26 Bloody Sundays

I’m a miscreant, here at the grace of the mods, have been here for over a decade either active or lurking. I figured I would start a “log” even though it won’t necessarily be a training log. There will be some training, there will be some log.

I am not Castoli.

Recently saw a primary care doc for the first time in a while and managed to hit two daily doubles, or a trifecta plus one, whatever you want to call it. I have been blessed to live in benign neglect for years, but it has caught up with me.

Recent doctor visit revealed I am prediabetic, Type II hypertension, high cholesterol, high velocity gain in PSA, probable enlarged left atrial, probable left ventricular hypertrophy. I have been straddling all of these for years, but it kind of came home with that visit.

I am lean, but have a BMI of 26 so I have decided to lose weight. I figure losing weight will affect BP, A1c, and cholesterol.

I have lost eight pounds since that visit, 11/26. I cut added salt, sugar, added lean protein (chicken), fiber in the form of fruit, and bumped my steps by almost 2000 per day.

I have changed my workouts from strength and hypertrophy to strictly retaining muscle in a caloric deficit. I do PPL with double progression.

I quit TRT because of the PSA and the LVH.

I expect to get small, but hope to get healthy.

I am an obsessive tracker. Recently diagnosed with ADHD, which has been life changing. On 11/26 I weighed 194 at 15.5% bodyfat. This morning I weighed 187 at 14.8% bodyfat. Considering I am off TRT, I think that is huge.

The current goal is 175 at 13%. Over the next 26 bloody Sundays I will keep myself accountable here.

Get some pics up so we can see where you are at.

Looking forward to tracking your progress. I had a similar doctor experience except for the prostate issues.

I’ve dropped over 30 lbs now and have gone from 28% BF to roughly 17-18% so far.

Nothing like a high risk of heart attack or stroke to motivate you.

I’m always amazed by the people it doesn’t motivate. And there are a lot!

Bloody Sunday ONE

Welcome to 2026.

I have had a decent week, but the sweet tooth has gotten me, or something. Weight is up a bit – I always blame it on water retention.

I’m going to refrain from posting pictures. I don’t see how they can contribute to the discussion as my goals are measurable – weight, body fat, A1c, Cholesterol, BP, PSA. And, I am not a fan of looking my age.

Appreciate those following along!

I plan on posting weight and BF and steps. I will post test results when I get them – Urology appointment next week, PCP the week after.

BP – rang the bell with 160/90 BP last visit. I monitored at home and was typically 130/75 to start. I cut salt and it dropped to 110/65 this week. But, we figure the office number is related to anxiety, so I don’t know what I am walking around in the world, so I figure to medicate it.

Psyche doctor recommended an SSNRI for anxiety, as well as Adderall for the ADHD. I am not sure I am going to medicate. I will have that discussion next week with the PCP.

AVE Weight 189.7

AVE BF 15.1%

AVE Steps 6,900

Bloody Sunday ONE is in the books.

Bloody Sunday TWO

Decent week - my kids were here and I ate like an asshole, so there is that. Saw the Urologist, PSA dropped to 3.12 so I can check that off my list.

Gym attendance is good, performance, meh. I use the same weight and start at six reps and bump my reps every time, so I was on 9/10 reps this week. I think I am going to increase reps until I get to twelve and then add weight - I was adding weight after ten reps, but I think twelve will get me into hypertrophy for a longer period. When I drop to six it’s like a deload week even though the weight goes up.

It has been cold and rainy so I have moved my walking to post lifting in the gym - I normally walked first thing in the morning. I also moved the walking to after lifting because of the calorie deficit - I read that lifting signals the body to retain muscle during cardio. Majoring in the minors, but hey, you never know.

WEEKLY AVE - 188.6lbs 15.1 BF%, 7,600 steps

Yeah, I knew that term was going to be a problem.

I am replying here because I can’t reply in the other post due to my user level. I felt it was important to clarify my thoughts, much like @BrickHead did regarding his use of Alpha. I can be a little slow.

I will clarify and then give a source for my thoughts.

Masculine energy is the desire to impose order and create safety for a society. It is not the sole domain of men.

Feminine energy is more creative and chaotic. Artists, male and female, harness this energy.

