Never mind dead lifts. If I’m not getting any activity in my house, no one is.

I worked on my shirt again tonight. First we tried 135, then 165 twice and finally 175. It’s almost touching but this was the hardest one so far. The first time we did it, it hurt so much I saw stars. The second time, I could feel my lunch in my throat. I’m still not pushing them up. I’m just trying to stretch it enough to touch. On Wednesday, I’ll try board presses again with two boards this time and lighten the weight to a manageable load. I have marks on my chest and a faint red line across my throat where the shirt started to ride up a bit. On the 175, the bar slid off the bubble onto my ribs. Fortunately, my spotters got it immediately.

Both Court and Jesse helped my with the shirt. I used plastic bags and an immense ammount of powder that’s still in my lungs. I think Court and I are dating now what with some of the stuff she did to help me out. However, she made me laugh so hard at one point I got in trouble and almost had to stand in the corner.

Squat
45x10
95x5
135x5 (suit on straps down)
160x5 (suit on straps up)
170x3 "
180x1 "

Because of the carry on with the shirt, I was the last on to finish squat. I was too lazy to unwrap between my 170 and 180 set. I’ll never do that again. My feet are still blue.

Yeah, you definitely almost got a timeout. It was funniest because I also laughed my ass off, but because I was squatting when it came time for you to be scolded, I just smirked to myself as I got under the bar.

Oh and I’m not dating you, but you definitely put out tonight!

So how do you put on the shirt? Here’s what I do, for a size 40 (with around a 42 inch bust measurement):

bags on arms, coach pushes left arm 3/4 way up, then right arm 3/4 way up

I raise both arms overhead, and hold onto a smith machine bar or similar immovable object, and let coach/hubby/whomever pull the sleeves down and the waist down

Coach/hubby pulls the shirt over my head (take off your glasses before this!)

Coach/hubby holds onto shoulders/back while I attempt to “freestyle” stroke the shoulders farther onto the body and into the pits

Pull out bags

place belt around waist, get ready to belt it (I have a 1.5" leather fashion belt with grommets every inch)

Pull front of shirt down using coach, hubby, or smith machine, belt tightly.

Bench and still die trying.

Bench shirts are WAY harder than squat and DL suits!!!

Hi Julie, thought I’d just stop in to say your training looks great, although painful. I got my suit this week, but I have not had time yet to try and get it past my butt. I think it’s too small, but I’ll give it another go tomorrow.
When you are doing the bottom up squats, do you rack at the top or bring the bar back down to the pins? I have to incorporate some of these into my training.

I wish I had the time to train with my PL club, but with 2 jobs and PT clients on my off time, I’m lucky to get in 3 good days of training at my work gym. My PL club is an hour drive away. I miss those guys!

That pretty much sounds exactly like what we did last night. The only difference was the addition of an avalance of powder on my shoulders and armpits and we don’t have a smith machine. I even have to do the glasses thing too. I did the swimming thing with anyone that I could talk into holding the shirt. I don’t have a fashion belt though, just my regular one.

Mine is a size 34 with a 34" chest. I’m really an eight year old boy

How long did it take you to really get going with it from brand new. Niagara is in 5 1/2 weeks and I’m wondering if I’m going to have to do it raw. I’m going to work on the shirt every workout but feel far from ready for anything.

What size suit did you get? When mine was brand new I was in despair of ever getting it past my ass. The first few times it was a lot of work but after that it gets easier. Not easy but easier. Now mine feels too loose. If I were you, I’d keep hammering away at it.

When we do the bottom start squats we start at the bottom so the first one is pretty hard just breaking the inertia of the bar. It’s a bit of a different position to squatting so it’s more legs and less back. I think I’ve been seeing an impact on my DL and squat already.

I’ve never used a brand new shirt. I have been borrowing the coach’s shirts (he has dozens), and will probably not get my own until after February.

You gals freakin’ ROCK!

Does this apply even if we are old and bitter? haha

Thanks very much for the compliment.

I got the 29. Last night I got the thing on, but man was it tough and it hurt like hell. I used nylons underneath to help it slide a bit. Quite an attractive look, my legs are bitten up pretty bad now. I’ll keep working at it before I take it to the gym.

For me that was the hardest part. I put it on and took it off a few times and just did body weight squats. It will hurt like hell for sure.

The first time I tried I did it with honest to god stockings. It isn’t like I was wearing them for anyone else. The legs were so tight, I couldn’t pull the stockings off. If I had put on high heels, it would have been one super sexy look.

