Well, I tried your clean & press challenge this evening. Got weight up to 75#. Had to stop after 10 reps or risk aneurysm. Straining, shoving, sweating, gasping, yelling. Hyperventilated for a minute or 2, then did another 10 reps. Grunting, pushing, screaming, but got 20 done eventually.
Saturday, masters division, 1st. Prs in open stone, braemar stone, heavy hammer 22#, 28# and 42# weight for distance. Tied my best weight over bar and sheaf. Turned a 12:30 with a 18’, 110# caber. Was waiting for some pix from another competitor but they haven’t come thru yet. Great meet, award 1st - 3rd place medals in all the throws. Got bunch of bling and another dagger.
Tuesday night, had to try.
1-10, hang clean and pretty much mil press
11-14, touch and go from ground, knee bend and press
*15-18, from floor clean, pause at shoulders, push/press
19-20, floor, pause, clean, pause, big dip and press. Move hand placement in slightly on last 5 for stronger shoulder placement
Not as hard as I thought it’d be but not easy by any means. Played hell with the rest of my workout. I think all the cleans and hang cleans I do gave me a difinite advantage over some of the more bodybuilder types.
I was extremely disappointed by the unsportsmanly conduct of some of the observers. Age references are one thing but getting the sweet little zumba instructor to “stretch” directly in front of me could have cause a heart condition.
Today, having lasted 56 years with them, I lost my remaining 3 wisdom teeth to my dentist, Abdullah the butcher. Couple been cracked for a while so I waited til after all my comps were over to get them pulled. Yummy beef brooth and jello for lunch and dinner. Haven’t needed any yet but they gave me Lorcet Plus for pain. May take one for bed.
So, off work for a couple of days. Do plan on hitting the gym tomorrow and doing something light. Drawing up my goals for next year and working out some different work outs. Well. time for some more Lime jello. Yum, yum.

This morning swam a nice, easy 2000m. Working on a new caber training device using 4x4s, bolts, joints, cables, all kindsof good stuff. Mike Neese gave me the idea. Post some pix when this beast is finished. Wife’s already giving me the “what are you doing now” look.

Buffalo, only swim in a pool when it gets real cold out and for competition. Also when a certain college swimming coach talks me into it. Usually it’s the Tennessee or Flint River. My first swimming competition ever was this year. Did the 500 free and 200 breaststroke. Loved it.

Sorry I’ve beem MIA, very, very busy.
First, the lifting. May have developed a new program called “Lift or Sleep”. I’ve been running on about 6 hours sleep a night for the past month. Decided to just hit the big lifts. Work outs have been:
Bench and CGB
Clean/press (from hang one work out, floor the next) and hammer curls
Squat and deadlift
that’s it. All 5 x 5
Set goals of 335 5x5 Bench
435 5x5 squat
515 5x5 dead
235 5x5 c/p from hang
Nothing spectacular but kept me focused. Hit them all this week so I’ll up them. Was swimming at night but since it’s turning too cold for the river gonna have to hit the indoor pool on Sundays. No throwing but I’ve been trying to work on some improvements in my form.
Caution! Whining ahead. Days have been may 10 to 12 hrs and 6 a week. Next couple of weeks will be more so with Christmas approaching. Whole lot of people afraid of losing their jobs and management trying to take advantage of it. Spending a lot of time working with the union and members. Funny position for me to be in as I’m generally pretty much to the right politically and never been pro-union. C’est la vie.
As this forum pretty much operates on reciprocity and I haven’t had time to get to others threads haven’t posted to mine. Gonna try and comandeer the wife’s laptop so I can read/post in bed at night.
