You guys are great! I practiced just body weight squats and breaking at hips first and sitting back and even at body weight it feels so much better on knees and easier to get parallel depth.
And i bet if my squat goes up i can use my legs more in the deadlift too. Because right now if i try to use legs i just cant even get what i do using the current form. I think it will all come together. I have been over focusing on my bench the last few years. And really need to focus on all 3. Other sets of eyes really help. Because i am all alone in my training.
I got a New 40lb PR today. 5 plates. 495!!
Did 405 moved easy. Tried 465 PR moved pretty easy. So tried 495 and got it!! It was a grind but totally surprised i pulled it off.
Nice lift!
I like your confidence in your grip!
I think 405 is attainable for anyone if they train hard. Past that, it is hard to say. I look at some of my friends that weight 125 and just dont see the ability to get to 600.
What if they gained weight and got up to 400lbs bodyweight?
Ya. My grip has never been an issue. I can never lift enough to worry about grip. But i think my grip is strong. My last strongman i had to farmer carry 575lbs and those dont have knurling and are larger diameter grip. And then i had to farmer hold 450lbs for a few minutes. And i dont really train grip. So the deadlift bar is small and sharp knurling and easy to hold. My legs are the weak point. I mean maybe if i ever get over 600lbs it might start to be an issue.
It looks like you struggle to get Down to the bar during deadlifts and during the Descent of the squat. Like your hips donât know what to do on the way âdown.â
Try out a few sets of seated knee raises to begin your lower body days. Go through some easy Hip Flexion and Hip Internal Rotation before the big lifts. See if that helps you gt into a better position for squats and deads.
Ha. Maybe. On a 5â4 frame? Would be cool to see. But like danny devito. If he prioritized in prime, he gets 600?
With the topic being about âmost peopleâ, I feel like a 5â4 fully grown adult male is a few standard deviations away from the norm.
There was always Andrew âStumpyâ Raynes, at 5â3 and 271lbs bodyweight with a 370kg deadlift
Not quite the same, but Vytautas Lalas came in at 5â10 and 324lbs. Also stupidly thick.
So i know my setup from the front view gets criticisms. But how does form look from side (405lb lift in video)? Roast away if needed. Bar travel seems pretty vertical and center of gravity of weight seems ok since i didnt get pulled forward to rebalance or have to pull it closer in ect. I am shooting for 341 squat, 407 bench and 501 deadlift at the meet this Saturday. And then really start to train stuff other than bench for a solid year and see where it gets me.
That is the most unique setup I have ever witnessed. It almost looked like you were in that super tight sumo setup, then you just attack like a bird swooping down for a fish.
Pretty cool.
If you wanted to, are you able to get down to the bar in a controlled, non-bouncey hinging movement?
Dip-Grip-Rip is cool for deadlifting, and not necessarily bad technique.
But if youâre swooping down because youâre physically unable to bend over at ânormalâ speed, and you Must do that to get to the bar, it shows a specific weakness(es) to work on.
One question first: Do you do touch and go reps on the deadlifts, or do you reset on every rep?
My biggest concern is that your back is far too humped for a weight of only 405lbs (while aiming for 500lbs). You should be easily doing 405lbs with a flat back if you hope to do 500lbs.
Maybe descend a little slower so that you can get into the proper position before pulling.
Also, we always deadlifted in competition with âdance shoesâ which were pretty much nothing but the thickness of cloth. The rules stated that shoes were required. âDance shoesâ are shoes.
I dont do that many reps, but when i do its touch and go. I do alot of low reps 2-3 on the way up warming up. And then singles. And i do alot of singles only a minute apart. When i do rep 405 its touch and go. Mainly because if i am grabbing bar when its at rest my position is all fucked up and hard to lift correctly. Now if i let go and stand up and grab again i could reset each one. And do reps that way with like a 5 sec gap in between. But if i am already holding bar and set it down and try to reset with hand on bar i cant lift it well.
And why is 500 out of the question? You seen my 495 lift. You think 5 more lbs is that much out of the question? Here is 495 and 475 lb lifts.
And you think if i rep more in training and make sure i reset every rep it will help alot versus the touch and go reps?
And my deadlift shoes are probably only 1/8-1/4 inch thick. Very thin like on the floor
And i feel like my upper back is curved like that just from trying to reach the bar. Even if not pulling weight my arms are short and i feel i can barely get to and grab the bar.
How much can you deadlift with a straight back. This is rear chain and hip power.
IMO, you have an odd strength distribution. I could deadlift near my max before the weight âcracked me over.â As I approached my max, my hips could no long carry the load with my back straight The heaviest weight âcracked me overâ such that I had to hump my back and unwind my spine to complete the lift.
It seems to me that you have weak hip involvement, which could explain why squats are difficult for you to get heavy.
It is not. You hit 495 you will hit 500.
