2025: New Year, New You! 🤮

Yep, I don’t like that expression much either. Mainly because new year’s resolutions are statistically short-lived for most people, and if something is important to you, why wait for a certain date on the calendar? Smells like procrastination.

But…

It might be fun to throw any specific goals you have into this thread. Then, we’ll bump this thread in a year and see how we did.

It doesn’t have to be a traditional resolution. It could be a new challenge. Doesn’t even need to be fitness related. The key is specificity. Don’t be too general.

So, what are you going to accomplish or work on in 2025?

I’m going to make a starter for sourdough and begin using it to make some awesome bread & pizzas.

I want to make those fancy artisinal loafs like you see on social media.

Start another garden. I got a nice one going last year, and if I stay up on it the beds are easier to maintain. The quality and flavor of the homegrown herbs & stuff is incomparable to store bought.

I would like to use my time more productively. I already know that in practice this means sticking more firmly to my reasonable schedule and limiting the amount of time I spend on my phone and on the Interwebs. In the New Year, I will do a better job of these two items.

If you change your goal to learning to play death metal on the piano, perhaps the two of you could collaborate…

Or not.

That double base magic is hard to beat

Against the grain opinion: New Year’s resolutions are bullshit because a calendar date isn’t a real impetus.

If it mattered, you’d already be doing it. Find the real reason you want something instead of lying to yourself because it’s January 1st.

Picking up the guitar again after almost 40 years (!).

Goal for 2025 is to practice for an hour a day at least five days a week. If I meet my 250-hour target, then this will be waiting for me this time next year.

I want to transition my career from being a private chef to being a culinary instructor. So any teachers here, I’m listening on how to get your foot in the door.

I want to write another book.

I want to spend a week in the woods alone (probably won’t happen.)

I want to seduce my wife every week.

I find it hard to get an hour/day in. I can usually find 20-30min.
Those Ibanez AC are nice. My local GC has a used one i stop in and play now and again. I’m a Gretsch guy though for semi hollow. Love the Broad’Tron PU’s and there neck’s are nice and thin.

I’m probably being a little ambitious. I’ve got a pretty flexible schedule/lifestyle (work from home, no kids, no pets) which will help. Also my wife spends an hour a day writing (short fiction, plays) after work, so I’d sync my practice schedule with hers.

Gretsch makes great guitars. I remember Brian Setzer playing one in the 80s. I’m looking forward to trying one or two at my local GC before making a final decision.

The band name can be Crayon Munchers

It’s interesting how many of us are guitar players.

I want a band name.

In fitness goals…

  • 315 bench
  • 300 lb. total weighted pull up (bodyweight + added weight)
  • more arm mass since I’ve historically trended toward torso dominance…+1" on my arms would be a nice bonus for 2025 but I’ll honestly take what I can get.

In other goals, a bunch of work put into job/career.
