Daraz- I have not competed, no. I have considered it and may do a meet in the future.
GettingCloser- I think that overall fatigue was a big reason why the lockout was hard. As far as coming fast off the floor, I just try to visualize pushing my heels through the floor and exploding up as fast as I can. As far as specfic exercises for the deadlift, I do a lot of RDL’s and barbell back raises for lower back and hamstrings, and dumbell rows for upper back.

Weird, your profile says your best pulls are 500x6 and 545x4. One would think you’d have put your 1 repper in there since that’s all you do…
“I rep out to 3 reps once in a blue moon, growth happens with big weights not high reps”
Read post carefully, on top of that I do not use 100% one rep sets, I stay around 80 to 85% of my max for my three to five sets of one.
but your right I need to post 1RM, and update my profile completely and not just add numbers on exercises but revise the older numbers as well.
I dont know if its just that you’re wearing sweats or maybe i’m trippin, but those looked more like stiff leg deads to me. Awesome regardless. Can i ask if you just drop the wait or do you control the weight down after you pull?
Well just to tell you…Jim Wendler deadlift for reps touch and go style, Bill Star deadlift for 5 reps and even the great Ronnie Coleman(youtube video) deadlift a amazing 800lbs for 2 reps touch and go style. MAny strongman competition on tv have the competitors doing some kind of deadlift and touch and go is allowed, this is why many peoples training for strongman will deadlift for reps or time. Also deadlifting for reps will work your grip like crazy…So well if i dont compete in powerlifting but wanna get strong and big…deadlift is a amazing lift to include in any routine and for reps!!

Great job. Very motivating.
Just out of curiosity, did you realize that one side was on an extra mat? That slight difference would have bugged the crap out of me. Maybe it’s just my OCD kicking in.

Brett 295- Yea I was definitely hurting the day after, still am. I did them two days ago and the soreness is pretty brutal.
Active recovery to greatly reduce the pain??? Short sprints at 70% effort focusing on staying loose will help alot to get over the soreness, stiffness, etc and get you ready sooner for another day of pulling…

I started deadlifting at the beginning of last summer (never pulled before that because I had a back surgery in 2005 and was worried about messing up my back).

Considering the circumstances that is some very impressive pulling.

I definitely don’t stiff leg them, but I also don’t squat down as low as some people do. Everyone has slightly different form, but I have a lot of knee bend. As for lowering the weight, I don’t just drop it, so I control it to some degree, but I don’t try to resist the negative. To me, that seems like asking to hurt yourself.

It must be the angle of the camera because both sides had the one little mat underneath. That would bother me too if they were uneven.

Thanks for the advice man. Some active recovery works well but honestly I feel like after going all out on high rep deads you are going to have to deal with some significant soreness regardless of what you do. It’s part of the fun of it I guess LOL.

Thanks man. I certainly never thought I would be deadlifting but I got my back strong enough and my form in check and it is now my favorite lift.

True enough, do you see the stars after high-rep deadlifts?

For the original post…again amazing lift!! Beast!
1.) most people do not train for strongman comp
2.) ronnie coleman is a bodybuilder not a strength competitor
3.) you want an amazing grip it’s called a captains of crush gripper set
4.)this is the strengthforum not the bodybuilding forum
5.) as for jim wendler a strength guru in his own right does not hold a candle to Ed Coan a legendary powerlifter who advocates low rep deads

Not really stars, but sometimes I get that momentary blackout like you get when you first stand up too fast. My eyes also get real red and for a couple minutes everything looks a little bit brighter, but no stars. It just takes a long time to catch your breathe!
