Both your 245 bench and 375 DL looked smooth and easy, nice job.
My best to your family.

Ooh, Stacy and I will cheer that while Joe is lifting at his meet ![]()
Definitely don’t start another cycle at this point. I’m usually doing heavy doubles and singles at a month out. I still train each lift on a different day, though. Definitely get those openers dialed in.
Nice work, Joe. 245# looked great.
x100 what was said about leg drive. You get that down and the difference it will make will shock you. It is definitely worth the time and effort.
Also, sorry to hear about the COPD. My mom is in the same boat.
Okay thanks guys I think I’ve got a tentative plan.
60 day challenge

Joe, good luck with your meet. I’ve only done one so far, but I took everyone’s advice and it worked fine. I did my max (275 DL) about 10 days before the meet. Spent the next week in deload, very light but hi volume. DL’d a couple more times, but at half weight (135) over and over to get form perfect. Ate, ate, ate. No workout a day or two before. If you’re worried about weighing in a certain amount, weigh in the night before, then EAT EAT EAT!
The day of the meet, I felt strong as a bull. Selected openers I knew would have no trouble with. Did 275 just fine, in fact, could have done a bit more. Couldn’t believe what a rush it was to get whites.

Shitty spotter aside, you got that shit easy bro, you looked pissed the fuck off, for a quick moment I thought you had your fists clenched and you were gonna get ready to deck the kid!
That looked incredibly easy!

What is so fucking hard about “don’t touch the fucking bar unless it is obviously descending”? Pauses are not descents. Sticking points are not descents. Don’t touch it! Leave it the hell alone! Don’t even act like you are going to touch it! It is a mindfuck! Argh!
I was pissed off for you.
But nice strong rep. Great job!
Thanks everybody, and I have to admit I was pretty pissed off but then I noticed he didn’t bench more than 115 and I think he might have been worried that he couldn’t lift the weight off of me.

That’s what I was going to offer. At my last gym a monstrous Brit asked me to spot him on a 365 lb bench press, I was mentally freaking out because if he failed I don’t think I could have done anything other than keep it from crushing his sternum while he got the hell out from under it.

^ Pure AWESOMENESS
Could you not bench in a cage Joe so you don’t have to put up with crappy spotters?

Reminds me of when I was just starting and some guy asked me to spot him on a 495 (5pl’s a side) and the guy I trained with (much bigger) asked him if he wanted me to call 911 directly or just have the front desk do it (since I would’ve been useless spotting that weight).

We don’t have actual cages, we have the things I squat in and its really hard to get a set up that lets you hit your chest and still have safeties.
