pretty fugly in the squat pictures. I think if I’d be able to recognize squat face even if all I could see was someones face. Eyes are up to the ceiling, cheeks are puffed out, face is red and lips are curled in a variety of strange ways.
I too was impressed with Court’s sideways squatting ability. That must be why she got accepted into school in Cali. She’s got crazy skillz.
I did think you looked like a dwarf in your picture but I thought you were a dwarf so imagine my surprise to find out you’re not.
Today’s workout was somewhat better than Saturday. I believe it was from seeing the pictures posted on the Niagara website. Truthfully, who doesn’t get fired up over pictures in which you look like you shit yourself.
Bench
45x10
65x5
95x6x5
I even threw in an extra set.
db bench
40x8
35x8
35x8
DL
135x5
155x3
195x5x5
When I started my second set, I did one rep. It felt like a total grind. I kept walking around the bar to make sure I only had 195 on. I must have been set up poorly. The rest were hard to do somewhat fast but not like that one, lonely retarded rep.
I’m in a much better humour today for a variety of reasons. Chief among them is a conversation I had yesterday evening with the new head of the OPA.
He had called to confirm receipt of my paperwork for nationals. We had a chat about the Niagara Open. He stated that if he were coaching me, I would be the one with the Provincial records, not Maureen. I suppose there is a fair degree of strategy in getting a record based on what everyone else is lifting. She based her final attempts off what mine were and just made sure they were marginally higher. She had a coach there to do that thinking for her.
We also chatted about nationals and he stated very matter-of-factly that I would be qualifying for worlds this year. That’s the sort of thing I need to hear from people who know what they are talking about.
This morning I spoke with the fellow that is advising me on my training. We talked for a bit about what I’m doing and gave his advice for the three weeks prior to the meet when I go heavy again.
He also, was very matter of fact about making worlds this year. We talked about my target total for nationals. He was in agreement that if I do compete at worlds, I should not do any meets between Moosejaw and worlds giving me six months to prepare.
I said that not only do I want to qualify now, I could reasonably hope to medal given the totals at the last few years for my weight class. It’s by no means a walk and I would have a shit ton of work to do but it’s achievable.
He also said I may want to consider going up a weight class. He told me he saw the attached picture and I’m too tall to compete at 56kg for long. I look like a giraffe next to the other two women.
When I went into the change room, there was a woman standing on the carpet by the lockers in front of the mirrors shaving her pits. FFS, is your boyfriend on the other side blow drying his balls?
I was waiting for the rack to do the pulls and there were a couple of squat rack curlers. I asked if they had much to do and they said 8 more sets. I suggested they do them elsewhere. Turns out they were finished anyway and were just being funny. They were curling the bar with 5’s on it. Tards.
I ran into a trainer that worked at the first gym I went to when I started this whole weight thing. I never cared for him. Vince always seemed more interested in his hair. I mentioned Andrew (from barn training) because we both know him. I laughed and said “Yeah Andrew says you never train legs.” Vince said he didn’t 'cause his legs get too swole and his pants don’t fit. He was serious too. The funny thing is, the kid we were talking about is 5’5", 220lbs and has legs like my waist and never seems to have problems wearing pants.

I’ll have you know I am well over 4ft. And please, in the future I prefer the term “vertically challenged”!

Well, it’s the truth. You’ve heard it from two guys who know what the heck they’re talkin’ about. Now, it’s finally starting to seep into that rock-hard noggin of yours, albeit drop by drop and slowly!! Once you realize what most everybody else does you are gonna really light up the board.
