40 Yard Dash Times

This post may be past the point of being viewed, but I thought I’d throw in some fact:
I just finished playing defensive end for Penn State this past year, and not only are 40 times horrifically exaggerated, they are indeed extremely overrated. My best electronically timed 40 at PSU was 4.66 at 261 lbs. Only 2 or 3 players broke the 4.5 barrier, so all these high schoolers that make ridiculous claims about 4.2’s and 4.3’s are probably having their mom’s do the timing with her wristwatch.

Anyway, lateral speed, change of direction and explosiveness at the point of impact are all that matter in football anyway. If a guy is out in front of you and he runs a 4.6, and you run a 4.4, good luck catching him, unless you have 200 yards in which to do so…
