40 Pull-up Challenge

this is the correct way to do a deadhang pullup

One way I’ve found that helps ensure dead hang is tensing the triceps at the bottom of the movement.

Ok this wasn’t a pop at the 40 pullups, i’d done 10 good ones before I turned this on but realised the bar wasn’t parallel.

Camera is at a bad angle as I had to lean it against my shoe.

This was 8, 6, 4, 3, 2. I think the problem I had was too wide a grip as this felt much more natural to go closer to lockout.

I think I will try 10,9,8,7,6 with 15 seconds between each for the real thing.

Man I hate to be the one to say this but you simply need to blow up your pullup form and start over. Forget how many reps you think you can do because they aren’t really pullups. I dont think you’ve done one real pullup across all the videos you’ve posted.

Forget trying to get a little more arm extension, all your doing is trying to go as deep as you can with your teres major and arms still in a good strong position, unfortunately this means you will never go all the way down. Drop to a DEAD HANG, then pull yourself over the bar. If you are able to get 15 straight reps the way you do it now, you’d be lucky to get 8 doing them right.

This is the problem with competitions like this where you have no standardization, people start cheating and doing themselves a disservice as well as artificially bumping up numbers of whatever exercise they are doing.

I just read your post about how the competition is to go close to all the way down. Far be it from me to criticize someone else’s competition, but who the hell gets into a contest to see how many specifically poor pullups they can do? Its like entering a competition to see how much you can deadlift with significant spinal flexion… You also can’t standardize because there is no terminal end point on the bottom end.

thats what i said in a few posts on page 1.you cant have a timmed deadhang pullup challenge. timmed and deadhang dont go together…some will come to being completely still at the bottom before going up for rep 2…kiping pullup challenge is fine, but its impossible to have a dead hang contest. search for the video i posted a few post before this one. that dude is doing a deadhang!!

I only ever asked for training tips and what combination of sets/reps would be easiest to complete for 40 in ~95 seconds.

spk, the black guy in the 2nd video i posted has the technique I want, I don’t need to be perfectly still at the bottom as you’re right that would be pointless to do it for speed. Thanks for bugging me to fix my RoM.

shadowzz4, I know the other ones are wank but the ones I posted today were much better having looked at the video. I’m not a fan of the lack of rules but if i’m allowed to only go 80% of the way down then that’s what i’ll do if it gets me my quickest time.

Leaderboard:

1st: 1:02
2nd: 1:34
3rd: 1:40
4th: 3:30
5th: 3:55

guessing the last two are the only ones doing it properly.

I hear ya bud, I’m not trying to tear you down, I’m just trying to say this is doing more harm than good, your ingraining movement patterns with all the wrong muscles and building all the wrong muscles. But best of luck in the contest.

1st 44.9
2nd 45.1
3rd 45.5
4th 46.9
5th 1:16

There were a few light guys who could crank out 40 in a row, can’t compete with that and 1:53 was my best effort.

^^those count as pullups for the competition? I thought they were supposed to be full ROM with no kicking/kipping (also known as cheating)[/quote]
