#8 on Powerlifting Watch. Unbelievable.

No kidding. I’ve been sitting here holding up my lighter in honour for about 6 hours.
I’m still debating spending the $12 to check out the lists. Is it just U.S. or does it include other countries? Is it international? I’ve been wondering if there is some centralised list of international lifters.
If you pay the money, you’ll see that I’m like #9.
Just kidding.
I believe that there are various lists, and there is something that is international (but I would be like, #987 on that one).
There is one list that gauges people across federations, taking into account multi v. single, testing, etc., but that’s kind of a stretch imho.
As you all know, and those of you have seen me know why, I’m a dedicated sumo puller. I am short, and squat, and have big hips and ass. My t-rex arms are great for squat and bench, but my weakness with deadlifting, so a short ROM is my friend. Conventional has never felt right, I bruise the hell out of my knees.
With all that, Ouroboro’s fella challenged me to do some conventional pulling. Normally, I pull sumo raw to 225, then add my belt. Yesterday, I brought the belt but wanted to challenge myself.
10x135, 6x185, 3x225, 3x245, 3x265, 3x285. I pulled 3x285, conventional, no belt, and it felt good. I’m freakin’ out, man. Last time I tested my raw sumo max, it was 305 with a belt.
Sumo RDLs - 5x6x135, 3x3x185
All DL variations were concentrating on speed and barsex.
Then some face pulls and curls for the girls.
so are you freakin out, cause you don’t know which stance to train??

I’m probably going to stay sumo (all my equipment is sumo), but I always had a mindset that I “couldn’t do” conventional. Going out my first time and doing that, without a belt, really kind of throws a wrench into what I thought I knew.
It also makes me think that perhaps my weakness in deadlifting isn’t my back, like I’d always thought, and that it’s more along the lines of hammies/hips/glutes.

Not to be an asshole, but now would be a time to comment on PMPM’s ass. Have at it, fellas.

I think you have a fabulous curvy figure. Very proportionate and sexy.

Nice. Thanks for the imagery.
Funny how sometimes we “think” something but then testing it doesn’t bear it out. Can’t hurt to cross-train some conventional.
Thw “weakness” in your pull is because your stance is way too wide. You are too stretched out at the bottom to get the pop you need out of the hole…which can also cause barsex to be a problem…you are too wide to tighten your glutes and make sweet lust to the bar.

Yeah, you saw the equipped stance. I’m thinking perhaps I will be using my tighter suit for squats, and my looser suit for deadlifts, so that I don’t have to stand as wide to get to the bar in the future. Neh?
So it’s the whole law of diminishing returns concept? Wider stance when sumo = shorter stroke. But if wider stance = loss of pop then the shorter stroke isn’t really relevant?
I’m curious here because I’m a conventional puller and starting to cross-train sumo. I have [relatively] long legs and can get my feet to the plates. But I obviously am weak with that stance. Just not sure where the “sweet spot” is in terms of foot placement.
Yeah, my super wide sumo stance is mainly because of difficulty getting to the bar with air with equipment. But then the equipment helps with pop off the ground. I’m narrower when raw - but probably not narrow enough, after talking with DC.
You check out Pricilla Ribic, she’s super wide, and she’s shorter than me.
Pricilla. Another freakishly strong woman. Interesting that your stance changes depending on if you’re geared or not. Never thought about that. So much to learn. So much to learn.
kpsnap…the gear supports your back, abs, and hips so much that not only do many people have to change to accomodate tight equipment…their bodies also allow them too because of that support.
A good way to see if your hips are being stretched too wide on sumo is to tape it and see where you are able to keep your butt down. Most of the time when people are too stretched out, the first movement they make is the butt comes up instead of forward, and the knees buckle in. Same thing can happen on squats. When you are too wide you pull your knees in instead of out to get some support underneath you. You may be able to tape sets at ascending weights and at different stances to see where your sweetspot will be.
Take a trip to Louisiana with PMPM and we can fix up your pull as well.

Clever. That tape idea. I wear gear to compete but since I lift conventional, I don’t change my stance. I’ve been told I should switch to sumo because I have tremendous hip flexibility, but I don’t [yet] like that stance. Maybe someday if I keep working it.
Yeah, I’ll come along with PMPM to LA just to make her look good!
She already looks great…and I think if both yall came and trained with me, then yall would be making me look good.
Really interesting and informative discussion about deadlift stance… I’m with Snapper, there’s so much to learn!
PMPM, congrats on your ranking, that’s great! And yeah, very sweet ass. ![]()
I agree, I’m putting some sumo pulls in also and the did bring my stance in some due to heavier the weight, my old hip flexors really start feeling it.
Thanks LSUpowerdoc for the insights…
Congrats PMPM, some fantastic lifting!
oh how cool is that?!!! #8 !! Congratulations!! That is pretty damn cool!
