Wow. Sounds like I missed quite the adventure tonight. I probably would have been in hysterics watching that go on. I was on my way from LAX to Irvine driving a very pretty red car while you were being bruised. I’m entertained that 135 wouldn’t even let you hit your chest. That’s insane!
I got my cardio in today running through the Calgary airport trying to make my connecting flight to LA after we were 2 hours late leaving Toronto. I think they were about to call in the army to help de-ice the planes. Bastards.
Anyways, best of luck with the shirt again Sunday. I imagine it’ll be a little more tender then since you’ll still be bruised and battered. I’ll be there to support (and by support I mean giggle) next Wednesday. Hope you guys didn’t miss me too much.

So I tried out my new bench shirt. It’s going to take a fair amount of effort to break it in. Pete and the boy helped me put it on. In some countries they’d have to marry me now. I hung on for dear life while Pete hammered away at me and the shirt and the boy got the belt on. First I tried push ups but I couldn’t get anywhere near the floor. We loaded the bar with 135 and I just tried to pull it down to my chest. I tried three times and it got closer each time but it hurt like fuck. I’ll have a go again on Sunday and see if I can get it to touch.
Claire, it you have any suggestions for breaking in, I’d love to hear them but I suspect it’s time and work.

Do you have any boards? I always put my shirt on and then do 3 boards, 2 boards and then full range. Slowly getting the shirt seated. You can do triple with boards. That way you can use weight that is easier to handle.
You should add lockout work to your training. It sounds like it takes more than 135lbs to touch right now. Let’s say you need 145lbs to touch. You need to be able to lock out that much weight. Reverse bands, rack lockouts, 4 board presses.

Thanks Claire. That’s exactly what I need to know. 135 was too heavy for me. Well I don’t actually know if it was too heavy because I was trying to hard to pull it to my chest that I couldn’t reverse the motion to press. I’m not sure if that makes any sense. It’s almost like I lost the proper tension at the bottom. Right now it’s so tight I can’t arch properly or set my shoulders. I’m hoping that changes as I work it in.
I know that in some shirts, I have a much more difficult time arching. I prefer the F6 to the Fury because the back panel lets me arch better, although the sleeves are tighter. I also have to concentrate on pulling the shoulderblades in more, inside the shirt. Not sure if that makes sense.
Make sure you bring the bar low on your sternum and tuck your elbows in. Finding the groove in a shirt is really tough for me, and if I am not careful I let the bar pop up towards my face, which always results in a failed attempt.
I do this in my family room that has a 7’ ceiling. I wasn’t paying attention and on the first set the bar hit my ceiling light and I had a shower of broken glass. I finished the set and swept an vacuumed between sets.

Yay. I got 50 with 60 seconds between sets. I also started sorting laundry between sets.
In addition, as I was doing one set, my 8 year old daughter told me about their new unit in school; Illegal vs. legal drugs. Apparently they learned about huffing model glue.

I was going to write this yesterday but then I realized Bartl’s computer was signed in as himself and it may appear rude coming from him…but now that I’ve officially signed in myself:

I got my shirt on again and tried to break it in a bit more. I used the 102.5 from my single and did a few sets with three boards just to get it to touch. It hurt like a bitch again and tore up my arm pits. On the bright side, I felt a lot more control and was able to arch and retract my shoulders. I didn’t pull it down as far though and didn’t belt it.
Bill’s son Jesse is visiting from out west and helped me put it on with plastic bags and said on Wednesday, he will spend some time working with me to break it in a bit more.
Tomorrow night I’m going to work on lockouts from the floor out of cinderblocks at home.

You are a bigger retard. Maybe you should try some throat lotion for your voice issue.
btw, I would say today I discovered my inner bitch but for the fact that the bitch has never been terribly well hidden.
My new tenant moved in December 1 and everything went smoothly. I asked if he was a smoker and I’m sure he said he wasn’t. I don’t care if he is, I just don’t want anyone smoking in my apartment. You have to go outside just like I did when I smoked. I’ve come home a few times and I could swear I smell smoke.
I saw him in the backyard today smoking and went out to reiterate that there is no smoking in the house. At the same time, I’ve heard a woman’s voice pretty much since he’s moved in. She was outside with him.
I asked if she was living there with him. She said she was staying there a bit. I asked again, “Are you living here?”. They said no but she was wanting to move in. I said absolutely not. It is a one person apartment and his name is the only one on the lease. There was no waffling at all. I pay all the utilities and his love interest is costing me money.
Get the fuck out before I really lose my patience.
So I thought I would try some floor press lockouts tonight just to see where I’m at.
110x1x5
120x1x5
130x1x4
135x1x1
I’m not sure the best height from your chest for trying lockouts but doing from cinderblocks off the floor, my elbows were about an inch from the floor at the bottom of the press.
I’ll do these in the squat rack at my gym and Bill’s rack at our club where there is a bit of flexibility to adjust height.
I hate dealing with tenants. We had to evict one at the beginning of the month. She lied about income and couldn’t afford the rent. What a pain in the butt to have to look for another tenant.
For lockout work, use 4 or 5 boards ROM. It sounds like you have a good range with the floor press on the blocks. I prefer to work lockouts on a bench because I can setup exactly like my bench. So it has a better carry over. I either do pin press in a rack or board work.
You can try to stretching out the arms on your shirt by sticking something in the sleeves. Once the sleeves are a little looser it will be less painful.

I’d prefer to do lockouts in a rack but at home I work with what I have… the floor and cinderblocks. I can do the others at the gym. This will just be a variation for me. Hopefully the blocks don’t topple over and smash my face in.
I was thinking about what I could use to stretch the sleeves. I have a kettlebell but it may be too big. What do you use to stretch them? That’ll be my project tonight

This sums up my current feelings about my tenant.
I really hope I don’t have to evict him. He paid plenty up front so that doesn’t seem like an issue. If the woman continues to stay, I will simply tell him what his new rent is based on two people. The apartment is in my house so I have a fairly good idea about what is going on.
I just found that to be very sneaky. I think he had every intention of moving her in and not saying anything. I had several couple look at the apartment and I turned them down because it really isn’t big enough.

Just up the rent and see how it goes. I barely ever deal with tenants but something always seems to go wrong when my husband is on travel.
And yes they can be sneaky. We try to take our time and screen for the best tenant but sometimes we screw up.

I custom ordered my shirts with bigger sleeves. Maybe a small football or large bottle of wine. Just stuff something in there and leave it overnight.
It sounds like training at home is dangerous
I am hoping to make it to the gym this week. The area I live in was hit with an ice storm and there is no electricity. We haven’t had power since last Thursday night. What a pain. Thank God for generators.

Not setting their deadlifts down gently??
