Hey Jules, I’m still reading, just hard to keep up with everything else going on.
If you need to cut a couple kg, it’ll be easy for ya, just up the water like you mentioned. You know I do 2 gallons a day from 4 weeks out and I never missed a weigh in yet. Now if you need to cut for Ottawa that means that I can eat in front of you for a change. I think I’ll make you walk a few km trying to find a Tim Horton’s too.
How do you like benching with bands? I’ve thought about giving it a try but I can’t get the idea out of my head that it will just end up going horribly wrong.

Hey, did you or did you not make weight rather easily? Have you sent your registration in yet? I just sent mine on Tuesday.
I don’t think I can cut a couple of kilos just with water alone. I’m monitoring everything that goes in my mouth right now. If there is something I can dial back on now that will translate into a few lbs over 8 weeks I’ll do that and make it as painless as possible.

I love it. It’s reverse band so the band is actually supporting the weight at the bottom of the lift. It’s meant to mimic benching with a shirt. It gives you pop off the chest and works the lockout.
Also, now that I have all my own stuff, I bench in my rack with pins set so that I can touch my chest when I’m arched but if I don’t make the lift, I collapse my arch and slide out from under. Plus I wear my hard hat.

Just be sure to have the camera recording as you set it up and do the lift. At least we can enjoy your pain!
Seriously, give them a try. One tip for setting them up is to load a plate on each side of the bar first, this will prevent the bar moving while you but the bands on and adjust them if needed.

I forgot about this. RL actually came over to my house to show me how to do this. Guaranteed I would have smashed my teeth in setting it up.

I’d hit it.
There’s hope. In one of the first ever ‘strong man’ events, Jesus took first in the ‘Cross Carry’. That’s like 345kg at, what, 155 lbs?
He bulked for awhile, then cut for 40 days, then had that one famous “Last Carb-Load”.[/quote]
LOL! Steely… you are damn funny. I wanna party with you dude… There is a minister/ priest that works out occasionally in my gym, I’m gonna teel him this.
Steely… take cover during thunderstorms brother and wear rubber soled shoes!!

My back started bothering me. It actually started a couple of days ago but has gotten worse. I’m going to make an appointment to see my chiro. I feel it when I’m squatting in the middle of my back on the right hand side. The pain intensifies when I push my elbows forward. Clearly there is some weakness that Dr. Handy hands will be able to sort out lickety split. By the end of squatting it hurt to breathe deeply. It feels fine now but I know it will flare up again the minute I have weight on my back.

I had/have a similar issue. My RMT says it’s my infraspinatus. She asked me if did shrugs, which I typically don’t, so she suggested it’s from all the deadlifting, which makes sense to me since I don’t have any issue when I cut out the DL’ing. I don’t if it’s the same thing, but it feels like I’m being stabbed in the back.
She recommended the broom stick stretch before squatting, etc. I told her I wasn’t into that kinda ‘stuff’ but she clarified things for me.

I’m there, Bunnydude. You drink Sleeman’s? I have a good friend from near Ottawa that used to bring cases of that stuff down here.
Gets the job done, eh?

Friday May 22, Garage
I was tired as hell today and my back was still bothering me quite a bit. In order to gear up for this evening’s workout, I had my teeth scaled. I haven’t cared too much for my dentist since he gave me a lecture about divorce and giving up too easily on marriage.
Armed with my dental pissiness I dove right into the following:
Warm up mobility including broomstick stretches suggested by Ddot. (I’d already tried these at work. I found a discarded broomstick in our warehouse and fucked around with it in my office in the afternoon)
A Squat - I put one of the resistance bands at the bottom of the rack for my ass to touch to hit depth. I think this worked well. I sat back more onto the band.
10x45
5x5x135
3x165
(1x5) x5 x 195 - In theory
Reality:
5x1x195
2x1x195 - got stuck in the hole on rep three
2x1x195 - One my second rep I didn’t rerack properly and on rep three, I managed to pull the left side off the hook and bend one pin. Video to follow.
5x1x195
5x1x195
5x1x195
B1 Flat bench = all reps paused at chest
1x45
5x65
5x5x85
B2
Pull ups
5x5
C1 DB Bench
2x6x35
C2 Head supported DB row
2x6x35
D Zottman curls in the rack
2x10x15
There was supposed to be a D2 of cable back hands. I have no cable so between the two sets I played around with broomstick snatches.
All in all for a dodgy start, things went well.
Tis is one of the sets of 5 that I managed to complete. I think I’ll keep using the band. It worked well for me.

Squats looked good. A bit of fidgeting while setting up, but that’s likely a result of the nature of the quick rep/rack/unrack… process.
What height is the band?
Elbows!
Yay! The shorts are back!
ahem- nice squats too!

Awwww, you can have beers, too!!
re: Squatting. Great squatting!!! What % of your max is 195?
The band idea-- that’s good! I gotta try that.

I have the band at about 12" or so. Honestly, by rep 5, it felt like it was on the floor.
The fidgeting was more getting back far enough to get my ass on the band.

I figured they wouldn’t be too dangerous in the home gym.

I can have some beer too? Cool. Wanna come over here and I’ll give you a beer ![]()
195 is 90% of the max I hit last weekend of 215. I don’t think I should be struggling that much on those but boy did it tap me out.
I tried to post this last night but my computer was slow and I started to fall asleep. This is my spastic rerack video. Enjoy. I put this up there with Pmpm’s falling on her ass video except I was alone ![]()
