Hey Guys, I’m about to finish day 4 and was curious about how much of the weight I’ve lost (7.5lbs) is really water and is any fat at all? There must be a limit on what is considered water weight and I assume its unique to every person. The results have been good so far even if I feel completely shattered all the time.
If it helps I was at 240.5lbs and now am at 233lbs and started at 24%BF at 6’2". Good luck to those on it and much respect to those who have completed the V-Diet.

Some of it is water weight loss, some of it glycogen depletion in the muscles, and some of it is fat. If you lost 7.5 lbs in 4 days you can be sure that the majority of that is not actual fat loss. You will likely gain back a few pounds of that when you come off the diet. You can not know exactly how much of that is fat loss. Don’t worry about it. Just keep weighing yourself the morning of every 7th day before you eat (and after you pee) and taking photos and measurements.
On another note.. I’m not sure if this is humorous or scary..
… so I’m in the gym today, and it’s between semesters so there are only a few students there. I ask someone for a spot, he doesn’t know what I’m talking about. The second person I ask says he’s never done that before. Fair enough. I ask the last person in the gym, who says to tell him what to do.. fair enough. I get under the bar and explain to him that he should just stay there behind me and be ready to help me lift the bar if I need help, and that I will say the word “help” if I need it.
He looks at the bar and says - I am not kidding here - “I don’t think you’re supposed to use this much weight.” I say “what” and he says “I don’t think you’re meant to put this much on the bar.” He is dead serious. I was benching 155 on the decline press.. not exactly Hercules.. and I can’t believe he said that.
Then on my last set I am trying to crank out another rep and I see him actually starting to wander away from the bench press and play with some gadget in his hand! I had to say “Help” really loud and luckily not injure myself before he returned. Man, I’ll be glad when the rest of the students come back!

Bro, I can’t stand that. Last week was the first week of the semester, so obviously there was a massive influx of New Years Resolutioners. Well, I went to work out at night and some scrawny guys (I use the term “guys” very loosely here) were on bench press. The spotter was encouraging the lifter to crank out another rep, but he rested the bar down instead. Then he said, “No dude, I’m training for strength, I can’t do more than 5 reps or I won’t get stronger.”
I wish I was kidding…
On another note, congratulations on your progress man. Looking forward to seeing the final results. But I was wondering, why does the V-Diet only last 28 days? Is it possible to go longer, or are there long-term health/nutritional issues involved?
Once your on the diet those short 28 days seem ALOT more difficult, imo. I don’t think I could do any extra, but maybe I’m just short on will power. On a side note my roomate has figured out the perfect way to motivate me. He says, “Just give up, your going to fail.” He also knows that I’m a stubborn bastard who doesn’t like to fail/lose at anything I try. lol. Anyways good luck on almost being through with the diet! So close, fight through it!

I believe that the reason is because a longer period would cause significant stress and possible damage to your metabolism. Some people have done it for longer, while others wait a while and do it again. Personally, I am not willing to subject myself to it for any longer than this - I will still keep up my training intensity and watch my food intake, with the goal of further fat loss and/or muscle gain, but this diet is not meant to be long-term. I look forward to transitioning off of it.
Today was the first real grocery trip in 4 weeks. Since I will be eating only two solid meals per day for the first week, it was a much smaller amount of food than I would typically have shopped for before the V-Diet. And as such, I found the experience to be sobering, as well as awkward - kind of like a twilight zone experience. There was just so damn much in the store vying for my attention, but I had a very clear, short list. Along with the joy of finishing the diet tomorrow is an accompanying feeling of nervousness, because my relationship with food has changed, and I am doing a lot of reevaluating.
That being said, I am definitely looking forward to it, and glad that I am escaping with my insanity intact - at least part of it Tomorrow morning will be time to take photos and weight/bodyfat measurements, go for my NEPA walk in the park, and fire up the Foreman!
Good luck to everyone still doing the V-Diet, stick with it - it’s worth it. If for nothing else than the perspective you gain.
Progress:
Total weight from 145.2 to 143.8 (-1.4 pounds)
Body fat from 15.8% to 15.2% (-0.6%)
Fat mass from 22.94 to 21.86 (-1.08 pounds)
Fat-free mass from 122.26 to 121.94 (-0.32 pounds)
TOTAL PROGRESS AND RESULTS <<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Total weight loss of 12.3 pounds (156.1 to 143.8)
Body fat dropped 3.6% (18.8% to 15.2%)
========================================================
According to my Omron body fat scale (accuracy suspect):
Fat mass -7.49 pounds (29.35 to 21.86)
Fat free mass -4.81 pounds (126.75 to 121.94)

Haha… It’s hard to see the difference with all that hair, I know.
Going to the park for my NEPA walk from 11 to 12, then it’s time to fire up the George Foreman for my solid meal!

Great job Wakiki! I can tell the difference in your waist and you have a great attitude towards the whole program. This is only the beginning and I have a feeling you will look totally different this time next year with your improved eating habits. Again, great job!
