So I’m really bumping up against my weight limit. I should be okay for the next meet. But I think I’m going to do a short PSMF starting about a week after this meet and drop 8-10lbs quick.

It’s either that or move up a weight class.
I’m dead center between two weight limits - I’m trying to decide if I should try to diet down a class, or add a few to maximize the class I’m in now.
If it we’re me I’d like to float 5-7 pounds below my weight class limit. That way I wouldn’t have to worry about watching what I eat just to make weight.

What sucks is that food makes me stronger but I feel better the lighter I am BUT I feel better about my lifting the bigger I am.

That’s pretty fucked up.
My normal weight is between 208-210. If I understand it corectly, the weight class limits are 198 and 220.

I’m going to enter my first competition next year, so I guess I have some time to decide.

I’m kind of weak and shit at powerlifting so take this for what it’s worth but the 220 class seems to have some strong mofo’s in it from what I’ve seen.

especially if you are talking APF/SPF/UPA/IPA type feds with 24 hour weigh in. You get a lot of crazy dudes who will cut from 240 to 250ish even to make 220. Then slap it back on overnight.

Valid points. I have no idea what kind of fed I’ll be in, I haven’t done much looking into it yet.

I have no expectation of winning anything - I just want to try competing - but I don’t want to be humiliated either.

Pause bench

5x135
3x185
1x225
1x245
0x255* fuck
1x245
1x225
1x225
1x225

I want 260 for the meet but I NEED 255 and this was not the result I was looking for today.

1x225

1x245

0x255

legs look a little shaky, not sure if benching on your toes is right for you? I finally found a more stable set up with better leg drive going flat footed. might give you a couple of more pounds

Interesting you mention that because I tried benching on my toes the other day and found I could hold a much better arch that way. But I don’t know in terms of leg drive and stability.

I definitely get a bigger arch with legs back and on toes, but my legs, or one of them shakes uncontrollably, so I bench flat foot and really push thru my hams and heels.

Think Joe needs to try to crack a walnut with his a$$ when benching, that 's helped with a training partner learning what keeping tight feels like.

Another thing to try, right before handoff, have someone try to push you off the bench (push you with their leg-nothing too dramatic), if you’re tight, you really shouldn’t move much.

how much do you weigh Joe. My thoughts on body weight are that you should be the body weight you want in life and not worry about it in the iron game unless you are a pro. You have to be happy in life to be happy everywhere else. On the same note I do not give a shit what the scale says as long as I think I look good and healthy it could say that I weight 240 lbs.

As far as the weight that I lift at the meet I am hoping to keep it a competition against myself to continuously be better than the last time. I do not see it as a competition against the other competitors as they may be farther along or newer in there game. Power lifting is very much a individual sport I plan on keeping it that way

Ass come dangerously close to coming off the bench. I would really like to hit 265 at the meet.

This is from 5-16-2011 I am thinking that all the heavy singles are not the best way for you gain strength. I know that you have a meet coming up soon but I think you may need to reset at a lower weight and start a new cycle so that you can recover. You may be beating yourself down and need a deload or reset of 20% below where you are and work your way up. Just a thought my man

Oh you are right. Right after the meet I’m resetting my 5/3/1 numbers for bench. The issue I’ve found is that I have to train for the pause before a meet or I blow the commands.

If Wendler allows it, get yourself some bands.

Squats

8x135
5x185
3x225
1x275
1x305
1x330*HIGH

Walk Outs

365- 40 seconds

405- 40 seconds

Squats again

1x330*HIGH

Sorry about the POV the camera is at a low angle so the squats look higher than they are but the 330 is high. I chopped them for no reason other than I think the weight got in my head. Got ticked off after walk outs and tried 330 again still wussed out. Fuck. The 305 would have been a +5lb over my last meet so theres a tiny ass silver lining.

Walk out video for Pete.

1x275

1x305

1x330

365 Walk Out for Pete

1x330 second attempt

Joe, those are great buns.

I think it’s possible that the focus is going to be on the girl in the red shorts. Duh.

Wow, I am changing my gym membership starting tomorrow! Wait, Joe were you in video?

Your 275 looked solid
nice work Joe.

god bless you for changing the camera angle

Thanks. I feel good about getting the 305 down as well. Not so sure how much more though.

Interestingly enough she annoys the crap out of me.

But Pete mention my videos never capture the grad students so I thought I’d oblige.

is that was grad students look like? and all the while I always thought community college had all the lookers.
