You and that damn Smith Machine. I bet if everyone raved about it, you wouldn’t touch it with a 50’ caber thingy. Whatever floats your boat, I guess, at least it looks like the damn thing is working for you. Great work in here.
Sorry bout that, cap’n. I’ll just get back in formation with the rest. Thanks for the input.
You know I was just teasing.
And they say, “You don’t tug on Superman’s cape,

You don’t pull the mask off that ol’ Lone Ranger
And you don’t mess around with Mr. hel320’s Smith Machine.”

That brought back good memories.

Smith machines are also great for squatting when you have rotator cuff issues that interfere with your ability to hold the bar correctly.

I like them, other purposes aside

Squats are going up, Carl, and I’m getting in a lot of shot throwing, mainly working the power position. Going through my annual bout of angst, rotate, glide, skoot, bowl it, etc. Leg strength is taking off and I’m going to try and do a period of low reps, probably doubles, on all the big lifts.

Lifted, swam, threw

Sounds encouraging with the leg strength going up. When I look back I find a rough correlation, squats(kilos)/shot(meters) is usually about 8.75. This is taking best marks in training for each. Ratios will be different from person to person, but my theory is that it stays fairly constant for each individual thrower.

Since I seem to have a problem communicating lately I’ll just stick with the Joe Friday version for a while:

Great work in here. Your incline bench seems to be as strong as your bench. Mine is about 25% weaker. Do you think this is from throwing-specific training?

Harry - the poor souls just don’t understand southern and you don’t understand anything but southern. So just keep being your usual witty self and keep us laughing anyway.

I, of course, understand both southern and northern having grown up a hair south of the Mason-Dixon line…

Lots of arguments in the throwing world as to the benefit of the bench on throwing, Jack. Most agree though that the incline really helps the shot. And truth be told, makes the upper pecs look good.
Thanks soldog, I seem to be on a roll lately. Either I’m being too much of a wise ass or everyone’s getting thin skinned, myself included. Maybe all us men are going through andropause. Maybe I’m just old and cranky.

After work, gym deserted, everyone home watching either Auburn vs LSU or getting ready for Ala vs Tenn.

That’s an impressive amount of volume there, especially since it includes the Track&Field practice and swimming. I’d be worn out before supper.

Harry, if you get any better at the o-lifts, I’m going to start insisting that you do some competitions. Ron Summers needs someone pushing him. This year he won nationals with a 104 snatch (~229) and a 126 C&J (~277). Only problems is you might be a weight class below him.

Thats some really REALLY big C&J Harry… Your training is really going strong. As far as I am concerned, be a wise ass as much as you want. Its cooling off up here, I wish I was down there with you guys and the warmer weather.

You must have to eat a ton to keep up with all that massive training.

yeah, but clan mcBubba knows how to throw on the feedbag. That’s why I want to move out and live in Harry’s shed.

Ag, Keeping the thought that I get to eat supper after the workout helps.
Speaking of eating Joe, I’ve really inreased the amount I’m eating, mainly by eating lunch. Taking a pound of meat, chicken or beef, stir fried with veggies, usually broccoli, green oinons, green beans, for lunch everyday. Have to eat it cold but I keep a bottle of tobasco in the truck now. Also, just cause I like the taste better than water, I’m drinking 24oz of Surge Recovery during my workout instead of after. Make it with ice and water, the choclate flavor.
Thanks Carl but til I find somewhere with bumper plates I’m gonna cut back on the heavy clean stuff. Putting the weights down isn’t doing my traps and shoulders a lot of good. Ive tried cleaning, pressing, then walking the weights into the squat rake but I think that’s kinda aa accident waiting to happen.
Thanks Wilson.
John, I finally read Dan Johns “Never Let Go”. Fun, good read. Lot of truths in it.

After work yesterday

Chest and Tris

Bench
135,225wu
315x8x3

Inclines
225x12x3

Cgb
225x10x3

That was all I had time for. Had to get downtown to the Vets home. Planning our Veterans Day festivities. Their show of appreciation for my efforts is truly heart warming, “Jesus, Chief, you ain’t cooking anything are you? Tasted like dog shit last time. How can you screw up SOS?”
That’s all the graditude one needs.

Reading through this I was thinking the same thing. It’s no wonder you’re putting on size again with training like this. You must be eating an enormous amounts of food.

Hope all is well, Harry, with you and yours. If any of the gang sees this, the same for you too!

i’ve been meaning to get that book. I bought tommy kono’s book on olympic lifting cuz dan recommended it, but I haven’t bought dan’s book yet. guess i’ll have to stop being so scottish and get it

the perfect lunch. 1 lb of meat with tabasco. heaven in a bowl

Front squats, then regular squats in the same workout = crazy haha. Nice lifting. I feel like eating a ton of food, just from reading your workouts.

Heavy squats and deads in the same day. Rule Breaker.
