Unfortunately, the current situation is doing a lot of bad things to good people. I’m sure your coworkers are honest, hard-working folks, but that can’t stop them from being thrown onto the street. And of course management takes advantage of it.

I was doing a good job for FedEx, but they kicked me out and replaced me with a gal who didn’t even have the basic skills. That was back in March, and after months of resumes/applications/interviews blah blah blah I could only land a teaching job for one day a week. It starts next year in a place almost 200 mi away and the coordinator has hinted that the school might cancel it because so few students have signed up.

Yes, we really are in a recession (polite word for depression). The jobs just aren’t there, no matter how qualified you are. We’re all in a funny position because things haven’t been this bad since the Great Depression. Sorry for the rant, but I’m touchy on this.

Good to see you back Harry, and that you didn’t let yourself go. Funny how you can slip to the left when there is no other sane way. We are a union of sorts here on the board, disfunctional but still a union.

Here here Cav.We Historically we will look on this in 20 years, as a second great depression.

Those of pretending to know a little about economics have been referring to this as “The Minor Depression” for a little over a year. not the great depression because we don’t have true 25% unemployment. But still, like it or not, its a depression.

I can’t tell you more about this, or they will change the secret handshake and I won’t be in the club anymore.

“John, there’s someone out front!” After I rang the doorbell.
“Well, turn on the porch light, mom.” John, I assumed.
“Just the mailman, ma’mm.” Me, talking to a closed door.
“He’s got something in his arms, John. I think he’s stealing something off the porch!” Yeah, and I ring the door bell to assure a stealthy get away.
“Mailman, ma’am! Package for you.” Me, very loudly.
“It’s only the mailman, mom.” John, finally opening the door.
“Why’s he out there after dark?” Mom.
“It’s easier to steal stuff off the porch after dark, mom”. John, with a shit eatin grin.
I gave him the package and left.

I officially crossed over to wimpdom at 2145 on 16 Dec 2011. The long hours and extra walking finally made me say “f**k it” and skip the squats." The extra hours, accumulated mileage and extra stairs, made the thought of doing legs just too much. More the thought of doing legs and having to walk all day the next day humbled me. Went home to a hot bath and a few medicinal guiness.
