2012 Comp Season

Why thank you MJ. Seein how 2 of my older brothers were jarheads and a whole bunch of assorted nephews are now I’m use to the ribbing. I do speak good monosyllable, though. Say good night to Chesty for me.
Thanks Schmidt and Null. Sometimes I fall in with a bad crowd and they lead me astray. Fun to watch the 20 somethings fall out as the weight goes up, though. I was a lot more judicious tonight.

that’s an awesome bench you got go’n on there Hel. if you hadn’t done three bench workouts in one right before attempting it, i’m sure you would’ve gotten it:)
Thanks. Didn’t mean to do that many lifts but everytime one weight would go up it was, “throw another 10 on”. Maybe I’ll learn better when I grow up. Thanks for stopping in.

Hel, I just wanted to tell you, once, that you have really been an inspiration for me. I really appreciate everything you’ve said (that I got around to reading) in your posts here.

Thanks.

Harry-
I agree with your comments about my scot technique…not much wrap and separation in the middle. I need to work on that among several other things. I am throwing at the Rocky Mountain Masters Games at CSU in Fort Collins, CO Saturday. Hopefully, it will all come together.

Welcome back Elaikases. Good to hear from you again.

Throw far ch.

Harry, thanks for the information about your throwing technique. This statement “Low and slow at first works best for me and setting up an high to low pattern on the weight.” has been especially helpful. Every time my WFD screws up, I just have to remember this and immediately the throws get easier and farther.

Snatches, now i’m thinking I might want to work them in with a DB instead of the KB. Not sure where I will put them in though.

Weekend recap/Stream of Consciousness post
Friday, straight to gym after work
Legs, back

Friday night, lights baby, High School football, nephew, middle linebacker, 11th grade, 2 unassisted sacks, 37-6 win, (yeah, bragging). Only about 40 or so family members in stands.

Late friday night
Paid visit to Bar-b-quers. Had a sit down and swapped some lies.

Saturday
Work - Father and son on my route in the front yard playing pitch, breakin in the boys new glove. Yeah, Norman Rockwell moment. I’m a sentimental sucker.

After work - throws

Self, brothers, assorted nephews, nieces, in laws, boy friends/girls friends took a bunch of friends to the Bar-B-que, Johnny, Jim, Jack, and Bud (nod to George T and SteelyD). Ate lots of meat and slaw and drank to excess.

This morning - headed straight to the river. Lolled in the water with the dogs more than swam. Big breakfast, nap, bigger lunch, nsp, cooking chicken wings now.

Back to gym tomorrow, got to work out a schedule, HG this coming Saturday.

Sounds like a pretty nice life!

You know Ms Snap, it really is.

Going back to:

Ready for Saturday, get to see a lot of old friends

Have some fun at the Games Harry. I bet youre going to come home with another sword or 3

what are your thoughts on the sheaf and the caber? those 2 I no-scored on at the games last weekend. I got something to use for a caber today, only 12’ long but about 100 lbs. should really help with the pick and balance, which is where I get whupped by the caber last time.

First, you find some nice, helpful, other competitors like Justin (6’10, 350+) shown here giving me meaningful feedback, “Damn Harry, you suck in the sheaf.” He’ll be there Saturday.
One, look at your hands. I kept missing the damn hold because I was looking up like I was on the line in football. Squeeze and pop up, You can’t be tentative about it. Next, once you get your hands under the caber, stick you ass straight out and back up to counteract the weight.
Sheaf, we both sucketh at. Only event where my left rear delt really affects my performance. Don’t look up at the bar when you’re releasing. I have found a quick down, straight up motion, rather than a smooth arc, works best. Gives that little pop to get it off the forks. Metal rod, I’ve got a wreaking bar out back, or use a weight bar to work on the strength. Most feed or seed stores sell old burlap bags. Manila rope, anything heavy on the inside, stitch it up with twine. Doesn’t have to be pretty for practice.
Thanks Wilson, it kinda of a cliche everyone uses but at this once I really don’t care where I place. Know everyone coming, all are really close, so it’s gonna be a good time. Cookout after, Tree’s wife’s driving and she don’t drink. Large men in skirts throwing heavy shit, cooking meat, and drinking. Does life get any better?

have a drink or three for me Harry! maybe you’ll do better at the sheaf if you start drinking ahead of time?

(Just seein if you’re payin attention).

Keep remembering stuff. Just to motivate you. 90-94 year old class at the meet Saturday, 4 competitors in the shot.
Congrats on the medal score.

If I were to try to train like that I’m afraid my wife would be paying much closer attention

Probably would not live long enough to make the 90-94 year old class.
