Haha that picture is two years old. I’m training to be a powerlifter, not a physique athlete, but one thing I have learned in my training is that I need to eat at least 4,000 calories a day to gain any significant mass.

I’m 6 ft 0" at about 220, with a fair amount of body fat. I plan to cut some weight once I get my BW over 230 to be more competitive in my weight class.
Fair enough…you weigh 25 pounds more than me, so you would of course eat more. Why do you think you have “a fair amount of bodyfat”? I would see that as a sign of eating too much.
He also weighs 25lbs more than I do but at 4500 I cant gain weight. At 5000-6000 a day i barely gain weight. At 3500 I drop weight pretty dman fast.

And i feel bad for the people the gain weight with 3000cals. Might be easy on the wallet but my god dont you go hungry? My PWO meal is 2000 cals and its gone in 10min and i am starving shortly after.
I think it would depend on what his activity level is.

Are you not a big proponent of G-Flux? Many would need 5000-6000 calories maybe more if they were training everyday (sometimes twice) with really high volume and daily cardio sessions.

if zack khan told you to eat monkey balls and hang upside down like a bat because you would add 20lbs of lean muscle…would you believe him?

stop doing what people tell you to do and start figuring out shit for yourself, holy shit. this whole fucking site is turning into a “he said to do this”, so i ignore any common sense and do as others tell me do to, instead of thinking for my own fucking self.
no but i ll take his opinion over some idiot on the interweb anyday
point is even 300 pounds behemoth dont eat that way
(khan mentions this in one of his videos btw…he challenged any bb’er claiming 10-20k cals a day or some bs). And I am glad he did, I have seen Arnold, Yates, Levrone, Nasser ectect and they rarely ever go over 6k a day
and hes an enhanced pro…its fuckin ridiculous for a skinny asian kid claiming to be natural to eat like this plus I dont even think it is realistically feasible for more than a couple of days/

btw steely u r fat blob. I look 20 times better and prolly still outlift u
get at me bro i ll drive to ur gym if u want

i maintained weight during my exam week at 1500-2500 cals a day for a week, and i am about 195. but yes i have heard about this lower cals= longer life but fuck that u workout because u wanna be a big mother fucker and alot of people who want that dont care to much about being healthy, at least at younger ages, cause were already about as healthy as we r gonna be anyways, that said 8000+ is quite a bit, but i can only wish, after 3 days of that i would be puking my brains out, frank ur the man bro

How does Frank Yang eat 8,000 calories?

Apparently not by cooking a single meal for himself

Btw, whats your food budget?
Really, we can all marvel at his efforts (and rightly so) - but the reality is that this dude is obviously coined. He is in a privileged position.

But of course it’s much easier to forget the economic side of this issue and use him as the overfeed-muscle poster boy to attack everyone who doesn’t have a f**king maid to make midnight protein shakes, struggles to make enough money to support their caloric requirements and has to sweat in a shitty job all day all week to pay bills. Im not a communist, good for this dude and his success, but people’s black and white view here (i.e. lots of food goes in = you get big) is way off

Great post, a lot of does come down to economy.

Wow…it’s a good thing no one here actually thinks like this who has been lifting for a while.

Genetics is at the base of everything. People can debate how bad big calories are all they want to but that is how many big guys got that way even if they scaled back now. That much is just a fact.

If a lifter is seeing positive progress…what does someone else’s opinion of how they eat matter?

SRS dude?

i think some people in this thread are missing the point. in order to pack on some serious mass in just a short time this is the way you have to eat (besides getting on “gear”). hes not going to eat 8000 cals a day for any extended period of time because yes, he’d just end up a fat $hit. plus, the entertainment value of this video is priceless. im gunna go eat big now

I’m currently eating, give or take, the same amount of cals.

Given my daily activities, job, and amount of sleep per night and everything else, it’s needed if I want to gain anything. Using cardio as fat control and appetite stimulant this stuff get’s easy.

Looking forward to hear how this goes for you Frank.
wannabebig250 wrote:
am i the only one who wishes he could eat like that…even for just a month.

entertaining video for sure, good luck on the bulk.

and since when does low calories = longevity. take that shit to bb.com
The low calories = longevity idea is based on animal models and decreased free radical production and oxidative stress-derived damage to mitochondrial proteins with caloric restriction. Use of it in this conversation is a bit of a stretch imo

You’re misreading my point. What I am saying is while this guy is a perfect example of how to grow quickly, he is an unrealistic model. But fuck yeah, if I was rich, I’d be gorging myself dribbling food down my chin like him all day too. Unfortunately, I literally do not earn enough money to eat 8500 calories (by that I mean from a reasonable diet like in the video) a day. literally. no. chance. meh

This is coming, of course, from a guy without any pics in his hub.

Best of luck Frank! This is a very cool experiment and I look forward to see where you end up at the end of this.

james

haha, cool video.

must…eat…more, :frowning:

i dont understand how a simple video of a kid with intentions to bulk up by eating a ton of calories can possibly get a negative response.

bringing in the fact hes rich and has a maid? seriously…wow…just wow. saying all the calories are going to make him fat and unhealthy…its HIS fucking body, mind your own business.

instead of asking why he snorts creatine or if he feels looser form and heavier weights are helping his gains, INFORMATIVE fucking questions, people are bringing all sorts of negativity in here.

this site is going downhill…

Poor excuse. A lot of it was noodles and powder. Noodles might be the cheapest food to make, if not rice. Half the weight gain powders amount to .30 - $2.00 a day and give a ton of calories. Peanut butter, Juices all cheap alternatives when averaged out over a month. If you wanted to down the calories in the way Frank did it, it would probably end up a lot less then your actual food budget. That’s if your going for Junk. Not that I agree with people eating 8500 calories of whatever.

Look. Frank hasn’t stated that his goal is to live as long as possible or that he’s overly concerned about his health when he’s 70. Right now his goal is to put on as much lean mass as possible. It looks like he’s doing well.

Again, most people can’t even estimate their own calorie intake or needs unless they’ve tracked them religiously for years. How are you supposed to tell from his video what he does or doesn’t need to eat?!

I personally eat between 2500 to 3500 calories per day. When I was in college, just lifting 4 days a week and going to class and walking alot, it was probably between 3000 to 4000 per day (I wasn’t tracking it). My brother - from high school through college (he was as a division I thrower) - was putting down 10,000 cals a day at maintenance (he tracked in HS because he couldn’t gain weight at 10,000 calories ). Huge difference in lifestyles.

Would I have been right to tell him he’s eating too much just because I only needed a third of what he was eating? Or because my goals were different?

For real. I ate like that in college with next to nothing. People seem to love excuses lately. It’s either “he’s rich” or “it’s steroids”.

Which is exactly my point. It depends on his daily activity.

The pros may not need to eat that much but i would bet they are less active. Less NEPA = less calories. If all you do is lift then lay/sit around no you will not need a lot of calories even if you are huge. Mass only boosts your metabolism so far. Activity will boost it much more.
