Ahhhh, and people say “women’s lib” was for naught! What a fresh, wholesome, and appealing outlook you have on life!
And to think I was beginning to think you trolled soccer games just for a chance to beat up another mom or two!

I hope you aren’t making fun of me.
You know, my outlook may not be entirely wholesome at times but at least it’s unique (ish).
Kick your ass? The size of you i doubt you’d notice if I were hanging off your back.
I hope you aren’t making fun of me.

Never. It’d be like a manatee making fun of a wolverine. Not the smartest thing to do. Besides, you don’t pick at people you don’t like!!!
Trust me, I find that particular outlook to be quite wholesome!!

No, but I’d notice if you were hanging off somethin’ else!!

Don’t toy with me Mr. Sissippi. I bet I can find you I will pre-warn you, I have manly calloused hands that have phenomenal grip strength.[/quote]
Better put some lotion on those callouses, then . . . And wear a rain hat!!

I needed a rain hat for sure today. I had plumbing issues first thing this morning. I don’t mean the kind sorted out by a urologist either. My younger daughter had a sleep over and this morning the girls were going out to play. Her friend said there was a bit of water coming from under the garage door. When I went into the garage, there was high velocity water spraying from the pipe feeding the front exterior fawcet all over the inside of the garage.
The shut of valve is in the tenants place who wasn’t home. I went into his place sporting my pink monkey pyjamas and soaking wet socks. I pulled a bunch of crap out of the crawl space and climbed to the back to the shut of valve. It’s all good at the moment but more cash will go to the plumber.
The good news is that I made it to my hair appointment on time and got a new hair do. I had a new hairdresser who was very nice but talked way too much. I guess holding a magazine to your nose doesn’t always mean I’m not chatty today.
In the afternoon we made a couple of dozen heart shaped chocolate cupcakes with icing and little sugar heart stencils on them for a school valentine party. They look nice. They almost look like they could have been produced by a sweet mom as opposed to the angry, wet sock, monkey pyjama wearing mom.
Even after all those shenanigans, I’d still get out the lotion for ya…
I’m trying a different program as recommended by one of the guys that trains at the Niagara club who is also competing at nationals. I have wanted more volume and he has definately supplied it.
The next two weeks will be 5x5 speed reps with no gear other than a belt. There should be no more than 60 seconds between sets. The following two weeks are 5x3 speed with gear. The three weeks pre meet will be heavy. I don’t have the template for that yet.
I’m doing Bench/DL & Bench/Squat alternating every two days. I’ll add in whatever assistance stuff at the end.
Today was bench/dl and right now my ass is officially kicked in a good way. The increased volume is what I’ve been after but I don’t have the experience to play around while gearing up for a meet.
When I emailed to see if it was too late to change, this was his response:
“It is not too late to change your methods. Especially when they are so bad. The thing about the progressive overload system is that you tire yourself out at the high rep sets and then lose speed at the single at the end. Throw that shit away because it isn’t enough volume.”
I would prefer if he were a bit more clear about his feelings but you work with what you get
Bench
45x10
65x5
95x5x5
105x2
110x1
DB Bench
40x8
40x6
35x8
DL
135x5
155x3
195x5x5
205x2
215x1
Rack Pulls
225x2
225x4
245x3
265x2
Push Press
95x5
95x5
95x4
95x3
95x3
BB curls
50x18
50x12
50x8
Next time I’ll grab the 60. I really only made it to 18 on the first set because I got bored.
At the end, I futzed around with a dumbell exercise I’d read about. It’s like a push press holding them in front of you with a hammer grip so the ends of the dumbells start against your chest. It’s a way to train log press for strongman. I sucked at that event. It’s much harder than a standard push press because the load is farther in front and uses more tricep. I think that dumbell press mimics the motion to a degree.
Real good work. Really good. PLEASE don’t get too bogged down worrying about a template. It’s good to have a plan but there’s a TON of truth in the saying that “an okay plan executed right now beats a perfect plan executed next month.” IMVHO, the important thing is that you are getting a “steady diet of lots of iron.”
Looks good Jules. Did it feel speedy?
Nice job on the push press. I started with C&J’s yesterday, went into technical cleans and then push press. 5x5@75 was tough. It’s been a while since I did those.
Hey, are you willing to chip in for a car rental in Regina? There are a few of us planning on getting one and there is talk of running back and forth to the airport (45 minutes away) to pick up those who want to contribute to the costs. I’m going to e-mail Janet for some more info, but let me know if this interests you.

Thanks for the compliment on the push press. I can usually do more but it was the tail end of an ass kicking workout. I really prefer them over military press.
I’d absolutely like to chip in on a rental. That’s a great idea and will give us a lot more freedom.

I understand what you’re saying and I agree with you. For some reason, I’ve lost my sense of direction on this one and I’m over thinking it.
My problem is that I know what I’m capable of doing and I think I’m psyching myself out. The truth is, I believe I can hit my goal attempts right now (with the possible exception of bench). I’m just spazzing that somehow I’m going to lose that ability.

This morning when I was helping my younger daughter get ready for school, I noticed something red on her face. It turns out, my older daughter had drawn a red mustache on her face and written ‘loser’ up her arm while she was sleeping using a felt tip pen.
It took a while to scrub off. I have to think of what to say to the older one and see if I can do it without laughing. It isn’t funny but that is absolutely something I would have done to my little brother. No wonder he still flinches when I move fast.

You move fast?
It’s been my experience that eye makeup remover is excellent for taking care of unwanted moustaches, drawings, etc.

Thanks for the tip. You sound like you have experience with this.
I do move fast from time to time. You know what it’s like when you’re kids. You punch your brother hard and fast and keep going. Now that he’s 6’2" 210lbs I don’t. It makes me laugh that he still expects me to though.
I am totally trashed after tonights workout. I really focused on speed an power. I started with squat rather than bench because the gym was crazy busy.
I found it tough to squat fast. I’ve always been a bit slow out of the hole so this is an excellent exercise for me. I didn’t pause at the top of each squat. I hit the top and then dropped immediately back in the hole and attempted to explode out of the bottom. I ended up adding a 6th set that was far from speedy. I rested 60 seconds between sets. It was freaking tough but I loved it.

I did speed squats on friday with very little weight and it totally fried my legs so I completely know what you mean.
