A Breath and a Scream

Very crafty indeed! Love the new avi, have you tried fat gripz?

I haven’t tried them, I was looking at them, and Tyler grips. Any knowledge re: the difference between the two?

Saturday I went to the RMLC, where I played with stones, farmer handles, and their huge 3" bar.

I did the small stone - probably around 115, which is the opener stone. The other two stones were significantly bigger, and I couldn’t even wrap my t-rex arms around it. So I practiced getting into position and everything with the small one. I lifted it up, and knowing I will have a 48" platform, rolled it up over my breasts. Ouch. Now they are bruised to fuck.

Farmer walks, I did those with 140/hand, and they weren’t bad at all. Just practiced making the turn once…lol. Good thing I’m clumsy.

I worked on the 3" bar for OHP and deadlifts. I had trouble cleaning it with 105 lbs on it, and tweaked my thumb a bit…but I figure it won’t be an issue, or at least it will be less of one, with a 2" bar.

I pulled 245 several times with that thick bar as well (comp is 250 for reps). Interestingly, my hamstrings got activated to hell with that bar. Might actually be useful for stuff other than strongman!

I also played with the log press bar, but that isn’t an event for me.

Then I side spotted this dude for a double. If he’d gone down, I was just going to run.

Haha,
I have a pair of the fat gripz, and they are a great tool, takes things to a new level, forearms get all fucked up.
Nice to play with new tools though t-rex.

You spotted Blaine?

So are you going to do the Strongman? I don’t think that’s a contest for me seeing as how there’s one weight class and the OHPing for reps starts at more than my bodyweight.

Lemme know if you’re doing it. I may try to come watch you if so.

Yeah, I spotted Blaine. Hilarity.

Planning to do the Strongman, but it will probably be a gametime decision.

sounds like FUN!

\m/\m/ <–rockhands!

guy’s a monster!

never thought of thr implecations of owning breasts in strongwomen comps…did you use tacky for gripping the balls?

LOL!

Sorry, couldn’t help it

PMPM Strongwoman Competitor…sounds good, yes? Could it also be something hubs would do (or at least maybe train with you?)? That’d be cool

this is some funny shit.

sorry…Like Inkstain, I couldn’t help myself.

Doubt hubs would do it, he’s big but not overly strong for his size.

I didn’t use tacky, I’m thinking about going to the sporting goods store tonight to get some pine tar?

Just take a hatchet out back and rape a tree for some sap! Aren’t there a billion trees surrounding you at any moment in Colorado?

I see our minds are in the same gutter.

nice work with the stones! and the dl’s!

you get to hang out with ALL the cool people–MAN
…or they get to hang out with you is more accurately enviable. :stuck_out_tongue:

Nice PMPM, jelly on the strongwoman training…and nice job on the handles too!

So . . . how did you do?

Okay, my “show” recap:

Got there at 8am for the weigh-ins. Of course, since this isn’t USAPL and the weight classes aren’t really weight classes, the doors were locked and we waited around for a bit for them to come realize they hadn’t propped the doors open. The other person who got there right at 8, I recognized from some PL meets. PLers are so fucking uptight!

So I get in there, register, and then go get some food at the Panera down the street. I didn’t have to weigh in - all the women are in one class unless she gets more than five competitors. She ended up with four.

I get back to the venue around 930-10, meet the other women, get tips and tricks from just about everyone. Everyone was very nice, similar to PLing, but there was an additional layer of complexity to everything because we were all competing agianst one another - not something you generally have at a local PL meet.

The four women were: Trapplesauce, Fuscular, Ant, and me (no, I didn’t call myself fuscular, funny fuckers). Trapplesauce was really cool, and incredibly strong. 158 lbs, all muscle, very lean. Fuscular and Trapplesauce have national-level type experience. Ant was super sweet, and this was (I think) her third comp. She was the smallest of the three of us, but strong and quick.

First event was 2" axle OHP for reps. We went two at a time; I was with the second group. I have no idea how many I did. You have to press, then look forward and make eye contact to get the down signal. We had 45 seconds, and I failed right near the end. I felt like I did pretty well. We were pressing 110.

Second event was farmers walk. I was in the first group here. We were scheduled to carry 140/hand for 40 feet. I set my grip (handles had no knurling, but were bar-sized), and once I picked up the handles, I thought “Fuck, I am so strong” and started running. It was WAY too easy, and Fuscular and I were within a couple hundredths of a second from one another. Still had no idea who won what.

Later, they offered to let us try again, this time, with 140/hand, instead of 140 total. OOPS. We declined. Once was enough, even with the light weight.

Next, deadlift 250 on a 2" axle for reps, 60 seconds. I got 12. Had #13 up, but couldn’t lock it out before time was called. Fuscular and I tied on this one, so we split the points for 2 and 3 place. Trapplesauce had 16, Ant had maybe 6.

After deadlift, we had a 350-360? lb yoke walk. This DESTROYED me. The yoke is a 4" bar that you carry across your traps, with legs that go down to the ground where the weight is. You place the yoke on your traps and grab the legs, and squeeze the legs, then carry it as fast as you can and hope you don’t pass out. I had it on my back, made it 10 feet, then it slid down. OUCH. Did it again. OUCH. Finally figured it out, and finished, but I was the slowest time.

The skin on my upper back got removed, I had a huge welt, and now it feels like a 4x4" patch of scabby. Gross. Funny thing is, I wasn’t too worried about the yoke walk because I’m so comfortable with a bar on my back. I was terrified of the stones, which were the last event.

Because I sucked on the yoke walk, I was first on the stones. There’s apparently a technique to it. You squat over the middle, pull it up into your lap, then put your arms over it and stand up to get it up onto the platform.

I have no technique. The first three stones - 115, 135, 155 - I just muscled up and threw. No lapping, at all. Stone 4 - 175 - I couldn’t break for several attempts. I stood up and kicked it, then took one more try as time was running out. I got it up to my ribcage, but just not high enough for the platform. This one too, I failed to lap.

With stones, you cover your forearms and hands in tacky. That shit is sticky and gets everywhere. I didn’t realize, however, that it would become less sticky as it picked up dust from the earlier stones. By stone 4, my tacky was pretty much useless. Next time, I will put spare tacky on the backs of my hands for this situation.

So, I ended up getting 4th place. By a half a point. Grrrr. Literally, if I had been able to lock out that 13th deadlift, or not dropped the yoke the second time, I would’ve gotten a bomb ass trophy. The announcer dude did give me a shout-out for being a noob and beastly strong. They were all very helpful and oh, the place was simply overflowing with sexy beastly men. That was worth the price of admission, for sure.

So, would I do it again? Absolutely. Tons of fun. And it’s a VERY different workout from PL. My biceps are sore!!! I don’t feel like I’ll have the emotional difficulty recovering from this like I have with a big meet.

I love how it is more competitive, since there aren’t all the weight/age classes.

I wish the scoring could take into account beastliness… Ant was faster than me, but I significantly out-repped her and got more stones than her. I also wish I had a better sense of where I was in the standings, over the course of the show. I suppose I will next time, when I’m more familiar with everything.

No pics or video from the show - I was there alone - but I have some really horrific forearm bruising, as well as a nice deadlift thigh mark, and my missing bit of back skin.

I’m so jealous!!

Glad you had fun…hubby still being grumpy?

No, he just had a work friend coming to visit, and had to clean house. The work friend is allergic to cats, and we have two of em…

Yoke burn.

Nasty burn, Lindsay.

that meet sounded like a blast!
