You are close… If we are talking about how they are playing this season and who I would want on my team the most if I had to win a game next week (and I had a decent team),
1.Rodgers
2.Brady
3.Luck
4.Manning
5.Brees
6.Rivers (if he’s healthy)
7.Roethlisberger
8.Ryan
9.Stafford
10.Eli
Russell Wilson is close. Romo, Flacco, Alex Smith, possibly Andy Dalton, and even Jay Cutler are all basically the same QB, with Flacco being the best of that bunch. They are QB’s that are good enough to win, if they have a great running game and line and aren’t asked to do too much. But as soon as you ask them to shoulder the load they throw the game away (Romo and Cutler) or just cant get it done (Smith and Dalton).
I don’t know what to think about Cam Newton. And Kap is not even anywhere around this discussion.

I’ll give you Brees this year, I had to throw in some past history to get that one but I couldn’t bring myself to put him any lower. If I was trying to win a game next week he would probably still be in my top 5. And Eli has played well when his team doesn’t play like dogshit around him. But I will give you that was probably a reach and one of the guys in that list below him Flacco, Romo, or Wilson should probably be there.

Jaws, Phil Simms, and Danny Kanell (college) are the ones that will really make me want to put my foot through the TV.
No one and I mean no one irritates me like Chris Collinsworthless. Except Bob Costas, fuck that guy.

One name on that list has a shot at back-to-back rings. And I’m super happy he’s playing for the team I root for.
I think everyone on that list is capable of winning a superbowl, and certainly Russel Wilson is a very solid guy. But his most important skill from what I’ve seen of him is he doesn’t throw the game away. He has an elite defense, and a power running game, and he’s smart enough not to get in their way. That makes him a perfect fit for that team. But (imo)you could put a guy like Ryan or Brees on that team, and they’d be unbeatable.

It’s pretty good except I wouldn’t put Luck up there yet. He still throws a lot of picks, but in a few years he will probably be up there. I would put Brees in the first category. He has had a down year this year, but he has been stellar before that.
He might not be elite as a pick one QB to win one game kind of guy yet, but I don’t think there is another quarterback in the NFL (except maybe Rodgers) you would want to be your franchise today and moving forward. He’s gonna keep the Colts a contender for the next 2 decades. This year he’s on pace to throw for 5000 yards, he attempts over 40 passes a game and averages 1 interception, and he’s only going to get better. He’s a good sportsman, and he’s solid enough to take hits too.

I hope all the other GMs see it the same way so we can afford to keep him. One thing he did this year was keep them in games and even won games when they were decimated by injury. The reason they are in a playoff run right now is basically Wilson’s play mid season when they were not the superpower they are when healthy. There are other great QBs out there–maybe better ones–but he has some very unique and special qualities.
When you consider how hard it is to find a winning quarterback I don’t think they can afford NOT to keep him. He’s gonna cost them 15-20 million a season, and he’ll be worth every penny. Let’s face it, even a “decent” NFL quarterback is elite in the grand scheme of things, and like you say he does have some special talents. Without him the Hawks are in a similar situation to the Rams / Bills / etc… I just don’t see him as a world beater the way that Rodgers is, or as the kind of guy who could take a mediocre team and carry them kicking and screaming into the play offs. Not YET at least.

I can’t figure out the criteria. Stafford is 9, but his numbers are ,as far as I can remember, better than Rivers, Ryan, and Luck while none of them have won a super bowl. I’d put all of them in the same category (including Romo especially since all of them have lost playoff games or haven’t made it at all).
To me the categories should be:
Tier 1 - Elite: (Must have a Super Bowl win): Brady, Rodgers, Manning,P., Brees
Tier 2 - Great w/ a Super Bowl win: Flacco, Rothlisberger (possibly Elite), Manning, E.
Tier 3 - Great w/out a Super Bowl win: Ryan, Luck, Rivers, Romo
Tier 4 - Good w/ Super Bowl: Wilson
Tier 5 - Good w/out Super Bowl: Smith, Dalton, Palmer, Newton,
Tier 6 - Average: Kapernick, Bortles, Bradford, FitzPatrick, RGIII, Bortles,
Tier 7 - Bad: Sanchez, Manziel (at least for now), Hoyer, Smith, G.,
*I spelled half these names wrong I’m sure and missed a number of QBs.

Na, my list was a little more subjective. Just a “if you told me my life depended on winning a game next week, which QB would I take if I was given someone like the Bills for my team (solid but really just missing a QB)”. That was my criteria. If you told Romo that the results of a game were life or death, he would stand as good of a chance of ending up with the football inserted sideways up his ass as he would winning.
Edit: Also, from probably 6 own down to probably 12 or 13 is pretty debatable, with Brees also starting to slide away from the top 5 and into that debatable mix.

Hard to argue with that. I was being a little more subjective in a how good does the rest of the team need to be, and who do you want as your franchise today moving forward sort of way (honestly I would have ranked Brady / Manning lower if not for the fact that they’re football royalty). It’s not like there is a huge gap between tier 3, and tier 1 from one game to the next though. That game last year between the Broncos and the Cowboys where Romo tossed for like 500 yards (and than got lynched for throwing a pick that lost the game despite being the only reason Dallas even had a chance) is testament to that. Sure do like to see Eli ranked higher too. Those 2 super bowl wins were both awesome.
I would happily rank Eli higher if he didn’t have some just God awful years.
