5/3/1 - Makin' the Reaper Wait

I just saw that. I think that was a good move.

I really need to start thinking about how to bring in some passive income. Seen some ideas about creating niche informational websites that might be worth looking into. The trick lies in finding a somewhat lucrative niche. Then it’ll be 2 days of work with a flex day where I either work or play computer games all day.[/quote]

I read today that people are selling insurance on fantasy football. You can apparently buy insurance on your players, and if they get injured you get $. If it’s anything like health insurance, there’d be all sort of ways to get out of paying. Like, “Oh, you used the wrong color of ink for Tuesday on the form, so we deny your claim.”

Maybe you could make up a fantasy bodybuilding game, and sell insurance on that…

I’m going to try training today, still deload, but I don’t know how it’s going to go. Something went goofy in my lower left back/hip junction last session and I’ve got little elven fingers of pain running from there into my abdomen and left hip and a little down the left leg. Might have squished out some more disk jelly on the left side of L5/S1. Wonder how that would taste on an english muffin?

Coach asked me to play goalie for the kids passing and goal attacking drills yesterday too and I’m still a little tired and sore from that and chasing down the balls. Those boys are aggressive kickers and I had no backstop. I was drenched in sweat in 10 minutes.

Coach said “See? soccer can be a good workout!” True, but my goals don’t necessarily lie along that fitness axis. There’s a couple of guest coaches from the UK there this season. I like it when they take over the boys for the day. Then it’s a “sit in the sun and contemplate my navel” practice.

2009-9-11 (deload #3)
Overhead pin press (pin 15 - top of head)
135x5
155x3
175x3
195x2
200x3,2 (almost three but got wiggly in the core)

Anderson Front Squat (pin6 parallel)
135x5
165x3
205x3
235x3,3

1-arm DB row
120 8x2 sets

Overhead close grip lockouts (pin 15)
135 10x2 sets

Front squats felt okay. No problem with the left hip. On DB rows, kept the right shoulder locked back, which seemed to hit my weak area for the pull. Good sets.

They published it!

Nice article, this is actually a topic I have been having some disputes with some the of the older, Ernie Frantz school PLers I converse with, one of which is a motivator on our Monday night bench sessions. I might actually print this and bring it Monday to have him read, because he isn’t internet savvy enough to follow a link, lol.

200 OH pin press on a deload.
hmm

great article I just read through it.
good job.

Thanks guys.

Kmac - I remembered my rationale for the 3x2@80%. Deloading is done at either 80% intensity and or 60% volume. I do three singles@90%+ followed by a 5@80%. 60% of 5 reps is 3. so I end up doing 3x2@80% because it seems silly to do 3 singles @ 80% and then do 3 reps@80%.

That’s my thinking anyway…

New slight alteration in the program. Stick to one or two singles@90%+ or just go for a max single and then do 5’s. 12 similar lifts at that intensity just eats me up over two/three months in a sneaky way. If I can keep it to 4-8 I might keep pace with recovery.

And deload is done. I hate doing lower weights.

The Charming Albino Author. Great article! I’m betting your volume and cheeseburgers are poised to take off

Its always exciting to get published. Good article!

These are the strongest human beings on the planet for squat bench and dead and if they are doing it, there must be a good reason why.

Thanks for sharing the article.

awesome article!!! very well written. i’ve been playing around with writing another article for the bench- little tweaks that i do beyond the “tucking the elbows” stuff.

again… great article.

Thanks Meat and all.

It’s strange how nervous you get writing these things when you know knowledgeable people will read them.

Thanks, but it ain’t much compared to some of these other guys

as usual nice work DCA. You are a beast in sheeps clothing.

I’m afraid I got a little p.o.'d about the the 265. Bar went halfway up stalled and came back down (shoulder again). At that point I let out a big ole “F**k!” yanked myself out from under the bar, zerchered it up and slammed it into the uprights.

Scared a couple of “bros.”
