Well said though, good sir.

How old are you and when are you going to start competing?

It is apparent that you didn’t read Austin’s post with much discernment, much less skimmed what I (and some others) wrote in response.

There is a difference between

(1) having a passion for bbing and wanting to be strong and muscular, and

(2) deciding you are going to weight over 300 lbs and will be in the Mr. O some day.

One can (and should) be pursued with enthusiasm and dedication. The other goes a few steps further and sounds like a young buck who needs a reality check before he wastes years of his life and ends up feeling like a failure. Unlike some others on here, I don’t see “reality” as a negative or thing to be avoided.

I’m not sure why you have made such liberal use of the caps lock and having your panties in a bunch…you of all people should know how ridiculous Austin’s stated “goal” is since you do compete and know what a Mr. O-level physique would require.

Good post. It takes a true love of bodybuilding to stand out that much in the first place. From what I’ve seen on the site though, the number of people here who actually do love seeing just how far they can go has dwindled so much that people actually felt the thing to do was beat someone down for wanting to be a pro bodybuilder.

That is what happens when this site gets overrun by average people.

haha let 'em have it DG

Trex it’s like Prof X said, just because you don’t find the life or the physique of a pro BBer appealing doesn’t mean jack shit to anyone. I’ll be damned if I stop pursuing a goal because someone cries about how muscular I am. I mean fuck, what a curse! I’m too muscular? Damnit life sucks…

Austin is only 18, and from what I can see a pretty clean 240 lbs. As Prof X said, BBing is a long term sport so Austin has 20+ years to refine his physique and work towards becoming a pro. To already be that large he has to have some genetic advantages so whats to stop him from getting to the pro ranks?

You make it sound like bodybuilding is the only sport in which steroids play a role, making it a less noble endeavor. I laugh at that.

I know you can do it. I expect you to be on stage like this guy.

Austen, there are few enough people with your focused drive and passion in life. Don’t lose it, even if your aspirations change over time.

How is that post ignorant? I assume to compete at Mr. O level you need to be on some sort AAS, and to get to that sheer size you got to know the in’s and out’s of best and most efficient cycles for your body, if i am wrong then please prove it.

Anways, I think shooting for the O is a dumb goal. Hell, for every 1 Mr. O competitor there are hundreds of football players. When a young person comes on here with a nice physique and tons of enthusiasm, I think it would be irresponsible to say “hell yeah brother! you get to 300 lbs and we’ll see you at the O!”.

I know you aren’t big on the concept of limitations, but they exist and I think may be more real than you care to admit (I’m not saying this to be jackass or confrontational, just making my point).

You know, you do have a point in regards to genetic limitations but personally I don’t voice such issues and trample someone’s dreams and aspirations. If Austin wants to be all the that he can be then: “Hell yeah brother! We’ll see you at the O!” Its better to have tried your earnest and go down in flames fighting with honor than to merely give up because some internet talking heads or peers told you it couldn’t be done. [/quote]

Damn straight. Go fuck yourself trextracy. You have this nasty habit of saying “I’m not going to discourage you but…” and then launching into some sort of dissuasive tirade, either subtly argued or outright stated.

Dreams are dreams and they live and breathe on their own. I hope someone goes and tramples on all your dreams the way you just called his ultimate goal “Dumb” and retarded, and impossible.

lol and seems like this time of year with all the ‘seasonal lifters’ popping up too. lol

funny how even in an online forum you can see the change from a select few who post here during the winter to the change to the seasonal spring/summer lifters who show up and crap all over the place LOL

There are a couple of real assholes in this thread, but I don’t think Trextacy’s posts are without some valid points.

My best wishes to Austin to do whatever he wants to do, but genetics and some other factors that have been mentioned can’t be completely dismissed.

And I think looking to do a National level show would definitely be a better, more realistic and immediate goal.

But hey man, far be it from me to shit on anyone’s dreams, so if you truly have the passion and are willing to do what it takes to have an IFBB pro physique, more power to you…

Fuck average. Strive for greatness, or else why even try.

I know conventional wisdom says that there are no “dumb goals”, but there are. Literally speaking, a goal that would suggest the maker of the goal does not have an appreciation or remotely realistic understanding of what it is they are doing is dumb.

And it doesn’t take “focused drive and passion” to make his post- just a T-Nation account. You don’t know anything about him as a person.

Also- yes, there are “dumb questions” too.

I would think that polly-annish naivete would be less welcome on a serious weightlifting site. Apparently, it’s “hardcore” to encourage others’ delusions.

Austin would be too big a pussy to say, for example, “That’s it, my goal is to add 25 lbs of lean mass and compete in my first comp within the next year!!!” That would be an aggressive enough goal as it is- stepping on stage with a chance of winning is a great accomplishment few here will ever achieve.

No, we have to start a thread saying he is going to get to over 300 lbs and compete in MR. FUCKING OLYMPIA…and some posters are giving him a “you go girl!” instead of thinking “hmmmmmmmm…this plan may be replete with fail.”

LOL.

So very right Senor X. (Thank you for the invite, I can’t PM) It seems that society in general is geared to oppress the true die hard iron warriors. If someone is lifting 5-10x as much as you are he must be on steroids and is bound for a premature demise. If you have aspirations of being on the pro level you have to sacrifice your body in the process. You’ll get every single ailment in the book and a couple made-up ones. A line out of Hatebreed’s “Straight to your face” sums this negative interaction quite well. “The longer it takes for you to achieve the faster they want to see you break. Its in their nature to try to destroy what they know they cannot create.” Normal people discourage and criticize because they know that even with their “functional” muscles and training and their cute little six pack they will never attain the awe that a bodybuilder does. Suck a dick normal people. Stroke the shaft and play with the balls. GB OUT! throws microphone down

Exactly. I happened to pick the one sport I know of in which there is a 100% injury rate at the elite levels, no money, no fame, and no notoriety for my passion. That sport is powerlifting.

I know I’m going to get injured sooner or later. I know I’m going to sink money into this and I know I’m going to never be famous for it. But I’m not going to quit, even if my body isn’t made for it.

its not that pros dont use AAS or that they don’t use a combo of insulin/aas/gh/peptides, etc

what I gather from those two remarks are that you had better be an unhealthy walking science experiment to be a mr. o contender.

when in fact you don’t!

I take ‘good pharmacist’ and ‘excellent doc’ offensive in that they assume you are going to be mr. o solely on the drugs you take which will cause you to be completely unhealthy.

which I know is untrue. yes certain things have wear and tear on the body but not to the degree all the dips posting online make it seem to be.

most people dont see the drive many bodybuilders have. I know I for one live this stuff 24/7 in eating/sleeping/ and lifting. Most pro’s are people who have been lifting for 10+ years that way with solid genetics combined with some AAS. So in the end years of lifting + better than avg genetics is what makes a pro…not just ‘oh he must take lawts of them steerroiidz’. lol

if I hear another person say ‘gh gut’ I might just throw a rock at them…many people don’t understand that insulin is the main culprit behind the distention and not necessarily GH.

often a gh/slin combo.

anyways thats another rant completely.

I guess in the end I get tired of seeing genious behind the keyboard spout off stuff on a subject in which they are completely ignorant.

but in the end it was just taken as two snide remarks by two undereducated people on this particular topic.
