I take it you’re really tall?

Apologies for not holding a shoe in either pic, but I’m about 20% bf right now with the majority in a pouch up front. Arms still pinch 10mm.
Now if you’re done staring at my junk, maybe you can throw some constructive comments my way, re: getting stronger. I’m doing Bill Starr 5x5 and microloading each week with the pink plates. I go heavy every workout, no breaks. Suggestions welcome.
Thanks for the support. I’m glad some real BB’ers chimed in here, that makes me lucky to have y’alls.

To be quite honest, i don’t see progress. I see a razor has entered into your life and even some tanning but that’s it. And I really don’t see a guy I’d say was 250 lbs.
I’d really consider throwing out the scale and not using it as a reference point for your goals for quite some time. I’d really suggest ADDING barbell movements into your life and I’m saying that because you’re physique doesn’t scream out that this guy is doing compound movements. In regards to the weight you are using, do a weight that will make you work and damn near fatigue at/near the last and final rep of your sets. Simply put I’d say stop pussy footing around the gym and do some damn work…
I see some progress but nothing to write home about. It looks like a half-decent start and not much more. You look a tad wider and you probably got thicker. You look like you do almost no pressing movements and/or direct arm work. YOur arms are the same size as they were in the before.
How tall are you exactly?
What kind of numbers are you throwing around in pushing movements? barbell row?
Do you even do any upper body work, dude?
[quote]tribunaldude wrote:

To think, most times it’s the other way around with people…
guys probably about 6’8". It’s hard to tell with no frame of reference. would also explain the numbers on the lifts.
That’s you at 250?
You must be like 7 feet tall.
From a BB point of view…start working the back and chest together maybe try a push/pull Mon,Wed,Fri 3 different exercises/sets for each part with 8-12 rep range with 2minute rests or just circuit it if you want to cut up a bit of your “pouch.” Work your arms and shoulders opposite days. Your legs aren’t scrawny not cut but not scrawny… try one day a week on legs superset hams and quads. For your back I’de hit up alot of pullups/rows/pulldowns Chest/DB press/pushups/incline hammer machine. ARMS heavy BB curls/dips/skull scrushers/hammer curls shoulders overhead press/front/side cable pulley/arnold presses. Legs leg press/squat/ham curl/glute ham raises
On leg day supplement with deadlifts/snatches
good luck

No. Just. No.
Don’t super-set Quads and Hamstrings either.
You’ve clearly figured something out if you’ve gained 70 pounds in 2 years. Continue to run with that.
You probably already know this, but if you continue to push your Squat, Deadlift, Bench Press, Close-Grip Bench Press, Military Press, Barbell Curl, and Rowing Numbers you will develop a balanced physique.
Continuing with 6000 calories seems a bit superfluous to me, but I really don’t know what the dietary needs of someone who is 250 should be. Maybe 6000 calories to you is like 3500 calories to me.
Just make sure you are:
(1) Eating Frequently. At least 5 meals a day. A protein shake with carb powder counts as a meal. This should help a LOT if you aren’t doing it already.
(2) Eating Good Food. Look at it this way: you first need to get in YOUR daily requirements for ground beef, tuna, vegetables, rice, and whatever bodybuilder foods you need. Once you’ve eaten everything you need to eat and you’ve made all 5 of your meals, then go ahead and eat what you want if you have any space left.
(3) Keep doing the 5X5 program if it’s working for you. Milk that bitch dry. Then move on to something else once things stagnate for about 2 weeks.
Pics are a bit misleading. Looks like you have made no progress, but there are a few things like being slightly closer in the first pic that are throwing it off. Also you are a very tall dude, so gaining 70 lbs for you will likley look like a 5-10 guy gaining 35 lbs. The arms to me look like they could have improved, but doing a few different shots would have helped. Double biceps for instance.
Also a side shot of the legs would have been good because you may have filled out from front to back in the legs and not able to notice on the front only, relaxed shot. Either way keep trucking, you are not fat and you have a very big dis-advantage being tall on the 3 main lifts, so don’t listen to the haters.
The good news is that it looks like you could get to 350 easily and look like a god damn monster without looking the least bit fat. Not sur if thats a goal but in another 2-3 years you could probably get there.

