Your version of an Upper day looks pretty freaking hard.

I hate the week before a meet, Joe. Want to rest up and not do to much but that’s boring as hell.
Yesterday evening was suppose to be throws. Turned into a 12 hour work day and the sun was going down when I got off work. Pool was closed so I did light legs/back.

Impressive amount of training you do. Walk several miles a day, swim, throw and lift. Your joints ever give you any trouble? You never complain about any aches and pains.

No real joint pain, Steve. I get some DOMS but that’s not really pain, that’s the reward. I get more stiffness than anything else but can work that out once I get moving.

Really well ran meet, had a great time, saw lots of old friends, made some new ones. One of the “old” friends moved into my age group and kicked my ass in the Discus and the javelin. Javelin lose was to be expected, so was the discus, but I can a last hope for revenge there.

Results:

Shot = 1st
Discus = 2nd
Javelin = 3rd (big surprise!) !st and 2nd place winners threw great. Not so much the rest of the field which let me sneak into the bronze.

I am interested in how you use weights to enhance your athletic ability. Your training goals seem to cross a wide spectrum, Highland games, Olympic throws,swimming quite impressive. Good on you man.

Haven’t thrown the javelin in years but there’s an annual weight pentathalon meet in NC every year I’m thinking of hitting.
TheBruce, Once you know the proper technique strength is pretty essential to the throws. More so in the HG throws as the weights are significantly heavier than athletics. Both require an explosive application of force so a lot of lifting for the throws is heavy and explosive, e.g., cleans, snatchs, high pulls. I’m sure there’s a whole lifting protocol for swimmers I just swim.
