A Bit of Loose Skin

Hey guys, this is my first post here so there goes:
Six months ago I lost around 66 pounds of weight and dropped from 257 to 194 pounds. I still have a bit of loose skin on my body but it got quite a bit better after I started lifting weights to get bigger and after adding 9 pounds of muscles.

But today, one of the trainers in the gym said that what I’m doing is wrong, that I shouldn’t be trying to become bigger, he said I should get tighten the loose skin before. I’m confused now, is this true or doesn’t matter if I lifted heavy weights like I do know to add mass?

I thought it’s the same thing, but lifting heavy weights and doing 4 sets of 6-10 reps is better (like I’m doing now) because it “fills” the space left inside the loose skin and when/if the skin naturally tightens it’ll be better.
So can you help me out guys on this one, I’ll really appreciate it.

How does he propose you tighten your skin?
I say ignore him and continue adding mass.

Kick him in the nuts, and proceed as you were.

Just make sure your diet is relatively clean so that you don’t repeat the same mistakes and continue losing fat and gaining muscle.

I also lost around that much back when I was in highschool (224 to about 155…so 69 pounds or so).

After losing the weight I, had loose skin as well. But after gaining muscle and losing more fat over the years, it’s definitely made a difference (I want to say I gained 20-25 pounds of muscle, but I can’t say since I didn’t do measurements). I’m no beefcake at only 174, but still, it definitely made a difference adding at least that much.

So I’d keep adding muscle like others have suggested.

Thanks a lot guys, I’ll ask the man tomorrow what he suggests and I’ll let you know.

In my personal experience any large weight loss is going to leave you with some loose skin, I found with going to the gym and maintaining a healthy body weight for a full year all the loose skin was gone.

I imagine age has a lot to do with it as well, but obviously lifting weights wont loosen your skin further so I don’t understand why anyone would make a comment like that.

Also how would one tighten their skin while losing weight anyway, did the guy suggest using clothespins or something lol.

Probably surgery since that’s really the only possible way to get rid of it. But actually, since he’s a personal trainer…he probably suggested some rub on topical…lol.

I think the trainer has nfi. Speaking from experience here adding mass while maintaining or even dropping body fat is by far the best path to follow to tighten the skin.

If anyone suggests to you that you must be below x% of body fat to get rid of it, that is a load of crap. Been there, done that and it doesn’t work.

Keep doing what you are doing.

Thanks for the info guys. I think what the trainer meant was to do high repetitions of lower weights to lean out or something, and not 6-10 reps of higher weights. Also, I have no other interest in dropping down more weight, I want to get bigger by adding more muscles.
