Who said you need to get your bf that high to bulk up?

There’s a HUGE difference between a clean bulk and a dirty bulk.

Whatever floats your boat. At 6’6" 193lbs, the only thing impressive is your height. Something tells me you’ve ALWAYS been skinny.

Trust me, at 6’6 you will need to do some bulking if you want that “thick” look you say you desire. This is coming from a guy that is 6’7 at 240 (and could probably stand to add a little more mass.

Dear Sir-

You have no idea how or what I eat so easy with the cheerleader comments.

It doesn’t matter how “clean” you eat. Excess calories are going to be stored in the body as fat. Sure clean foods are better with regard to insulin spikes, thermal effect of food, Omega-6s and the like but if your body can only make so muscle in a day extra calories are useless.

I don’t have a closed mind at all. I’ve tried the bulking thing and watched the fat build. It doesn’t show so much on a guy my height but abs sure dissapear pretty quick going from 10% to 16% bf - less than 12 lbs for me.

I’ve gained 2.5 lbs of LBM in the last month, keeping that up I could be around 215 in a year. I’d be ok with that. No quick fixes in this game.[/quote]

You’ve fallen into the trap your average gym goer falls into when they think about “bulking”. You’re scared of losing your six-pack. If you’re 10%bf you wouldn’t need to get to get to 16% to thicken up. Hell…if you gained that much fat you probably ate crap and didn’t have enough intensity in your training.

As someone said, for 1lb of fat your should be gaining 4lbs of muscle.

Do you want to be a beast, or the guy with the six-pack that no one can ever see unless you never wear shirts and even then…what is someone more likely to be impressed by…a 6’6 guy with a six-pack or a 6’6 guy who looks like a real life Optimus Prime?

Alright, you can only get hit over the head with good advice for so long before it sinks in. This is +10 lbs to the frame and some heavy lifting for 2 months. The current goal is 215 lbs.

A few more…

Lats

It must be frustrating to be so tall in the weight room, but if you stick with it, your efforts will pay off. A buddy of mine is 6’7" and is on the UT basketball practice squad and he weighs about 230 and carries a little more fat than you and looks pretty good. So keep goin’ mate!

don’t be so selfish, I thought like you and suffered a lot about not gaining weight, i increased my food intake and went from 0.5pounds per week to 1.2 pounds per week, I was doing a lot of cardio and that keeps you very lean, do cardio with measure and EAT a lot of good food.

Hope to see your pics. If you make the effort you will reach a level that for most is just a dream.

Hate to say this, but his legs matches the Drivethruhero’s neck.

Juan-

Not sure the word you want is selfish, foolish maybe. Anyway, can you explain to me why you are doing cardio if you are trying to gain weight? Seems counter productive. I’ve gained 10 lbs in 8 weeks and not much of that is fat; feel I am doing ok.

first, don’t pay attention to the word, the thing is you are open to advice from others (not me).

I was doing a lot of cardio, and have a lot of problems controlling my waist fat. I stop doing cardio to gain weight, I think you are doing ok, but you say you don’t want to bulk. I agree with you about not going higher than 15% bf, that is sane (mainly at our age).

But, I have seen that [at least my] body needs to be in a state of surplus most time to really gain weight, and keeping you that lean I think is reducing your chances of growing more, maybe you could gain 2 pound per week and reached 16 instead of 10.

Who knows, try it and see what happens, the first to know if you are gaining fat is you, your body looks amazing to me but if I were your height, i won’t mind putting some fat to get as big as possible on the shortest time (this last due to my 40’s crisis on not wasting time). I don’t believe on shortcuts, but with your metabolism, you could be getting bigger(wider) faster than now.

just IMHO.

Recently i was on the middle of a fight against bulking cutting cycle, and did prepare some statistics, i take one year cycle and found that to get the muscle mass equivalent on bulk/cut cycle, I had to grow 1.8 pounds per week with a lot of effort on eating clean.

The investment on whey, etc., to do that, was higher than just eating clean food and cutting. I learn how to lose weight very fast from my skinny guy previous obsession, so bulking and cutting is just repeating what I already mastered last year. so, in terms of time, effort and monetary, it is better to bulk/cut than just half grow.

and remember I was doing all that just to make my point about clean gaining.

strong 3rd post

Dude, don;t keep an arbitrary bf% cut off when gaining. We all gain at different bf% and at your age, lean mass gaining is very very difficult.

At your height, a layer of fat will BARELY be visible (just like muscle)…and if you focus on gaining strength in every movement, you will over a period of time (like 2-3 years) add about 50 pounds (with maybe 10-15 pounds or so of fat) with a solid bulking diet (clean), intense lifting, some form of cardio infrequently and good supplements.

How have your lifts progressed in the meantime?
Also as a tall guy, the leg press is a must for you. Since you already squat a good amount, continue squatting but make the leg press and hack squat machines the cornerstone of your leg training.

I think most of your post is true for people our age. (I am not so tall, but leg is stil a must for hormonal triggering)

Don’t I know you from traineo?

How goes the crossfit?

What has your diet consisted of for those 8 weeks? I’m curious.

I don’t think so…

Have not done crossfit.

My diet has been decent food, just more if it: lots of eggs, peanut butter, beans & rice, cheese, steak, chicken, salads, some pasta, even a few chips and fries. I’m finding, at least for me, total calories and getting enough protien is all I need to add the muscle without adding too much fat. Lucky bastard I know. I also have a Surge like shake pre and post workouts. Total, that’s about 1500 calories and 120g protien.

no wonder, why you don’t get fat. I eat twice that and I am 1’ shorter than you. you can eat more than that and you will look better. don’t take me wrong, but i think that some more muscle will make you look better.

No. no…

Just the shake portion is the 1500 calories. I don’t really add up all my calories just look for a general upward trend in weight.
