5/3/1 and Linear Periodization

So i have been throwing around this idea for a few days now after reading dave tates periodization bible. I Plan on using the 5/3/1 powerlifting templete for my main lifts and using linear periodizati sets and reps for my assistance work. Any thoughts on this/experience on this?

I been using jims program for about 2.5 years now and have used damn near all of the assistance templates he has made. I though maybe for once i would come up with my own template. Im gonna periodize 16 weeks. Thanks for input

If you have access to the 13-week boring but big challenge, that assistance work is very much so periodized in a a linear manner. 5x10 for 6 weeks, building from 50-70%, then, after a deload week, 5x5 for 2 weeks with 80%, 5x3 for 2 weeks with 90% and then 5x1 with 100% of TM. Hard to get more linear than that. If you’ve been doing 5/3/1 for over 2 years, you probably have a good feel of the assistance work that will help you best–rotating through exercises that address weak points in your main lifts every 6 weeks or so. As long as you don’t increase your training maxes too quickly, it’s pretty hard to screw up the other stuff.

I-Bomb is spot on. All the guesswork is done for you if you do that. Another option is the Simplest Strength Template from the 2nd edition.

Guys,
Thanks for the replies, yeah reading the BBB challenge is kind of what spurred this whole quest on. I will post tommorow on what i am planning for the micro and meso cycles.

I got it for $10 for kindle