Thursday December 18 Gym

Good mornings:
45x10
95x8
110x8
130x8
135x8

I meant to do 120 and 125 but my arithmetic skills suck.

Squats (superset with good mornings)
45x10
95x5
110x5
130x5
135x5

Lock outs
95x5
115x5
125x3
125x3
125x3

It took for freaking ever to get this set up in the squat rack. I piled plates and set the aerobic step on top of them so the distance from the bottom of the bar the the ‘bench’ was 14.5". Yes, I did have my tape measure with me. Anal retention has its’ advantages.

Power cleans
95x3x5
100x4
105x3
110x1
115x1
120x1

Tricep pushdowns
40x3x10

Barbell rows
95x13
95x13
100x10
105x8
105x6

This was the point at which I tore off the top half of the callous I did a week ago. I washed my blood off the bar though.

I used hillbilly stocking (nylons cut apart) thinking I would be able to pull them out of the suit, wrong. I’m ordering some suit slippers tonight, fuck if I’m going through that fresh hell every time I want to use that thing. I have to get it on a and use it at a commercial gym.
Niagara is coming up fast! I’m shooting for Class II, but it will be a long shot. What are you aiming for?

I’m laughing that you have to use it in a commercial gym for the first time. Do you have anyone to go with you? At least with someone else they could help you out.

My goals are to end world hunger. However, I’ll settle for signigicantly closing the gap to Class I. I got II in Ottawa and need 66lbs (30kg) for Class I. I’m aiming for a 225 squat, 275 DL. Bench is still tbc since I don’t know whether I’ll be able to use the shirt and how much it will do for me.

Nope, I just have me. It’s OK, I have always been pretty much to myself, I’ll deal but I’m gonna get some funny looks for sure. If I get stuck, I’ll get my boss to help me out and I’ll never hear the end of it.

Ending world hunger, wow, I’m so not that deep!
I’m thinking 230 squat, 260 DL and 115 bench. I got 120 tonight and the 115 with pause have been working. The squat and DL is and estimate, I’m confident on the 260 pull but who knows about the squat with this suit.

I haven’t tried a max squat since my last meet, and 200 was cake. As long as I do better than last time I’ll be happy.

30kg is not that much, hopefully you’ll get the shirt worked out. Between yours and Clare’s horror stories, I don’t think I ever want to use a bench shirt. I’m a big wuss at heart.

This morning I visited with a fellow T-Nation PL in Toronto who specialises in multi-ply bench. I took my loser shirt with me. He helped me get in on and took a look at how tight it was and what it was likely to take to get it to touch my chest.

The result is that I need much larger boobs.

He figures I can use it but not by the Niagara meet. The weight I need to touch my chest far exceeds my abilities at the moment. He very kindly offered the loan of some extras he had in his ‘museum’. I tried a Titan 42 but it was way too big. I’m exchanging mine for a size 38 so I can at least get used to a shirt and get something out of it.

If I don’t get it soonish, I’ll bench raw in Niagara. It won’t be the end of the world.

One thing that keeps pleasantly surprising me is how helpful and friendly people in this community are. He even patiently listened to me chatter way for quite a bit.

Saturday December 20, Toronto

85x5
90x4

85x5 pause on last rep
75x10 pause on last rep

Squat
45x10

185x1 "

I completely forgot to do heavy walk outs. Just as well. I feel sick and my back is still rough from shovelling snow.

DL
135x5
175x3x5
215x1

Box pulls (Like rack pulls but from wooden boxes below knee height. It is easier doing off wooden boxes than metal safety bars. Because of the difference in composition, the bar isn’t quite as dead as pulling off metal. Weird eh?)

215x5
235x5
245x4
The last set wasn’t heavy but on rep four I wasn’t set right and something went in my lower back on the left side. Probably from all the freaking snow shovelling. I don’t think it’s serious but I do feel it.

I"m going to rest between now and Wednesday.

On another note, I’m exchanging my shirt for a 36, not a 38. I had a bit of a confab with Louis and he said the 38 won’t do anything for me. At the same time I ordered a Centurion squat suit size 36. I don’t know if I’ll use that in Niagara. It depends on how easy it is to use.

I find I now wear hand-me-downs for my normal clothes and spend all my money on new equipment.

Don’t feel bad about that. I played organized hockey for 15 years on hand-me-downs. I actually prefer them now
