5/3/1 w/T25 Focus on Off Days?

Gents (& Ladies),

I’ve been using 5/3/1 for quite sometime and found it to be outstanding and have made great gains since using it. My question is, is doing some of the T25 workouts on off-days too much, counterproductive? I’m shooting to lose a few lbs. and thinking if I could choose a workout that wouldn’t interfere w/the previous day’s workout/following day’s workout then maybe give it a shot? I’ve been jumping rope but looking to change it up.

My apologies if this has been discussed, I searched and didn’t see anything. Thanks in advance!

What is T25?

Diet + lifting + prowler/hill sprints/weight vest walking/anything other than that infomercial bullshit = what you want to achieve

Jim,

Focus T25 is the new flavor of the week exercise routine that is shown on infomercials, like jkt123 mentioned. I think it’s from the same guy that did Insanity or P90X. It’s been bitterly cold here lately and I haven’t been able to get out and do much–trying to get something to burn off this holiday layer

Does your gym have an airdyne bike? Or tredmill? Do some sprints on the tredmill or something like that. Also jumping rope and burpees are effective for fat loss. You dont need to pay 5 payments of 19.95 for some dvds from a fake trainer like Shaun T

My gym is actually an outbuilding next to my house. In it I have a rowing machine & a jump rope, the rest are weights, bars, benches and a squat rack. I’ve done some complexes and like to get outside when possible to do the weighted vest walks. I got my hands on a copy of the T25 so I’m not out any money there but I haven’t given it a shot yet.

I don’t know - no experience with that sort of thing.

Thanks for the input guys! May give it a shot until we get a thaw outside.

watch Rocky 4. Then put on your weighted vest and hike through snow–the deeper the better.

By “rowing machine” do you mean a Concept2 rower? If so, give that a shot. In my experience, it doesn’t beat me up like running, but…it…will…kick…my…ass. I do a 2000m row (~7.5 mins) after every workout, and on some off days I do intervals of 300m (~1 minute) followed by 1-2 minutes of rest. If I get after it hard, I’m gassed and sucking wind when I’m done, and ususally still running hot an hour later.

If you’re interested, Eric Cressey has an article on T-Nation that can point the way.

CUBUFF2028–I thought of trying that, even went for the idea of punching the frozen slabs of meat hanging from the hooks. All I could find was the neighbor’s cow grazing across the road, I got one good swing in at it before it kicked my ass back across the road.

Youngoldguy–Outstanding avi! The rower I have is an Integrity 3000 Air Rower, not sure how that compares to the Concept2 other than it’s 3x cheaper. It is an ass-kicker as I’ve finished some of those same workouts you’ve mentioned. Thanks for the input on Mr. Cressey, I’ve read several of his articles in the past and will have to look that one up. Would you see it as productive to do the rowing at the end of workouts, say, after a deadlifting day/squat day or would it be too much?

I don’t know anything about them, other than my gym has a C2. I am on the second cycle of Beyond 5/3/1 1.1, which has a SQ or DL every workout. I’ve not noticed any detrimental effects from doing the rower at the ends of those days. Ideally, I’d row on the off days, but that’s not practical for me.

Well if you’re able to SQ/DL every single workout and not notice any issues then I should be good to give it a shot w/no problems. Thanks for the input!