Gain ONE HUNDRED pounds in 3 years? That’s over 2.5 pounds every month.
No one, no matter how genetically gifted or how many awesome drugs they’re taking, could ever gain muscle like that.
If gaining weight was your only goal, and you already made your “newbie gains” that are a result of your body being totally unaccustomed to lifting weights, then a substantially unhealthy amount of that new weight would have to be fat if you just wanted to be 350 in 2011.
If you were kidding, sorry for not getting the joke.

OK, I’m confused by this comment. Isn’t he bigger in the pic where he is hairier/less tan??? Or am I nuts?
No you’re not. I think tiznut meant to say a razor “left his life” rather than entered his life.
The guy is on his way…but he;s got a long way left to go.
FOr his height, he MAY have to go all the way up to 350 over several years before he has enough size.

OK, though the tan comment also led me to believe that tiznut was saying he was tanner in the “after” photo. In any case, did I miss a comment where the OP said what his height is or are we just assuming he is tall? He doesn’t have any stats listed in his profile. I’m 6’2"-6’3" tall and much leaner, currently at 230lbs. Unless this guy is literally 6’10" or more I can’t see why he would need to put on another 100lbs before he could look like a bodybuilder. Not saying that he doesn’t need more size/less fat to acheive that look…but I think 350 is huge unless you are really over fat or very tall.
i want to see the before pics lol
Hey well its after day 1 so all the criticism is welcome!
Look, whether or not he’s under performing strength-wise, he was under performing even more when he was weaker. Is it good? No. I am 190 and I’m at those strength numbers. But I mean it’s still SOMETHING. It’s better than he was before, to at least a tiny degree. Now he has to cut and add strength. Step 2. Can we at least agree on that?

no, he does not need to fucking ‘cut’. The strength part, yes.

Why would he need to cut?

Yea, I didn’t say add 100lbs of MUSCLE, I said get to 350. If he is as tall as I think he is, Adding 100 lbs would not be hard at all. maybe 70-80 lbs of it could be muscle and yes he would gain some fat as well, thats what happens when you are on a bulk. Hell even if it’s 50-50 fat muscle, it’s still gonna be 50 more pounds of muscle than he had before and he can diet off the fat and be 300 lbs and pretty lean.

Guess my eyes are messed up because I do see a difference, and he has to be fairly tall to be only be 250, atleast 6’3-6’4.
You may have to use more weight than a 5x5 routine would demand. Considering you’ve been lifting your already condition for the first few weeks of a 5x5 so either start off with your 5 rep max which will make the program stall quicker, or go even heavier every few weeks to push yourself into more growth. It’s not that the 5x5 won’t work but when you first start the routine your using a relatively light weight for 5 reps which would mean a month or so of wasting time not growing.
WTF? cut down to what?
First question: When do we cut?
Answer: You cut when:
A. you have enough size to show off under the blanket when it comes off.
B. You overdid/fucked up the bulk and ended up obese.
C. You gained too much fat for your (personal) level of comfort and want to shed it and get back on the ladder, at the same time realizing fully well that ending the mass gaining phase for such a random reason may jeopardize future size/strength gains.
D. You gained some small amount of muscle but too much fat, are still not obese but ended up skinny fat - and have to face the realization that you do not have the mindset to FORCE progress i.e. size and strength gains on a continual basis, ergo, bulking up may not be a great idea for you.
Second question, how much size do you need to stand out/gain a certain look:
Answer: depends. your height, attachments, limb lengths, skeletal proportions, muscle bellies, etc etc etc.
How simple is it for you fellows to gain quality mass that you think about cutting down every once in a while just to feel cute again?
