Deadlifted today. 225x5, 280x5, 335x3, 390x3, 445x3, then a new 3 rep max of 512.5lbsx3! After all that i had a huge erector pump and was gonna stop and i said well lets try a new 1 rep PR even when tired. And I got 250kg/551lbs!
I then thought that was enough punishment and benched. And did 455lb PR that went up pretty fast! And then a drop set of 385lb x5 after all that.
My squat has been shitty the last month. Last week i was happy i got 407x3. Today i went at 445pm and the gym was packed with the big dogs even 1200lb squatter tyler. So i couldnt fail in front of them all watching and i also had spotters!!
So i tried 413 x3. It went so easy. I tried 430 which i usually only do once and is near my max and i did it 3 times easy. So i went to my meet PR of 452 and got it twice pretty easily! Which is equivalent to 482lbs. So maybe i have alot of room to improve in squat when i am not scared and doubting self and have spotters and an audience haha
I will most likely be doing another meet in April. Some times i dont know if i will hit 500 bench, 500 squat or 600 deadlift first.
Just when i thought my squat was going down it is now in the running to get the goal first haha. My bench has been my best but even with 455 going up easy. Every 10 lbs on the bench seems like such a long battle. Looking back to jan 2025 i was struggling with 405 deadlift and now got 551 when tired. So it seems like deadlift has been my best improvement. 600 in a meet environment with rest doesnt seem like a crazy idea haha.
either way this year has been a major improvement
This is an interesting thread.
In relation to the deadlift, I think about one of the best deadlifts Iāve seen and isnāt much talked about as the overweight giants have come in is Gerrit Badenhorst 1996 WSM flintstone deadlift in the final.
That was a AWESOME deadlift!!
Iād rather see that than Eddie Hall 500kg all day long.
Has anyone seen the 1996 lift of 903# (410kg) by Gerrit with a non standard bar, with huge rocks used as plates, at a normal deadlift height?
If not, check out the final WSM 1996. Truely one of the most impressive lifts in WSM history. Sure he was using straps but he still used a mixed grip.
