I think you have died my friend. Only a zombie would be like this.

I’m often quoted in saying that no one told me I had good genetics until AFTER I had trained for 15 years.

This is so true!

I was recently told I had good genetics. This guy was convinced I have better genetics for gaining muscle and being lean than him.

I have a photo from when I was 15 at school. I looked 5 years younger than everyone else in my class. I was tiny. There was a girl next to me who was twice my size and she was slim.
I have another photo when I was around 25. I looked like I had cancer as I was so skinny. I was useless at sports as everyone else was physically stronger and faster than I was. I also have a small frame and skinny joints.

I’ve somehow become genetically gifted in my thirties when in my teens and early twenties people used to laugh at me for skinny and weak I was.

The guy who said I have better genetics is also someone who spends more time at the gym on the phone than training. People are very bad at being honest about how hard they work, and how consistent they are doing it. The genetic excuse takes all the blame away from them in their minds. It’s easier than taking responsibility for their own results.

Its a weird dynamic i have found. Guys will hype the genetic card to justify their lack of achievement. While on the other hand you have really elite level individuals down play it.

If you look at it, it’s actually the same dynamic: both groups are wanting to emphasize how hard they’re working. Those that lack achievement are saying that they CLEARLY are working hard, and it’s just genetics holding them back. Those with achievement want to explain that they worked hard to get there, and that genetics weren’t doing all the work.

Exactly! I think you knew where i was going.

Plus… you cant market genetics .

In all honestly what separates a national level from a world level athlete in allot of cases is the luck of the genetic cards. But that’s my opinion.

I think that’s exactly right.

I used to joke that genetics kept me from being a hall of famer, but (lack of) work ethic kept me from the NFL. Whether that’s actually true doesn’t really matter, you know?

In any case, crying about God not hooking you up isn’t taking you anywhere.

I think a genetic-based trainer would be awesome. Charge people for an evaluation, then tell them they’ve been dealt the hand they’ve been dealt and to live with it. Oh wait, that’s just CT.

I like CT, but that was pretty funny

I like him too, to be honest, it was less of a thought-out attack than it was me thinking aloud sarcastically while I typed out my idea for a genetic-based trainer, and I couldn’t resist typing it.

But how much did you bench today?

I read this totally out of context and read it as you don’t like children. With being at home with my kids Every day doing home Schooling I couldn’t help it but agree with you. :joy:

I lol’d.

All joking aside, I couldn’t agree more with your statement. I am doing the opposite of what would be required to up my bench. I just find it easy to not eat for a long time when I wake up, once I start eating I eat every 2-3 hours, so when I’m trying to lose weight, I just push my first meal later and later.

I’m cracking up thinking of Pwn disliking his kids so much that he picks their favorite part out of their cereal before giving it to them and laughing as they eat through their tears.

The funniest thing is you can actually visualise him doing it :sunglasses:

Man, not even. My kid has zero dietary restrictions. In turn, they don’t have NEAR the fat kid instincts I do. They eat half a cupcake, are satisfied and walk away. Never woulda happened with me, haha.

Mine were like this when they were a little younger. Now they would eat the cup cake and steal mine when I turn around!!! They are all so skinny though so we don’t restrict anything either.

I want to be a dad eventually. How have you in your households treated candy, sweets and pastries? And junk food? I grew up with candy being restricted to weekends and I’m such a binger but I’m not at all convinced that alone explains it. To be honest I think that we ate until stuffed rather than satisfied at every meal had a much greater impact.

Maybe this should be its own thread…?

Thing is, it floors me the number of guys who will come straight. out the gate using the poor genetic card as a crutch. How many guys have come on here evaluating their own genetic potential after a handful of weeks after their first time of ever engaging in any type of program? I honestly lost count. Im all for goals and expectations being realistic. The reality is most starting out dont have the knowledge or experience in doing so either way.