Most people have a mix of both. Men can have feminine energy (creative) and women can have masculine (a sense of order and logic). We all fall on a spectrum of both.

Toxic Masculinity is essentially the same as immature masculinity. Both have negative connotations, but really shouldn’t. In the interest of imposing order and safety, mature masculinity uses the least force possible to maintain order. A guy looks at your girl wrong in a bar, you give him the eye. If he stops, end of conflict. If he doesn’t, you talk to him. If it stops, end of conflict. You take him outside and beat him up as a last resort.

Arguably, we could get into semantics, and say that she is not your possession and should handle it herself, but save that for later.

Immature masculinity sucker punches the guy and then celebrates with his bros.

@BethB - thought I would hip you to me moving this to my thread.

I think I’ve missed the meaning of this sentence. Lol.

I view masculinity and femininity as complimentary opposites on the same spectrum. This doesn’t match how you describe it, but this is my view.

Neither masculinity nor femininity can be toxic.
Toxic actions are toxic.

But if I were to subscribe to the belief that toxic masculinity even exists, I would say that far more women are toxically masculine than men are, and that most men who are “toxically masculine” are actually just not masculine enough.

And every single woman that complains about toxic masculinity - is attracted only to men who are toxically masculine - by her own definition.

So really its just: if a man does things that a woman doesn’t like or doesn’t benefit her, its toxic masculinity.

Women have no business defining what manhood or masculinity means.

Good to read that your PSA has decreased. There are guys 45-65 years old, all around me being diagnosed with prostate cancer. Mine always tests high, but so far I have no tumors. Keep up the good work!

You’re not the only one. :face_with_monocle:

Thanks!

I have no filters for the most part. A year ago I was 3.35, in November 4.01, which is borderline fine, but the “velocity” was a concern. I mixed in more fiber, increased my steps, and lost a few pounds and it went down to 3.1 - low for my age.

I believe we are contemporaries.

My brother was an MD and he told me that if I lived long enough I would get both diabetes and prostate cancer. That it was just a fact. He also told me that I would likely die with it and not from it.

Thanks for responding!

It may not match how I describe it, but it is what I think. Just like narcissism and empaths are on the same spectrum, opposite ends of it.

This is an interesting take, one that I agree with. A very masculine person (sorry to go non binary on you) doesn’t need to perform, or to demonstrate masculinity. The Tao Te Ching says (I paraphrase), those that speak, don’t know. Those that know, don’t speak.

I guess that outs me as ignorant.

For what it is worth, as a Boomer (actually Jones Generation for those that follow), and somewhat self aware, I realize that I am no longer relevant. And that is okay with me - don’t care.

I did forget to cite a source that influenced me. It is the book King Warrior Magician Lover about the archetypes of modern society, heavily influenced by Joseph Campbell.

I appreciate you engaging.

Best!

You had responded to a comment regarding toxic masculinity so I tagged you.

“Hipping” in Boomer speak means informing you.

So I was letting you know that I had addressed toxic masculinity in a different thread.

Ohhhh! Gotcha. I thought that’s what you meant with the hip thing but wasn’t 100% if it was maybe a typo. Lol. Just now went back and reread your comment on toxic masculinity. Didn’t really catch the reference originally. Actually I was wondering where Andrew pulled it from. I’m not a huge fan of the phrase but I meant no offense. I think it is used too liberally and now just includes basic male characteristics. But in the way you used it, yes, I see your point. But now I’m wondering if there is a female equivalent? Are there women who display an excess of feminine characteristics that are perceived in a negative way?

I disagree.

Last thing. (Probably not actually. I have a very hard time keeping my mouth shut) I hate the whole Alpha Beta Sigma Delta whatever thing. I find it annoying. I don’t understand why everything (and everyone) has to be classified. Find a mate that suits your needs, that compliments you. Or don’t if you prefer solitude. But I think it’s weird to say that women are 100% attracted to this kind of man because he’s an alpha. It’s just not true. Just like men aren’t 100% attracted to a specific type of woman.
Sorry. My brain is a magic marker doodle right now and I’m probably not making much sense. Either way, I enjoy your input.
