I was talking to a friend about the latest Olympia, and we agreed that while Kai was seen as the only guy who could possibly dethrone Phil, that ship has pretty much sailed. Kai either isn’t unwilling, or is unable to bring a physique that rivals Phil in the areas that Phil is strong in. We all know Kai is larger overall, but his lack of similar crispness, and just bad posing (I don’t mean his silly routines, but how he presents his mandatories isn’t doing him any favors) have led many people to just expect the same placings each year.
As photos show, Heath hasn’t been as good each successive year in terms of his conditioning (check his quads!) If a competitor can only improve so much, then at a certain point, it’s a matter of hanging on as long as you can. This is where, in my opinion, Rhoden is going to get his chance. I maintain that in terms of size, shape and symmetry, he is the best, “complete” package up there in the top spots. If Phil has stopped improving, certainly Rhoden hasn’t, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw the judges start placing him above Kai in the not too distant future.

Yeah Rhoden is probably the guy who can do it the soonest. His conditioning left something to be desired though and he really just lacked the dense look the other top 6 have. His muscles are just very “inflated” looking.
I honestly am having a harder time backing Kai after his showing this year. The antics were annoying, and his posing is horrendous, the guy needs to quit trying so hard to set himself apart with his posing and just hit his mandatories the way he’s supposed to. Makes me question how bad he really wants it.

IMO Kai stopped improving years ago. Phil’s best was 2011. Rhoden is the only one I can honestly say to myself that he may still have a few notches left to tighten his belt.
Also as we all know, size alone doesn’t win, just look at Ramy. Besides, Kai’s had the size advantage compared to Phil every single year and it doesn’t seem to be helping him very much. Especially if you consider shape. Kai’s a big big dude, no doubt, but as much as I generally like his physique, it’s not a pretty one the way Phils, or even Rhoden’s is. If Rhoden has better lines, better conditioning, and comparable, if not even a little less size, I wouldn’t be surprised.
From that single photo Kai looks better, but it sort of looks like the Kai photo that was used may have been slightly enlarged.
I thought phil looked better the second night for sure. It was too close between him and Kai to say that Kai really deserved the top spot. And his poor choices with his posing certainly didnt help. Phil knew how to highlight his strengths, Kai didnt.
Edit: upon giving that photo more than a glance, obviously Kai’s picture is significantly enlarged compared to Phils. So all that picture really tells me is that Kai is broader, which we already knew.
lol, all i did was copy and paste from george farrah, kai obviously looks a million times better even if it was enlarged or fucking not. you know that too since you got all defensive.
The only pics that should be used to debate are comparison pics. Copy and pasted individual pics can be deceiving.
One thing I’ve noticed is that whenever Phil Heath hits hands together most muscular pose, Kai Greene holds his pose for shorter time as if to say he’s admitted defeat.

I didn’t get defensive. Im not a phil heath fan… I just don’t feel that posting a pic of phil next to a 7ft tall kai for the sake of comparison is fair or accurate

Who do you guys think won each pose?

Were you being selective with your photo selection here? In pretty much all of those, Kai looks better.
Rhoden from the rear is so far behind Phil and especially Kai.

yes you’re right, honestly I just glanced at it and figured i’d post it here, but regardless you can’t deny phil just looks narrow and distended as hell. Probably just a picture taken at the right time but still… this is the only thing i don’t like about bodybuilding, there is never an absolute definitive answer, as there is with powerlifting or something like that, you lift it or you don’t, bodybuilding a lot of the times especially with such close competition is dependent on the judges opinions and it definitely seems like the champ is always going to have a slight edge just by being the reigning champ.

Wow! Perfect, that is exactly what you need to compare these guys. I notice that Phil has better arms and chest. Kai has better legs. Their backs are both incredible with Kai having certain elements superior but Phil also having certain things like shoulders better.
Still can’t get over Phil winning with such a crappy belly.
Rhoden has great conditioning but his back and legs are far behind.
