2011 SPF Worlds Training Log

Joe for win on 320!!! Nice work brother…time to throw a 405 walkout in there!! great work.

your second grip is where i bench at I tuck my elbows at the bottom and rotate them out on the way up dave tate talks about this in his bench press how to videos

Fabulous on on the 320 squat! way to show em whose boss.

and screw the fuctards that complain about your grunting.

I’ve been experimenting on grip width for my bench too.

Today’s GPP

Farmer’s Walks

14 300ft laps done consecutively 30lbs/hand, followed by 2.5 mile walk.

320 - NOYCE!!!

congrats on the PR. That’s a lot of squats. Very nice.

Joe, damn…it has been a dark age since I’ve been here.
Lifts are looking great. Moving up on deads, squats AND bench. The wider grip can be a good thing. Just be mindful of the shoulders. Hopefully you are one of those who can do it with no issues.

Hope the testing came out well.

Thanks

Strick, my old grip was so narrow that it seems like I’m just moving my grip out to where most of you are already at. I’m doing shoulder stuff just in case though.

The Fall semester began today so the gym ws crowded and I had to fight for equipment. It should also be noted I need a gym with a bunch of fat old bald men and not one full of half dressed coeds.

Sorry I’m a little late. Your first bench grip is what I consider a close-grip and what I use as accessory work to my bench. Even your second grip isn’t that wide. It’s right where I am right now. Just make sure to tuck on the descent.

Way to go on the 320 squat, PR’s should always be celebrated!

Your initial bench grip seemed really narow - my regular grip is a little wider than your new one. I always line up my middle finger to the O ring - always have.

I got to thinking that since you’re the dip king, you’re probably very strong with that super narrow grip, engaging the triceps. But most competitive lifters try to go wide to minimize the stroke distance.

I think thats most likely true. My weight with the wider grip is almost to where it was with the narrower grip and I’m thinking that it should move up faster now. Well I’m hoping it will. I’m going to try and PR with the new grip at World’s all the same.

Everything was just a little off. Set up on money set and singles was poor and if I had sat back on 405 it would have come up. Live and learn.

Some really good numbers Joe. Good job.

I’m probably another 3/4 fist wider than your wide grip.

Oh, and I’ll trade you gyms. You really should get away from those distracting coeds.

One month until SPF/WBPLA World’s and I’m trying to figure out what numbers I’m going to shoot for. So far it looks like I’ll be good on weight as long as I don’t go pancake mad.

Starting to get excited about it.

Half-dressed coeds? Pictures or it didn’t happen.

And…dat ass…for good measure.

P.S. You going to Worlds just makes me really happy.

Another contest so soon? Go for it. Do you think you’ll post higher weights than before?

Joe, yes I should be at worlds, are you lifting Sat or Sun? Unfortunately my shoulder prob still won’t be ready to strangle your knees though. My son may be able to help if you need it- if he’s not working.

Hey Joe, belt came in the mail today. It’s fantastic and I cannot thank you enough!
