The guy with the chalk all over, as well as Ben White are beasts…

If I’m not mistaken that dude repped 315, 18 times at 23 years old, and all his reps were locked put. Idc, that’s a strong mother fucker and I’d be pissed too.
Two grand at stake and you wouldn’t be pissed if you felt you were the only one who followed the rules? Please.
I just said I’d be pissed unless you weren’t refering to me.

Argh this needed a warning about the pec tear, been thought that and now I feel ill haha. Usually pecs tear when the bar is on or near the chest, weird to see it happen near lockout. I seriously hope these guys actually warmed up and didn’t just dive into 315. If so then yeah, expect a tear!
That was really a shame. I really would have liked to see what he could do.
Oh well. Great vid.

Yeah, meant to quote Steel Nation, not you.
Wicked cool, and an awesome idea. Powerlifting is broken up into what 5 different organizations now. No wonder there’s no prize money in it. You’d think people with that much strength and dedication could get decent prizes for being the best at what they do.
Maybe we should get grass roots on it and sponsor more local stuff like that.
My suggestions:
405 squat for reps
225 standing military press for reps

It would be good for everyone, including the club owner… If you advertise it (just flyers even) at the local highschools and universities, you’d have the place packed with people watching… I’d bet a few of them would come back within the week inquiring about memberships…
Ben White’s almost as broad as he is tall.
Check out the battle of the biceps contest they did a couple months back. 2 guys compete for as many curls as possible with 80lb dbs

If there’s two grand at stake I’d be paying enough attention to the judging to know what I can and can’t get away with. Anyone with half a nugget in their noodle would do the same.
You do have a point, however mine is that:
Maybe he didn’t get there when the other competitors were doing their half-assed reps (doubt it, but a possibility).
Any legitimate tournament shouldn’t leave it to the competitors to perform a rep how they see fit instead of how the rules were laid out.
You have to give the guy credit, even if you disagree with him or myself, his relative ROM is greater than the other benchers’, with the exception of the last few, and performed to their guidelines and demonstration the closest.
yeah thats true. They should definaetly do a 405 squat for reps! Can’t cheat that!
I probably wouldn’t win, but if there were a 405 squat for reps I’d definately get in on that! I know I’d take down some bigger guys lol

My local Gym actually cosponsored a charity event where for every 10 pounds lifted total they donated a dollar to a local charity. They had about 20 lifters total men and women and got permission to hold the event at the local mall.
There were about a dozen really strong people there along with a lot of ‘Strong people in training’ and it worked out pretty well, but it fealt more like “Come watch some local freaks lift crazy weights for charity” where half the people watching were shaking their heads in disbelief as if to say “why on earth do you people DO this.”
My Gym’s owner was hoping that it would be a way to pick up some membership while benefitting charity but I don’t think it was the right audience. I think I’m going to suggest something more like this to him where the audience would first and foremost be people who appreciate strength and power, and in a gym setting, not a place where half your audience is actually in line at a Starbucks and is laughing because a guy just yelled his way through the top half of a 600 lb squat.
Also even if we can’t throw a briefcase full of money at the winner at least we could come up with some kind of award or gift like a couple months free membership at the least. Jesus wouldn’t it be nice if we had more competitions that rewarded dedication and personal excellence?
