2008 Olympia

what happened to kai? his routines are very entertaining and he’s got a collection of freaky parts.

Victor is in?

Dexter is shooting for 5-7 lbs heavier than he was at the Arnold Classic.

if he’s on and cutler is carrying water, dexter wins.

can’t wait to to see heath, not crazy about Wolf.

So Lee Priest is back in the IFBB, but won’t be competing in the “O” until 2009 right?

He will have to compete in a qualifying show first.[/quote]

im so happy lee priest is coming back, i love watching his old comps of him when he was young and pro at like 21, fucking crazy pshyique. At his size he just looks so dam big

Alright admittedly “streets ahead” wasn’t the perfect phrase to use. I was more refering to the general bias towards past champions.

Priest is something of a character and whether you agree with the attitude (face tattoo’s and the like) i’d be very interested to see how he turns out on stage.

Quincy Taylor was in Planet of the Apes(the newer one obviously). Lou Ferrigno was of course on TV with The Incredible Hulk and King of Queens(lol)… made a cameo in on of the newer Hulk movies.

After that I’m sort of drawing a blank but I’m sure X would remember a few more.

You had several NPC super-heavyweights acting as bodyguards in Be Cool (there seems to be massive hate for this movie). Dave Draper was on two episodes of Beverly Hill-Billies (but that was like, mid last century).

The one who has the most potential in my opinion is:

Roland Kickinger

Bob CHickirillo was in DOdgeball (non speaking role for about half a second-lol).

Didn’t Dexter say tht he was done after this year? If that’s true, and Jay retires,… we’re gonna have to move up a whole lot of the newer blood the next few years.

Damn shame bout Branch though, he was primed to do some real damage this year. Still, I gotta laugh at the cause of his injury. I never hurt myself in the gym, but usually doing something totally stupid in my everyday life, so I f-cking feel for him.

S

Ralf Moeller, participated in the Olympia and had a pretty big role in Gladiator (with russell crowe).

its always that way, I REPEAT DEXTER JACKSON WONT RETIRE IF HE LOSES, if he does(unless cause of injury) in the next year or two I WILL LEAVE THIS SITE FOR EVER, NOT EVEN READING ARTICLES. he said in the bodybuilding.com interviews that was a rumour.

BTW anyone watcht he denis wolfe interview and left fucking pissed cause he was wearing a “baggy” t shirt?

Do you know him personally or something? You’re pretty serious about that…lol

Sure, there have been a lot of whiny BBers who said that if they didn’t win a certain show, that they would retire, yet never followed through on their vow (shawn ray every year -lol), but Dex has 3 Arnold Titles under his belt, it’s not like he turned pro, and never made a big payday. I’ve got to honestly think that he’s made a great living for himself and his family, despite not being crowned Mr. Olympia. Most of the top 10 guys who deal well with endorsements, and guest posing probably do quite well.

(I’m sure someone will mention how much $ they spend on drugs and such, but still I’ve seen a lot of pros living in nice houses, and driving nice cars)

true that, but I’d never put all my eggs in the bodybuilding basket when it comes to income. lol

I saw a video, maybe the olympia series on bb.com where dexter straight up said they are rumors and he plans to compete in the future. lol

yea it was the olympia series because i saw it too haha

About that bodybuilding and living large stuff… the top 5-8 guys might be but like DG said, hopefully guys aren’t banking on it and have no backup plan.

I hope everyone saw the MD video with Kai where he was living in the GHETTO even though he’s one of the better bodybuilders on the planet right now. Guys like Dugdale, Fankhouser, Henry and I’m sure others have the right idea… bodybuild but have other skills or business ventures to fall back onto. Not everyone is going to get pay days like Ronnie and Jay are/were consistently via big time contracts and 100,000 dollar checks.

Well Jay’s smart enough to set himself up real estate wise. Arnold did the same thing when he was first starting out (he owns a ton of property in Santa Monica). Even if Jay never won an Olympia, he’s played his career as a smart businessman, and I’m sure others have taken his lead.

S

Yeah Jay is very smart and he’s taking Phil Heath under his wing, it’s those guys who aren’t getting the big contracts like Jay who are hoping bodybuilding is going to support them their whole life that worry me sometimes. Worse yet is the guys who aren’t even pros yet who think “Man when I get my card it’ll all change” lol

I don’t think any of these guys want to be like a former Olympia contender who charges people for photographs and autographs at shows.

Scott you talking about a certain 6’4 individual who used to paint himself green by any chance…

I just wish that there were more training series around. I wrote this in another thread but i really enjoyed the fit show for the most part. Bob Chicerello did a good job and i’m sure many people would love to watch a more advanced 30 or 40mins programme on a regular basis with the big guys training, maybe incorporating powerlifting and other types of weight training related sports like athletics??

I dunno if anyone saw American Choppers one time when the Dad was going to the gym and benching 4 plates each side no problem. Everyone loves to know what these characters bench, squat etc…

It’s intersting the way Lou gets bashed. I always read how he’s such a cash whore that it’s disrespectful to the fans to charge to even TAKE a pic with him. BUt in all honesty, I don’t think he has as much dough as most people think.

Unless I’m way off my mark, I don’t think TV shows were paying syndication/rerun rates back then. And in all honesty, do you really think they paid some unknown to the public, bodybuilder, who couldn’t really have any speaking roles (not an insult, but the guy has 2 hearing aids) any real money? And even when we see him have an occassional cameo in a film, it’s only for a couple of seconds, he’s not walking away with 6 figures for that (does he really put poeple in the theater seats? -lol). Pumping Iron? I’m sure no one in that movie was really paid anything, even Arnold if you think about when they shot it… he was a no one to the rest of the world.

I think the only real paydays Lou has gotten from his “acting” is on King Of Queens. The shows done really well (I know its been on a few years now), and Kevin James is big fan, so getting the producers to pay Lou a real actor’s salary is probably the best thing happening for him (and nowadays, they have a system for repays as the show reruns on several different cable channels).

Truly sad if you think about it.

S

what job do you guys think best goes with bodybuilding. Like if you could have one job to work at while you were a bodybuilder what would you want it to me. I have a friend and hes an npc competitios and hes a teacher and not only dos he get out at like 2-3 o clock but he gets summers off. Not to bad and gives you alot of time to concentrate on bb
