315 Bench Press for Reps Contest. 2k for Winner

http://asp.elitefts.com/qa/training-logs.asp?qid=115462&tid=

Apparently the plates are 49 lbs not 45, so that makes it 339lbs for reps. Ben White makes an appearance at about 20 mins and obviously wins the show. Too bad about the guy with the torn pec. Later on they load up 405 (437 I guess) and Ben White’s training partner Frank Vanoite (not sure of the spelling sorry) beats Ben by 1 rep. The guy’s only 23 too pretty crazy. Ben still won the money though since that was for 315.

This is kind of old. I agree that some people did not lock out reps and others did. Whatever. Ohh and I’ve lifted at bevs, 45 pounds is 45 pounds. I didn’t buy into that 49 pound bull shit.

Fuck I’m really weak

Yeah I just found it and I don’t remember anyone posting on here. The whole 49lb plate thing is just what the announcers said but it sounds pretty suspect, I’ve used the same type of plates and they felt the same to me. For as much regulation of reps they were talking at the begining they really didn’t enforce on the lockouts at all.

It’s gonna be embarrassing if I can’t bench 300 when Im 18.

Wish I could compete in REPS though.

I didn’t watch the video you posted, but knew of the competition as I saw it on RX muscle who held the competition, it probably wasn’t posted here as I’m sure an RX muscle link wouldn’t last for long lol. Romano definitely said the reps needed to be locked, some guys did, some guys didn’t, regardless 315 for 20 plus locked or not is fucking awesome. It sucks for the dude that tore his pec, wouldn’t have been surprised if he won. I do recall vids of Ben doing 500 x 9 and I’m sure he wasn’t go balls to the wall or he wouldve crushed the competition even more. Needless to say I wouldn’t mind doing one of these once I’m a little stronger. 2 grand for benching sounds sweet.

I figure since it was posted on the EliteFTS site it’d be okay. Yeah regardless of the lockouts used that many reps w/ 315 is pretty awsome.

cool video

Fun contest, but man they gave the rules and so many of those were partials…

Argh this needed a warning about the pec tear, been thought that and now I feel ill haha. Usually pecs tear when the bar is on or near the chest, weird to see it happen near lockout. I seriously hope these guys actually warmed up and didn’t just dive into 315. If so then yeah, expect a tear!

Holy hell lots of those guys are strong! I can get 8 clean reps and I am one of the strongest guys in my gym…I think its time to change gyms haha.

Would have liked them to even the playing field though. I am pretty sure the strongest guy won though.

Those guys are impressive.

I thought it was kind of funny how many of the early reps that were not even close to lockout were counted, but then they would not count the very last rep of the sets if it was not locked out all the way.

If I’m not mistaken that dude repped 315, 18 times at 23 years old, and all his reps were locked put. Idc, that’s a strong mother fucker and I’d be pissed too.

Two grand at stake and you wouldn’t be pissed if you felt you were the only one who followed the rules? Please.
