600lb Deadlift Possible for Everyone?

Ya my squat went from 365 PR to 452PR with more in the tank. And i was doing all 5 rep sets. And worked my way up to 385x5. However, i have not changed my form or my volume on the squat. But the amount i can lift has gone down. Like i get to my 320x 5 and it seems heavier than a few months ago. I am not injured. My position of bar and foot width and bar path all seem the same.

I cant match any of my workouts that i was doing1-2 months ago. I am pushing thru. I dont know if its just overall fatigue building up from my deadlifting. Or what.

I usually squat and deadlift once a week. I try squat monday and deadlift Thursday if i can. So lower body twice a week.

I only deadlifted heavy (4 reps) once every other week. The light deadlift week was doing 10 reps with a weight I could easily have done 15 reps. More for form and muscle firing memory than building strength.

Maybe try squatting twice a week with a heavy day (5reps) and a light day (10-12 reps)

Ok i will try to work in a second squat day with lighter weight and more reps. And report back. I appreciate the suggestions

I’m unsure exactly how focused you are on pulling 600 versus other priorities, but I agree with @RT_Nomad that your ability to squat more weight is a limiting factor at this point.

Definitely not at his stage of strength development, and the declining squat numbers while deadlifting more seem to indicate something is off.

@LittleLarry Do you regularly deload? Last time I chased barbell numbers, I deloaded 1 out of every 4 weeks, almost always coming back stronger, just running a Wendler 5/3/1 structure.

I never really deload on any of my lifts. Sometimes ill take an entire week off before meets to recover.

i would love to pull 600 before my april meet. But i know that is asking for a lot. But i went from last year at this time struggling hitting 405 to doing 540.

i dont know if squatting even carries over tremendously to my deadlift style. Like strongmen who basically squat to deadlift might help them alot. But my balance point is when my legs are much straighter i feel like based on my proportions.

but i do want my squat to increase as well. When i was making progress i thought 500 would be attainable by april but i dont think thats doable anymore. But i will still work on it and hopefully it carries over to deadlift too. My bench i really wanted to be high 400s. I hit 452 and now and kinda battling some shoulder soreness.

so my deadlift is the only thing increasing and keeping me motivated

Driving up your squat with food, smart recovery, and a smart training plan will help build the muscle you need to deadlift 600. Your deadlift technique is undoubtedly improving, but I predict a long road to 600 if you’re hoping to deadlift your way to it. I’m not saying it is impossible, I’m just saying all of the heavy pullers I know are heavy squatters too. It isn’t called the King of Exercises by accident.

And you are also strong enough and old enough to actually need planned deloads in your training plan, in my opinion.

In answer to OP I’d say, …maybe, if you have the right genetics and build. Last March I did 501. I’m 67 now, 66 then, 6’2ā€ 205ish then, with simian length arms, 81ā€ wingspan, used to be a D1 swimmer, which also means a very pedestrian bench. Followed a modified 5-3-1. Also had a knee replacement 4 years ago. Wouldve like to keep going, but new knee said no more. Concentrating on Concept 2 rowing now, shooting for a sub 7 minute 2K. Doubt if I could have ever gotten to 600 now,….but when I was in my late 20s-30s? Maybe.

If you’re still pulling 500 in your mid 60’s you 100 percent had the potential to pull 600 in your 20’s and your 30’s, probably even later in life. You may not have become a D1 swimmer if you focused on your deadlift instead of other athletic pursuits, but you could have done it for sure.

IMO a 500lb pull in your 60’s is more impressive than my 615lb pull in my late 30’s. Well done!

Not deadlifting. But i thought i would share tying my paused PR bench press of 452 lbs calibrated plates that i did tonight. Moved alot faster and cleaner than the only other time I got it.

I wonder if i hit 500 bench or 600 deadlift or 500 squat first lol.

Most people can’t,there’s your answer. These coulda shoulda woulda hypotheticals are amusing.

Took some measurements today. These are just lounging around the house after work. No pump. Been over 24hours since last workout. I haven’t measured myself in years. But i got this fancy measuring tape for Christmas. I am 6ft 0.5in btw

What about your neck? Steve Reeves said neck, arms and calves should would be roughly the same in a symmetrical physique. (For what that means) He had other metrics as well but cany off hand remember. I know you are focused on powerlifting, but just threw that out there as a point of interest

The neck is on there. Top left.

My calves have always been behind. But last time i measured them a few years ago they were 13in like my forearm and now they are roughly 16 inches. Still behind my biceps and neck but catching up

The neck measurement is on there. Its the top left box

There it is. Don’t know how I missed it.

Well i had a better squat day today

Did 99x8, 165x5, 209x5, 275x5 warm up

Then 320x3, 363x3, 385x3, 407x3, 430x1

Probably could have got my 452PR even after all these sets but didnt try. 407x3 is like 444 equivalent and did it pretty easily with another rep in the tank.

maybe i will start to make progress again.

@Well_Swung one of my first ever strongman training was due to my buddy certifying on the CoC 3 at a pro strongman’s house.

I had no clue who anyone was in strength at the time except what I saw on WSM. I was just coming off the Arnold bodybuilding fanatic thinking.

I found out later, that guy who was a freak there was Kirk. I had no clue.

Me and my buddy went back to that house a handful more times on Sundays. But Kirk was just there that one day. This was 2003, he was still jacked and doing just like exhibition type things. They had convos about stuff but I was not really in the know.

CoC #3. Not bad.

It was a pretty big deal back then in 2003. Not many strong felllas were closing that back then.

This was also before they made 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 grippers.

He carried that 3 in his back pocket every day until he closed it.
