Shame can be a great motivator.

I very rarely miss workouts because of the crushing guilt I feel afterwards which means I end up not being able to enjoy the time I took off anyway!

Nothing shameful about your weights though. A 265 lb strict press is awesome.

Very long week. We got all the packages and letters delivered last night though. The Post Office has a lot of problems but when it gets down to it the carriers usually get the job done.
Left work and went sraight to the gym. Left there so late Santa was comin in the gym as I was going out. Dude should seriously work on the abz.
Eatin chicken wings in bed, sippin on Guinness Black Lager, watchin 1951 version of Scrooge when another Christmas arrived. Boys called, family from PI send texts, alls good in the world.
Hit the gym this morning, did some chest but mainly had coffee and Krispy Kreme donuts with the owner. Did lay in the sauna for a good sweat. Off to visit relatives soon and gorge but had to stop by and wish all of you a MERRY CHRISTMAS. Hope everyone has a great and safe day.

Thanks all. Really miss talking (typing) with yawl. Already gettin invites to some highland games and have 5 T&F meets I’m already commited to competing in. Toying, playing, rolling over, the idea of trying to fit in the US Highland championships this year in Greenville, SC. Good news, they go by 5 year increments so I wouldn’t have to compete against any 40 year olds (won’t use the Y word.) The other news is only 2 guys have signed up so far in my class. 1 has won the US championships several times and the other holds the world record in the sheaf and is near WR in a couple of other events. Lot more will be signing up soon. Sounds almost too fun to pass on.

I need to jump more. I’m convinced the key to our diminishing throwing distance as we age is not so much strength but the ability to move the implements explosively (F=MA, Mr Newton’s 2nd law if I remember correctly). My legs are still strong but my ability to jump high now officially sucks. Lack of use, lack of practice. lack of fast twitch?. So, I do 20 vertical jumps every other day before work. Trying to explode rather than just move upward slowly. We’ll see if it works.

I got an instructional DVD done by one of the local Highland clubs (Eastern Idaho Scottish Games) that they did with a local Pro named Ryan Stewart. Since this is the first real instruction that I’ve received, I can see many many things that I was doing wrong - and therefore many things I can do to be farther away from where they land. I am really hoping to throw and judge alot this year. Judging is a fun way to make gas money, get lunch and a free shirt, and find new people to drink whiskey with. We’ll see how this hip gets along.

Harry, Mitt wasn’t my first choice but I’m not unhappy he won. I’d take any of the GOP candidates over Obama.

Its a sign of an educated and refined gentleman when he uses Guiness as his recovery method.

Hadn’t tried the jumps after the lifts before, Kevin. Gave it a try today. Oh, yeah. Don’t know if it’ll improve my jumps but Tree, Andy, and gym owner Mike thought it worthy of rolling on the floor and laughing.

Dude, I pretty much like the whole line of Guiness. First time I had though, was at a pub in Alconbury, UK and they served it room temp. Wasn’t real fond of it that way.

Came home tonight to an email inviting me to 2 indoor T&F meets at universtity of the South, Sewanee. Both next month. Would mean only throwing the shot and haven’t thrown this year. Haven’t done an indoor meet since back in the day so I’m thinking about it.
