Nice lifting, not sure I could do 5/3/1 and squat every day.
Morning squats (sounds like a medical condition):
45 x 10
135 x 5
165 x 5
205 x 5
250 x 5
315 x 1
330 x 3
350 x 3
370 x 3
405 x 1
455 x 1
The video is of the 455. I know I kind of lost it at the end, but right now I’m more concerned with hitting depth since I’ve never squatted in a competition before. Let me know what you think
Depth is good. One thing you might want to practice is holding the weight at the top once you have squatted it.
In the gym setting most of us sort of “throw” the bar back on the rack after heavy singles but at the meet you will have to hold it for a second to show you have command of it.
what Joe said. at beginning and end demonstrate control of the weight.
nice hair cut, and you look to be one big mofo. how tall are you?

must be the camera angle; i’m just 5’8". and i’m all about the low maintenance hair-do
Squat:
5 x 165
5 x 205
5 x 250
Deadlift:
5 x 210
5 x 260
5 x 315
3 x 415
3 x 440
3 x 465
1 x 485
1 x 505
5lb dead PR; yes I’m quite pleased. 2 things different 1:deadlifted in the weightlifting shoes for the first time. prefer the extra stability to the reduced ROM of barefoot/five fingers 2:did the session as written. there’s a big poundage jump between my warmup sets and my work sets; I had been putting in a couple of other sets in between to reduce the leap. this time, I did what the numbers said. My grip was a little iffy on that last one, but that’s the least of my worries come meet time. The knurling on my cheap craigslist bar is almost non-existent and the bars the SPF uses are magnificently knurled. Good session tonight if I say so myself.
yuck…
5 minutes on bike
Squat:
45 x 10
135 x 5
165 x 5
205 x 5
250 x 5
Bench:
45 x 10
135 x 5
155 x 5
190 x 5
230 x 5
285 x 5
305 x 5
325 x 4
Agree, depth is good. One thing I can see, maybe a side shot would be better, but your pick is mainly using your back, if you get more under the bar and lift with hips straight up it will help when the weight gets even heavier.
Looking forward to meeting you this weekend at the meet.
Wow, you’re a big boy. When you say 5’8", do you mean height or width?
Puzzled why you start with feet close together, then spread them with the weight on your shoulders. If I tried that, would be fighting for balance. Any special reason?

Coolness, thanks for the tips. Look forward to meeting you as well

Thanks for the compliment; I don’t think I’m that big yet.
as for the foot dance, well, I don’t have a good reason, so tonight I spread my feet to where they would wind up, then unracked and took a step back…
Why didn’t you tell me this earlier? Seriously, thank you; this is much better.
Almost back into a regular routine; I actually did my OH presses and some rows tonight. It’s like I found my big boy pants
Squat
135 x 5
165 x 5
205 x 5
250 x 5
Z-presses
45 x 10
70 x 5
85 x 5
105 x 5
135 x 3
145 x 3
155 x 4
Meadows rows
90 x 10 x 5
now I know why John Meadows is so freakin’ huge; those rows are deceptively murderous
I missed this log earlier-
nice work
good squatting- good arch.
your kind of a Hoss
Hey, I’ve giving out advice on form! I may really be getting somewhere with this stuff! (This from the guy who just a few months ago had to start squats all over with a broomstick because my form sucked.)
Yeah, you’re more stable when unracking. Also, you want to save as much time as possible holding the bar. Every second you’re burning up precious energy.
And you’re still a big guy handling weights I can only dream of at the moment.
Squat:
45 x 10
135 x 5
165 x 5
205 x 5
250 x 5
315 x 5
335 x 5
355 x 6
I seem to squat better in the morning, but I had to fling myself out of bed today, so this is all I’ve got
I find the three-step squat walkout works very well. Line up under bar. One foot straight back. Other foot into wide position. First foot to side into wide position. But if you’re lifting SPF, don’t they have a mono? If so, then I guess you don’t have to walk it out at all if you can line up under the bar in squat stance.
Fun that you got to meet Joe, Ronda, and Lil Power.

Fortunately, Lil Power has a monolift, and she’s offered to let me come over and use it, so hopefully I can get rid of my squatting problems. It was very cool meeting her, Joe, and Rhonda; they’re good people
Wow, four getting together at once!
How far is it now to the meet?
