20 Reps Squat Challenge

Well done and very nice and motivating edit. This vid awakes the urge in me to go to the gym and hit 20reps with a decent weight. I am stuck right now in the middle of my 20rep squat program. Today I just did 115lbs, but I know there is more in me, because a couple months ago I did 25x135 and my max is 6x220.

Do you guys think 200pouns is a reasonable weight for me to attempt? (I am planning to add 15lbs each week till I get there^^)

That’s insane! I was literally saying ‘damn!’ after every rep past #10.

That shit was AWESOME!!!

Stallion, way to go my man…way to go! Your a friggin animal with it. I could almost feel that pain in your lungs and quads right after number 7. Well done my friend!

Next week, I will do it with 275lb’s

145lbs???

looked really easy, also put it to the side so we can see the depth. Anyways nice job, try some heavier weight.

Well done! That sets you apart from most of the people on this forum, yes also from most of the people in this thread. Will you try with bigger weight later? Or are you satisfied to have done this?
Well I will probably do it again, after I have done the V-Diet (there is method in this madness), I will probably keep it at the same weight till I crack it. It looks like I am missing parallel by maybe about 1/2 inch or so maximum so there is potential. I will probably add it to my tape measures of progress (from that article).

Next year kind of goes

V-Diet (6 weeks)
5x5 (4 weeks, complex compounds due to home gyming)
5x5 (10 weeks, stronglifts program)
Beast Building (3 months, CTs’ program)
5x5 (10 weeks, advanced stronglifts program depending)
V-Diet TBC (6 weeks, depending on how my body is)

= 53 weeks, but incl is 1 week off after each session except the 4 week 5x5.

The rest week will be a bit of low cardio then the tape measures of progress tests, weight test and measuring.

/hijack

Apologies

This is probably the best 20 rep squat video I’ve seen, amazing battle that looked brutal! Amazing willpower I didn’t think you were going to make it.
It does not look like I am going to make it when I watch the video myself. But I do, and it did hurt! Thank for the compliment!

Well, if I could not do it, then I would have to go back tomorrow to try, I did not want that! I am not sure at all if I could have done another rep in this brutal set. I am afraid that it could have been total failure. It was very painful this set, and I was very proud I made it through.

Thank you very much for the compliment, very much appreciated. How do you do, any more squatting for you my friend?

I really want to do 20 rep squat with front squat-with 65% of max-, my shoulders can hold the weight well with high reps I feel. But I’m still in the middle of smolov not sure if i want to try it, but I might go for it this Friday since I still have one more week and two weekends till intense cycle.

Try a high bar placement, that often feels better for the shoulder and arms. Also make sure not to be too tight in the upper body. Medium tight grip I recommend.

I had a feeling that the depth was going to be a bit iffy when I looked at the video. Considering that I did 11 on Monday to get to 20 e was probably due to not going to deep albeit unconsciously, although no excuse!

Probably would have got out more of it if I had swallowed my ego and gone to 87.5kg.
Try to choose a weight that you can make proper depth with.

Well, I think you should choose the weight yourself. Remember there is more in you than you think. Just keep on hammering out those reps untill the body collapse. Make sure you have spotters or some kind of security measurements. Of course it gives mad extra points with no spotter, but if you do not feel safe without, then get into a powerrack or get some spotter. If you can do 14-15 reps with a weight, it is possible to do 20 with that weight. It is all about using your willpower.

Thank you! Yes, it was very hard. I am not sure if I would be physically able to do another rep, as the last rep of 20 was very very hard, I would probably failed badly if trying for another rep. I wasn’t sure that I would hit the last rep, but 19 reps would be some kind of defeat, and 20 reps was the goal, so I went for it, and I succeded. With the squat, you most often can make the lift If you only put every fibre of your being into making it!

djwhizkid: You show good sportmanship by posting a video. High rep squatting is very hard as you have felt yourself. However, we would like a sideview of the squatting, and how many reps was it? Was it 14? Well, still showing some balls to post up a video, but check out the rules for the competition, and try to follow them! Good luck in future attempts!

echelon101: Seems like you have everything planned out. Keep busting your ass, and remember, you can always do more than you think!

I was just notified by a friend that I only accomplished 19 reps on my video! Sonofabitch that sucks, but what are you gonna do! I was off on my count obviously and didn’t mean to post a falsie up there.

I will rectify it next week with a true 20+1 rep.

Brutal…your a beast…congrats!!

Stallion, you did more work in that video than I do in a whole week of squatting. Awesome!

That is fucking motivating!
DickBag wrote:
my previous best was 140 kgs for 18 reps.

my best 160 kgs squat was for 8 reps i think. this was AGES ago though. so i think i should have 160 for 20 if i try hard enough.

i couldnt be bothered though! if it werent for this thread that is

damn ego wont let me chill

We’re so doing it

doing below parallel box squats count?

Box squats below parallel would also be really hard, so that’s okay with me.

Thank you for all your kind words comrades!

I even made my girlfriend do the challenge, only with 50kg, but it was her 3rd or 4th workout. She refuses to be filmed tough.

50kg x 20 is good for a girl that just started out.

Here’s my submission to join the club. 245lbs x 20reps (+1 because I can’t count…or by buddy can’t).

Great work to everyone so far for gritting it out, and serious props to Stallion for 167.5 x20.

One thing that has amazed me tho is how nearly everyone that has posted a video so far isn’t getting below parallel. I think 2 out of the 7 videos have squats that would pass in a powerlifting competition. I was genuinely surprised to see it!! Not raggin’ on anyone, just making an observation.

All the cool kids squat high.

Weel, it is a sad state of affairs really. There are a lot of lifters that are stronger than me. But I suspect they are not frequenting this forum. Also having a 20-rep squat challenge in the strength forum is perhaps not the right place? Maybe those who are very concerned with strength, don’t do much high rep work?

Jesse Marunde did 180kg x 20 in the squat. He is dead now unfortunately, but there is a goal for me to beat that one day.

I think it is good sportmanship of everyone that has posted videos and accepting this challenge, however, you have seen what I think is a good 20-rep set…

And all the super cool kids 1/8 quarter-squat.

I’ve never watched myself squat before, I think I’ve got decent depth and technique, but I’d appreciate any advice from the more experienced posters here.
