On my most recent bench press cycle my 6th I only got 1 over my minimum lifts on the 5+, 3+, and the 1+. My next cycle if I go up 5 lbs I know I can still get the minimums, but might not get more. Was debating dropping back down by 10 lbs to get more reps and then going back up by 5 each cycle.
Should I do this next cycle at the higher weight and only get the minimums or drop down to get more volume? Btw, I have seen amazing results in the 6 cycles so far. Went from 295 for 2 in August to 305 for 3 in November and 315 for 2 tonight. Body weight 151 lbs.
As long as you arent missing any of the required reps i wouldnt reset. If you are hitting them only for the required reps then do that as long as you can hit the required reps. I do a full extra cycle if i miss a rep just to see if i can hit it incase i was having a bad day. I would only reset if you miss reps for two cycles in a row.
Without a doubt, I recommend doing 5 cycles forward and 3 back (remember the principle is what is important). With Jokers added, you now have the best of both worlds. Don’t get caught up in increasing the TM - think of layering the foundation with success.
Thanks. I haven’t been doing Jokers, because I have been going AMRAP the last set. BTW, I prior to last night, I had only done 315 for 1 rep Nov 2012, so that in itself is as much weight as I had ever lifted, and I got it twice.
