Well, yeah, there you have it. Everyone has advantages in one area and disadvantages in others.

That’s exactly what I did.

First comp I did, I THOUGHT I would do well. I didn’t, but I went in to it thinking I could win.

Second comp, I did better, but again, since I was so inexperienced, I really didn’t know what to expect. I scouted Facebook pictures of the competitors signed up, and determind for myself that there was 1 guy who was probably stronger. Turned out, 7 were.

After that, I picked comps that had events that were favorable for me. Did a little better. And I won one of them. Then I picked a few that were slightly outside of my comfort zone, still won or placed.

The fact that I’ve placed everytime I’ve competed for like the last year should tell you I’m not setting my sights overly high. I’m certainly WANTING to win in comps that aren’t as well suited to me, but if I see a comp that has 3 carries in it, I can guarantee you I’m not signing up, even if it was in my own backyard.

Nationals is appealing to me this year because I like the events. It is aiming higher. But I’m also getting consistently stronger.

Basically, I’ve been trying to win every time I compete, and I"m not doing shows I don’t think I can win. Am I building to higher levels? Yes. But I’m not competing in shows that are above my level.

a few more things:

as @ActivitiesGuy suggested, you COMPLETELY misunderstand the topic at hand, @lava2007 . That’s not at all what we were discussing. Sorry.

I want the pill that makes me win. I want it I want it I want it.

You guys who value the work and the process that goes into competition and lifting need to watch the Born Strong documentary. Listen to what Brian Shaw, in particular, says about competition. ALL he cares about is winning. At everything. He’s pissed off if he doesn’t win at fucking chutes and ladders. This is how winners think. Win at ALL COSTS. It’s not about the road, it’s about the goal. I do what I can to enjoy the grind, and savor it… But it’s a fucking grind. It hurts. It hurts my body, it’s hurt my family. It takes real sacrifice. And if I could trade those sacrifices in for a pill that would take me to the same place? Yea man. I’d absolutely do it. That pill could shave 15 years off my life and I’m still in, if we’re talking about literally being the best at what I do.

Anna Kendrick is incredible. The pill thing also applies to her. I take a pill and get her out of the deal, and lose 15 years of life? I’m in brah.

If I had to spend it with Anna Kendrick, I’d want my life to be 15 years shorter too…

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha love it. Guess she’s not for everyone.

Obviously I have no idea what she’s like in ā€˜real life’. Perhaps I should have gone with ā€˜the girl who looks and sings like Kendrick and also lives up to the personal expectations I have for her personality.’

what’s off putting to you about her? Is it appearance based or otherwise?

Ya, from excessive hippidy dippidy amirite?!?!?!?

Ya, purely a looks thing–just don’t find her attractive in the least. In the one movie I can recall seeing her in (The Accountant), she was a perfectly fine actor.

You kids and your crazy expressions…Reminds me of an awkward family moment of late. Was watching TV with the wife and (almost 21 y.o.) daughter. Onscreen, an overweight, slovenly, hirsute man was decrying his current appearance, and swore that he used to look much more presentable. In this regard, he mentioned that he used to ā€œmanscape.ā€ This comment prompted my wife to ask aloud, ā€œWhat’s ā€˜manscaping’?ā€ Neither my daughter nor I would look at her, much less answer her question. Thankfully, she didn’t ask a second time.

Well, I do believe American Wedding needs to be added to your movie night queue…

If Anna Kendrick is in it, I think I’d rather watch that fat dude manscape.

Lol, no. There’s a ā€œspecial haircutā€ plot point.

But you might need to watch American Pie first. It’s the original and lays the groundwork for the sequels. It also has a teachable moment about Apple Pie.

Ain’t nobody got time for all those movies!

So American Wedding is a sequel to American Pie–which I haven’t seen, but have heard about (including the pie scene). I’m so glad you said this, as otherwise, I might have fallen prey to @anon50325502’s evil plot and actually Netscaped American Wedding for an evening of movie-watching with my rather innocent (ā€˜What’s manscaping?’) wife. Such an evening would not have ended well for me.

Edited to stay on topic: I don’t think my wife could ever DL 600#.

YAR! This is one I haven’t done. I pulled 565 @220 years ago. Recently I’ve pulled 535 @ 178 with only a few months training it after several years of not deadlifting at all. 600 should be totally doable for most people, because I’m not very good and it’s there for me.

The whole series is immature smut! But I have to admit that I enjoyed meeting Nadia. I mean, I’m still a male.
