I have been called out before from being a Celts fan up until my 20s, getting away from basketball when I moved to SoCal, and then eventually becoming a Lakers fan.
Although I’ve typed it out all the reasons before I don’t even think I really reflected on the “power” of one reason. A player that you are just mesmerized by what he does on the floor. For me, that was Kobe coming out of high school. All of a sudden in 3 or 4 years I had the holy shit/wtf moment when I couldn’t believe I actually became a Lakers fan. Some will still skewer me and I don’t care.
Well the reason I typed this out because I just saw an article on Blake Griffin on the front page on ESPN and I was immediately struck with the same feeling about this guy. To me, he’s that transcendent when he’s on the floor. I’m such a fan of this guy I told myself if I’m not careful I could actually start rooting for the Clippers! And then I come back to reality and realize the team is still owned by Donald Sterling and which will prevent that proverbial line-crossing from ever occurring ;0
But a huge Blake Griffin fan I remain.

that’s why I’m a bulls fan (watching Jordan when I first started loving bball)
And that’s why I splurged for lower level seats for Clips-Wiz in 3 weeks.
And that’s why I think 20yrs from now, no one will really care about the decision. People LOVE watching greatness. They root for it. Saying “I was there to see xxx moment/player” is something we all want.
I couldn’t agree more. You don’t see “greatness” often and when you know it’s starting to happen you must soak it in and appreciate it when it does happen.
So it looks like a 'Melo deal is in place, just requires 'Melo’s approval:
The Nets and Nuggets have agreed to the framework of a deal that centres around Anthony heading to the New Jersey, along with Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams, Melvin Ely and Renaldo Balkman. In exchange, the Nuggets would receive Devin Harris, Derrick Favours, Troy Murphy, Ben Uzoh and four first-round draft picks.
However, the trade is still contingent on Anthony agreeing to the deal - primarily on Anthony signing a $65 million contract extension, as no team would be willing to give up their assets without the guarantee of keeping Anthony long term.

I don’t know why the hell Anthony would do this. I’ve changed my mind from an earlier post regarding the Nets ownership being compelling. I still think Prokohorov is compelling but Anthony would be wasting 2 to 3 years of his prime at least while they try to build a team around him.
I just read a competing report that this is bogus. I think the Nuggets are trying, unsuccessfully, to get NY to sweeten the pot. I don’t think it’s going to work.

This is retarded. The Nets had an offer two months ago that the Nugs would’ve taken. Melo was the sticking point, not the offer itself. He does NOT want to play in New Jersey on a team that has no other pieces. He can do that in Denver with a better team.
How is Chauncey/Melo/Lopez better than Chauncey/Melo/Nene? Not to mention there are no JR Smiths or Chris Andersens on NJ’s roster.
Maybe 'Melo’s main priority is going home, not winning a championship
I thought Melo grew up in Baltimore…?

Born in Brooklyn,NY
With regards to this Melo…drama
I dont see billups being an upgrade over felton at this point. First, obviously he is 34, second he doesent want to be here and has been quoted as wanting to make his way over to the Heat, third he is an awful fit for Dantonis offense. This is the part of the trade that hurts the most for me if it goes down. Chandler was a give in, it doesent bother me in losing him because at this point he was coming back. With Gallinari, I can accept as you have to give something to get something. Gallo Chandler and a No1 was my limitâ?¦The felton addition is what bothers meâ?¦I know the knicks want a shot at CP3 (knee issues) and Williams (not a NY kinda guy) I would much rather have Felton Anthony and Amare as our version of the big three.
Sooo if this trade does go downâ?¦maybe we should dust off Roger mason and make him a vital part of an already weak bench
Yeah, I feel you. I’m starting to feel the same way about Derrick Rose. Great talent, he’s made a big improvement every off season, he’s okay with being under pressure and he wants to be the man not only on his team but in the league. I was never a Bulls fan, and don’t really see the need to root for them…except for the fact that Rose seems like a future all-time great, and I want to get behind HIS success, and therefore I’m starting to root for the Bulls.
Wow that was a great dunk contest… except the final round.
Last 2 dunks of the night were definitely the worst. Chuck had it right on Blake’s last one especially, that was just an average/meh dunk with a bunch of presentation and flare, but he went over the hood of the car not the top like I expected. I was somewhat on edge thinking BD was just going to throw the ball up through the roof, and that Blake would have to clear the thick part of the vehicle which would’ve been pretty fucking impressive.
In fact, Blake’s first dunk was eh as well… the first time he ran through it he did a lot more with his hands(brought the ball like way down to his waist during the 360), but then when he made it, it was way more ‘Statue of Liberty’ with the ball staying pretty high.
Still, as a whole, the contest was solid, best 1st round there has been in a long ass time(literally no throw away dunks of the first 8, even if a few took a lot of attempts to make).
Dude that was one of the best dunk contests I can remember in recent memory. I can’t believe your dissing Blake’s first dunk. It was a freakin 360 dunk with massive power for goodness sakes. There were a lot of memorable dunks. Javal McGee’s dunks were all sick except the last one. I almost think he should have won. And I don’t understand how the judges scored Derozan’s first dunk a 45 or something and Ibaka jumps with his toe on the foul line and only gets a 46?!?! Are you kidding me. Not even Jordan or Dr. J jumped from that far back. Both of them had their foot a little over the foul line. Anyways, all in all a really entertaining dunk contest.
ha I was telling you guys last year in a thread I created after that horrible dunk contest that they were going to start incorporating cars. I too was expecting Griffin to clear the top of the car but after he cleared the hood it became evident there’s no way he could jump over it like that.
DeRozen’s showtime dunk and McGee’s first dunk were the best dunks of the contest. Ibaka should have received a 50 for his free throw dunk but he shouldn’t have advanced anyway because there’s nothing much more he could have done. Same goes for McGee and you saw it, I was really hoping for DeRozen to get into the Final with Griffin.
It should also be noted all the dunks that were shown have been done before save McGee’s first dunk and the 3 ball dunk. Check out James White on youtube windmilling it from the free throw line and other people jumping over cars.
Still a very impressive contest, one of the best in recent memory.
Everytime i see these over-the-car-dunks i need to post this link:
Yeah, it wasn’t an alley-oop dunk but it was at least over the roof. Don’t know why Griffin chose such a high car. He could have just picked a lower car, jumped over the roof and it would be much better.

I agree with all of this.
I’d also like to add that part of the reason Blake won over McGee is aesthetics. Yeah, overall McGee’s dunks were more impressive in terms of difficulty but Blake’s dunks LOOKED better. Aesthetics are harder to describe but it’s still important that your dunks are visually appealing, and the three ball dunk didn’t look that pretty.
And yeah Derozan got SCREWED. No fair. Through the legs of a lob from behind the backboard? That only gets a 45?
