2010-2011 NBA Season 2.0

Lakers-Bulls Finals if you ask me. The Lakers are heating up at the right time and I can see them beating pretty much any team in the West including the Spurs. The team that I think could give them a big challenge more than any one else is OKC, and they might not get to face LA if the SAS eliminates them.

I’d go ahead and say the Lakers are taking it

Don’t let Getnitdone see this. He’s been convincing himself that this is not possible. It’s Miami all the way baby!

So I saw the fab 5 doc yesterday. I wish to retract my comments. Seeing where Rose is coming from I totally get it now. I actually give the fab 5 credit for calling Laetner and Hill a bitch and then being impressed with their play. I still am good with Hill’s retort however. I was very interested to see how webber was portrayed, basically he wanted so bad to have a tough guy persona but really wasnâ??tâ?¦

I’d go ahead and say the Lakers are taking it, but I don’t know how good the Bulls really are. They’re not as battle-tested but they don’t seem like the kind of team that gives up. Originally, I had the Celts as the East favourites, but they’ve played pretty bad lately. And while that was the case last year, they’ve lost some key players that helped them majorly with the intangibles [especially Perkins] and replaced them with injury prone and/or old guys.

I look foreword to a Chicago-OKC rivalry in the next few years after the Lakers, Spurs, and Celts age out of contending. Rose vs. Durant. EDIT: I suppose Miami and NY could find it’s way into this conversation, but I don’t know if they’ll have the money or even opportunities to fix their imbalances after the new CBA. NY has a better shot of achieving this IMO.
I’ve read Miami might be able to sign a legit role player or two this offseason (depending on new CBA of course).

I think with Perkins, OKC is LA’s biggest roadblock in the West. Ibaka/Perk is a LEGIT frontcourt defensive combo and can match up with Gasol/Bynum. That being said, the Lakers will go wherever Bynum takes them. If he can stay healthy the rest of the season and 4 consecutive playoff series (no small task for him), they’ll be in the Finals with a shot to win.

As much as I like the Bulls (and the Thibodeau coach of the year bet I made with 60:1 odds… can you say VEGAS after COY is announced?), you’re right that we don’t know how they’ll act as a team yet in the face of adversity. The road to the East still goes through BOS, though homecourt advantage helps a ton.

One thing I see from the Bulls: They really, REALLY want it.
Agreed on Bynum being key player for the Lakers. In last years Finals when he was on the court Boston’s big men couldn’t contain Gasol, when he wasn’t there they handled him. I imagine he’ll be important in the same way if they face a team like OKC–not so much statistically but intangibly.

I think this summer is Miami’s best bet to improve their weaknesses, after that the salaries of their big 3 will get in the way. I know it’s easy to get around the cap if you have players already under contract making it go over, but it is hard to sign new guys once your over the cap. They’d have to trade, and they don’t have much outside their big 3 or draft picks. It’s tough to say what’ll happen to them.

It’s too late man, unless you figure out a magical way to edit posts those comments will be up there forever.

I wonder how much Kemba Walker’s draft stock is rising based on his recent run(Big East and NCAA tournies), kid has been tearing up everyone he plays(SDSU supposed to have the best on ball defenders in the nation and he torched them hard). Derrick Williams for Arizona has looked amazing too. Not sure who I want the Cavs to take with our #1 when we get it…
It shouldn’t be rising all that much. The college game (and tourney esp) has been all about guard play for many, many years now…

LarryDavid - the wiseguys in vegas agree with your CHI-LAL Finals pick. Also think it’s great how the race for homecourt is so nip-tuck right now. Almost like playoff games have started early.

Matty - Agreed, G Hill def kept it classy.

I hate to admit it, but when healthy and motivated the Lakers are the best team in the league.

Randman, much like my cousin, you know everything and anything Lakers. How long before Kobe starts really going down hill? And how many championship years does your team have left? I’m thinking this year and next year.

OKC will get by the Lakers in 2 years.

Stats wise 'bron 'bron makes a good case to repeat as MVP.

Just sayin’

Obviously he lost his media darling status.

ehhh, I agree on the stats, but it’s not enough for him to be a contender.

 1. Derrick Rose
 2. Dwight Howard
 3. Kobe Bryant [yup]
 4. after this…Durant, LeBron, Dirk. The Spurs and Celts don’t have an undisputed #1 IMO, so no candidates from there.

Really should be Dwight.

Rose has a much better players surrounding him.

The problem with the MVP voting is it’s as much a popularity contest as it is about being the most valuable player. I like Derrick Rose but he is a god awful defender, and while he’s clearly the best player on the Bulls [and they’re kicking ass] that team would be good if Watson started. I don’t really like Howard and think he benefits more than anyone else in playing in a league with no centers, but he is definitely more important to his teams success. With that, I’d like to see Bryant get it 'cause he should have at least 3 more in his trophy room and the league needs to make ammends.

Well if you look at Ray Allen he is 35 years old and he is still going strong although Kobe has more miles on his legs at the 32.

I don’t think you will see a drastic drop-off with him honestly sans serious injury. He is a very smart player that keeps adjusting his game as he ages. I think he’ll be scoring 20+ plus points for at least another 3 or 4 seasons.

I think this team could compete for the championship for the next 1 or 2 years after this one. Honestly. I think Bynum is only going to get better. Yes, this team is aging but everyone has been writing off the Celtics for the last 2 years due to age and look at them.

Most people will not agree with my opinion that aren’t Lakers fans in particular.

Derrick Rose WILL win the MVP this year. It is part popularity contest along with actual performance. They also don’t like to give one player an MVP multiple years in a row. It’s as much a subjective award as objective award.

Bynum will get better, but his injuries will prevent him from reaching his full potential. But you did win without him playing great in the playoffs the past 2 years.
I really think Lakers win title this year and Finals appearance again next year.
And I do hate, but respect your team.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Portland make it past the 1st round. As a Mav’s fan, they are giving me a headache lol.

Damn Hornets lose David West.

That’s a BIG loss for NO

I think a lot of people might be surprised regarding Bynum and his injuries. It is still very possible that both of those knee injuries were flukes and there is nothing structurally wrong with them. Obviously we need to see where this plays out over the next couple of years but so far this has been the best and the longest he’s played at this level. If he does go through the entire playoffs like this it starts to make my hypothesis look valid [I hope I just didn’t jinx anything ;0]

Grant Hill is another one that experienced severe injuries in the middle of his career (instead of the beginning like Bynum) and he bounced back after 4 seasons and he’s playing well into his late 30s now. That guy amazes me.

Being a Golden State Warrior fan (sad, I know) I remember in the 2005 draft I wanted Andrew Bynum or Danny Granger (I hated Mike Dunleavy). But looking at it now, Bynum would not be the player he is now without Kobe Bryant as a teammate.

^No doubt. He’s learning what it takes to be a champion, how to work hard, how to play through injuries, how to take care of his body now so he can play for many years in the league, etc. Kobe has had a huge influence on him.
