Where’d you get that? Sometimes people say the dumbest shit.
Like you if you think that statement is false. To think that statistically no human could ever possess similar physical characteristics and advantages that, with the right guidance, could lead to them being as good as a “Michael Jordan” is to completely ignore genetics and the fact that there are billions of us on this planet. Michael Jordan was/is one of the greats not just because of what he was born with physically but also his mental state, his environment and his determination. In fact, some might say the determination was the most important factor.
The dumbest shit?
I see what you’re saying, but you gotta understand that Jordan was an anomaly. And, the one thing that matters in sports more than anything else is winning, and if someone were to possess that level of game they wouldbe found and given every oppertunity to succeed. Shit, I was given several oppertunities to dosomething with basketball and I definitely wasn’t “better than Jordan”. The cream rises to the top man. Are there guys with major game that for whatever reason didn’t make it? Absoulutely. Are there guys out there that could’ve been All-Stars if given the right situation. It’s possible. Is there someone out there that could’ve been the single greatest basketball player ever that slipped through the cracks? Statistically, probably, but in reality no. There’s a reason these dudes are where they are.

An interesting tidbit regarding Bynum. I was listening to the Mason & Ireland 710 AM radio show a couple of days ago and they had a caller call in and remind them that they did a show about a week ago in Santa Monica where they were setting up to interview Bynum. They had a caller call in and they set him up by saying “if Bynum was here right now, what would you say to him?”.
The caller started ripping into Bynum calling him out and questioning why he wasn’t rebounding like a true 7 footer. When Mason & Ireland told the caller that Bynum was listening, the caller kept going! He said that they should’ve traded Bynum for Anthony, blah, blah, blah.
Well since that time, Bynum has averaged over double digits in rebounds. Coincidence?
if the rant of some random no name phone call guy is what it took to get bynum to play better… then he really is a pussy. lol
I always just thought Bynum played soft. I’m sure he’s been yelled at more than once by Kobe for playing like a bitch down low most of the time… why would that caller be what fired him up?
I think it could have to do with him feeling healthier. I mean he hasnt played thaaaat many minutes so far this season. Maybe his kinda hitting his stride right now, ya know? He’s been injury plagued his entire career… maybe he’s finally feeling healthy
I just thought it was funny. It was more of a tongue-in-cheek type of post. I’m with you on the real reason Bynum is making his presence felt down low now. It’s because this IS the healthiest he has been. No doubt about it. His mobility down low is much more fluid.
I hope his two knee injuries were total flukes. If this is the case, threepeat is very much a real possibility this year. He impacts the Lakers on both ends of the floor that much.
The only situation where I think an ‘all-time greatest’ might actually slip through the cracks would be murder/jail. In the other situations(bad environment type shit) a person will still get discovered and given some opportunity, and at that point if they didn’t take it/make it they clearly weren’t going to be MJ.
There have been numerous ‘what-if’ scenarios of kids getting shot because they had SERIOUS skills, or kids making bad decisions and landing themselves in jail where the skills they had rotted and they lost any chance at fulfilling potential greatness. I’m sure anyone on these boards who pays attention to local sports can list off stories, this football player we had when I was in high school was Mr. Football Ohio(behind Texas I’d put football in that pack of states just behind when it comes to football talent), as a Sophomore. Then he got rung up for assistance to murder because he was with a friend who shot someone they were trying to rob, probably still in jail now.
There was that story that got really big because ESPN got involved a few years ago about the Georgia kid who was in jail because of a 100 year old law where getting head from his girlfriend was considered statutory rape, but actually having sex with her was legal. Supposedly he was the greatest player everyone in that state had ever seen(they had this one dude you may have heard of, Herschel Walker, come from there).
Stories like that I could see actually making this a possibility, there are surely countless athletes who get their opportunity stolen from them completely by choice or the impact of others choices around them. But anyone who is playing at Rutgers park claiming they could be the next MJ but lived in the wrong place wrong time is full of it.
I can’t believe Bosh is bitching about his role. I mean he was probably the worst free agent out there that Lebron and Wade could team up with. If they got a strong big man like Amare, they would be playing a lot better than they are now.
Yo randman thanks for those recommendations I’ll def check em out and give em a pop in the dvd. Appreciate you looking out bro. It’s alright to be jealous at 'Bron though, what emotion is there for a fellow man watching another man who’s got it all?
Awesome Knick game yesterday, they almost choked blowing a 17 point lead. However I saw it coming as they were shooting lights out for most of the game. It has to be noted that the knicks are 3-1 since billups has been out…I firmly believe that game wouldnt have been that close if he had played.
Melo and Stat have been playing seamless offensively, both are getting shots. Ironically the knicks have been playing better D since Melos arrival. Jeffries looked like Charles Smith last night getting his shot blocked twice from point blank range…while he does play good D he is such a liability on the offensive end, and getting and PLAYING him is a complete sham as some of the reasoning in releasing Brewer was because of his lack of offensive abilities…Jeffries may be the worst offensive player in the league.
Tony Allen is awesome and would love for him to be on my squad.

My girl is a New Yorker and its her birthday today. She (and I) are pulling for the Knicks to beat the Mavs tonight (would definitely help the Lakers here), the Lakers to beat da Heat, and for St. Johns to play like men and win today resoundingly to put that ugly 2 minutes of the game behind them last night and quiet the deserved controversy.
my god, that was awful, those ref’s should issue an apology at the very least. Im not confident in the knicks beating the mavs tonight, I think the mavs are gonna play real pissed off after that loss yesterday.

Didn’t see the game live but the replays showed maybe the worst officiating since the Mavs lost to the Heat in the Finals. You gotta feel for the Rutgers team. That game was stolen from them, and stolen several times.

that was pretty “turrible”… Who knows if Rutgers would have been able to tie it up/win or not but they should have had the chance.
Why couldnt they go to replay? Do they not have replay at the end of games in college ball?

Was watching some ESPN show this morning and they had their collge ball expert on. He said that since no call was made there was no call to review, and that the Big East [maybe college ball in general, didn’t catch that] doesn’t employ refs, they’re independent contractors. So with that there’s no way to reprimand them. But, he said he thinks will be a stepping stone for college ball to go the college football route where there’s a dude in the sky box away from the floor who can go to the monitor and review everything away from the “chaos” and send the review down. Those refs blew 3 pretty blatant calls in the final couple of minutes. That was awful.

Yeah, trying to decide what the biggest stretch is…the Knicks beating the Mavs or St. John’s beating the Orangemen.
