531 and Injury Prevention

Hello,

Apologies if this is obvious or has been asked before.

I have a quick question to ask. How do you reset the weights for the 531 program if you have completed several cycles of the program and have managed to complete the reps? I ask this as I want to prevent injury and am aiming for more of a long term strategy.

For example hypothetically speaking a bodybuilder completes several cycles of bench press with a training max 85%. The first cycle they do is 80Kg, then 82.5Kg, then 85Kg, then 87.5 etc etc working their way up to 100Kg. Even at a 100Kg they complete their full set of reps for the prescribed. At what point would say they should consider dropping the weight back or would say simply continue till they fail, and then drop the weight back 2 or 3 cycles?

Thank You

The original idea was 3 cycles foward, 2 back. That way you never fail, never stall.

Thank you. That is really useful to know.
