Hara,

Every time I read this I cry, if you’re not banging out ridiculous OHP numbers you are throwing down 8 sets of 10 chins, my math is poor but that seems to be 80 chins, something that would take me 115 sets to accomplish (partials), excellent work in here sir.

Thank you sir…still got lots of work to do.

9 week home stretch. This meet is hitting during a perfect time at work. I don’t have any global trips planned for the next 2 months so hopefully I won’t miss too many training sessions. I’m looking forward to giving this a solid run.

I try to always have 2 meets on my calendar a year. My work / travel schedule is insane so having dates locked in helps me plan better. One thing I’ve found is If I go from one competition training cycle right into another I won’t make significant improvements across the board. The more time I spend getting stronger in my 75-80% loads the better my performance.

My plan for this upcoming meet is to participate in the Push Pull division. I’m using bloc periodization for my Bench and deadlift but will keep my squat in that 75-80 range and try to increase the volume (without the use of wraps). I’ll try to keep this going as long as I can and then ride it into my next full power meet in the spring or summer.

A meet without a squat? Blasphemy!

Benched 250x4 for 6 sets
Snatch grip deadlifts
Front squats
Abs

A meet without a squat indeed. I just want to mix up my training a bit.

Deadlift off floor…working sets with 425
Front Squats sets of 5
Floor presses sets of 5
Abs

Were you doing floor presses with 425 too…that’s nice work.

No, the 425 was just pulls…I’ve never gone over 300 on the floor press and that was just for a double. I don’t bother putting the weight up for accessory work because I base it on how I feel that day. The main lifts are where my numbers are programmed.

Nevertheless, good work.

Interesting idea. Have you always done that? I have never tried that.

PuMping up the volume at 5AM.

Taking my time building up my squat speed.
225 for 10 sets of 5 with 2 minute rest period between sets.

Little abs, little GHR, little band leg curls. Worked up a good sweat and will build up weight from here. Fairly easy.

Snap,
It may be because of my lifestyle (4 kids, wife, long work days, travel, age) but I just can’t focus on the small stuff like accessory work. I do it but don’t prioritize it in any way. If I hit my main lift numbers, the accesory stuff is gravy. If I hit a 5 or 3 rep PR on a main lift. I take my belt off and go eat something. The training day isn’t going to get any better.

Speed squats are great and always get my energy going through the roof.

Well, there go my Jan meet plans…gonna be traveling that weekend. I’m just going to keep lifting as if the meet was still on and go for some gym PRs. I’m sure I’ll get on the platform before March.

Felt like pulling some heavy weight

deadlifts 500x3 4 sets
deficit deadlifts 365x6 3 sets
block pull deadlifts 525x3 3 sets
weighted chins 25x6,35x6,45x6
rope crunches 100 reps

A few guys I know are doing a meet in May so I’ve decided to make that my new goal. I booked a week vacation in the tropics with my wife immediately following the meet so I’ll have two things to look forward to. I’ve planned out my training blocs, now it’s just a matter of executing and staying healthy. I have lots of wiggle room in here because it’s 22 weeks away.

Tropical vaca…Im very jealous!

Training looks good too!

Week 22 D1

Deficit DL 45 second rest between sets 335x3 for 7 sets, 8th set hit 8 reps
Front squats 6 reps pyramid from bar upto 225 and back down to bar
Incline dumbell press 50,75,85,95x10
Seated row wide grip 40 reps
Reverse hyper 40 reps
Abs

Going through a phase where light lifts are feeling heavy. I’m hitting my goal weights but it’s much tougher than it should be this early in my training blocs. I’ve found the way to overcome this is to dial up my conditioning on off days. Conditioning is miserable and boring. That said, it eventually makes me look forward to simply moving weight. I’m off from work for the next two weeks so I’m hoping to get some quality work in.

We’ve all been there my friend. Sounds like a good plan to get past it and the only times I have had success sticking with conditioning is when it is being done with a specific goal in mind.

Happy Holidays to you and your family and enjoy your vacation.
